What are your travel plans for 2012?
Where are you going and how are you getting there? What are the sights you'll see?
We are potentially planning a trip to Portland and Seattle. We were in Portland a few years ago and even though it rained almost every day of the trip, we had a wonderful time. We loved all the waterfalls along the Columbia River, the Rose Garden in Portland and visiting the coast.
We haven't been to Seattle for about 30 years but I understand Emmett Watson's is still going strong.
Never mind where the primitives plan to go; they're talking hot air as usual, just like when they plan to leave the United States and live in another (whiter) country.

4. I blew my travel wad in 2011!
Only planned trips are around the Channel Islands, which we do whenever we have a good window.
Thanks for starting this thread. I am interested in what people plan to do.

6. Where are the Channel Islands?
Off the coast of LA? Do you sail or motor?

7. Of the coast of Southern California.
We sail. Most of the island are essentially uninhabited and require a permit from the Nature Conservancy to even go onto the land at all.
They are stunning in their undisturbed naturalness and they attract only like-minded people who are able to live completely off the grid.
The only one that is available to your average tourist is Santa Catalina, but it is beautiful in it's own right.

14. I hate heeling! Fortunately I know exactly what to do to make the boat sit down.
We live on a 43 foot sailboat. Big, heavy and makes a beautiful home.
There is a lot less worry about upkeep when you live on the boat, as you are using everything constantly and tend to address problems early. The sailing part is just a plus, as we move around a lot.
I am not a big fan of the daysailer. Too small, too light, too much heeling.
There are lots of boats out here available for charter, so if you ever get the itch again, I recommend the Channel Islands.

DUmmy wileynumbers planned to sail his boat from Ohio to Southern California.
Honest.
At some point after embarkation, he ran aground and died.
Another dead DUmmy a-moulderin' in the grave.

So, when they need to DUmp the holding tank, we know where they go..... and foul the pristine channel islands.

Living on a sailboat? Is that kind of 1%-ish or is that 'normal' in Southern California?

If the marinas in SoCal are anything like the ones in Homer, it's more like Sanford and Son than Diff'rent Strokes.

Before he moved into federal prison, the democrat crook/crackpot congressman Jim Traficant was living on a boat in DC.

The marinas out here are very nice...and expensive. Sucks to know that there are so many DUmpmonkeys in my area. When I was growing up the Channel Islands (which are mostly due south of Santa Barbara) were open and were working ranches. You could go ashore and hike around wherever you wanted. Then the environmentals got a hold of them and you can't. Just more liberty and freedom lost to the zealotry. The east side of Santa Cruz is controlled by the parks department and you can camp and hike out there. When that was in private hands I used to mountain bike out there. One time we got near the barbed wire fence that the Nature Conservancy put around their property and got shot at.
BTW, while normal citizens cannot go and appreciate the Nature Conservancy's land, if you give them a big enough donation you can go out there anytime. More proof that Liberalism is nothing more than eliminating the middle class of America.

Difference being, I'm not sure Wiley's had actually gotten its hull wet in living memory...as I recall it was a trailer-sailer.
