Yay?
Cain was the best choice, even if somewhat erratic but he shot himself in the dick.
For a while there I was prepared to take a second look at Newt because he could hand Obama his ass in a debate.
Perry, if I may borrow a Texan colloquialism, came out all hat and no cattle.
Bachmann apparently got retardation from vaccines. Which is a shame because she had promise.
Former Obama administration official Huntsman? Seriously? Throw the bum out...leave the daughters.
Santorum. Oh, Mr. Santorum. I've no beef iwth people's religion informing their world view, even for purposes of governance, but he just said too much shit that would be sliced and diced into a death of a thousand cuts.
Ron Paul!
**** Ron Paul. He is the one candidate I would have stayed home over.
So Romeny it is.
I wanted Romeny before McCain last time around. Romeny's big problem is it will be hard to debate Obamacare with him at the helm. And he is so ****ing two-faced it's excruciating to watch.
But then I wonder if that isn't a plus.
Sure there are two sides to every issue and Romney has at least 3 positions to cover each of them but that means he's a political wind reader and he wants the most self-serving outcome. That may be unprincipled but it's also pragmatic.
The problem with Obama is he's so principled in his leftism he gives us Solyndra, EPA regs, NLRB recess appointments etc in spite of the fact he knows they will hurt the economy and him with it.
Not Romney. He won't want to preside over a bankrupt nation and rampant 3rd world despots running roughshod over allies. He won't go after 2nd Amendment rights because the polls tell the pols to ****-off when they try.
And then there is the $$$, which will decide this election. We MUST return to free market principles and wien ourselves off of the nanny-state simply because we have nothing left. Conservativism wins be default because we have spent too much of other people's money.
Romeny can and will defend free markets.
Will it really be THAT bad?
I do feel better this time than I did last time when McCain became the de facto nominee. If Romeny picks a solid conservative VP, ala Palin, he's a guaranteed win.

I didn't care who the (R) was; no matter who it was, or is, he or she was, or is, better than what we got now.
So I was always in advance comfortable with whoever the (R) ended up being.
-
I don't think it will be terrible. This election Obama actually has a record and will have to defend it (ha). As we know there is no defense for the indefensible.
All Romney needs to do about his own healthcare cluster**** is to point out its the states right to **** it up, not the federal government. I am all for the states deciding if they want socialized medicine, we have the freedom of leaving those states...the country is not so easy to leave.

I'm not sure Romney can beat Obama, but I hope so. I'm so tired of the MSM and the DC GOP pre-selecting the candidate before the primaries even begin.
I think our best hope is to take the senate and maintain increase the power in the house.

Well, that is true, and I'm with GOBUCKS on this one.
Only registered members of a political party should be allowed to vote in that party's primaries.
Registered Democrats only in Democrat primaries, registered Republicans only in Republican primaries.
I think our best hope is to take the senate and maintain increase the power in the house.
Of course, and it might happen.
But remember the Supreme Court; that should be our primary concern. Get an (R), any (R), into the White House, and we can sooner or later have a Supreme Court more reflective of the people.
I look at Romney the same way others should have looked at Reagan during the late 1970s. In case anyone's forgotten, Reagan while governor of California (1967-1975) signed some of the most liberal laws ever passed. And in 1976, he prematurely selected the most ultra-liberal U.S. Senator as his prospective running-mate for the presidency.
Of course, Reagan was just being pragmatic, practical, in what he did.
To me, it seems Romney's the same way; and with more support in the Senate and the House, conservatives should be eminently comfortable with Romney in the White House.
-
I've already come to terms with Romney being our candidate. I'd still like to vote for someone else in our primary though. Unfortunately, I don't know who that person is. Paul will probably come out close in Nevada, maybe second place. I'm not voting for Paul, but we have a lot of Ron Paul people running around here. Guess I'll just cast for Romney. He's still better than Obama.

That is why majorities in both houses are crucial for the next four years. Hopefully it would prevent Obama, if he is reelected from appointing a far left liberal like the last two he appointed, and it could prevent Romney from appointing a liberal.

He can't defend it, he won't defend it. At least he hasn't tried thus far. He knows any mention of his record is pure plutonium.
No, he's going to stick with what he's been using the last several months--class warfare. Rhetoric and fixing blame instead of fixing problems is all the guy knows how to do.

^5! You spoke volumes with that short but concise phrase.

My first and second favorite candidates have dropped out. I have yet to decide among those remaining. I will do so, and it won’t be Mitt-- not in the Primary. Eventally, however, I will have to order from the menu, or let someone else do it for me.
No, thanks, I’ll do it myself.
In the Primary, I vote to select the person I want.
In the General, I vote to defeat the person I do not want.
Therefore:
Since the main mission of the General Election of 2012 is the defeat of Barry Soetoro, I will vote for the Republican Nominee.
Even if hs name is Dole McCainovich Rhinoceros Rockefeller XVIII.
When we gather around the campfires among the decayed wreckage of our country, I will not be one of those who say “I could have voted against him, and chose not to.â€

i hated mccain getting it in 08 so i didnt vote for him
i hate romney getting it in 12 but i'll have to vote for him
i was settled strongly on Newt. He could have taken on Obama but didnt know how to take on fellow repub's.

I am not willing to cede that yet. Obama just made 2 recess appointments even though there was no recess. He is and will usurp both the House and Senate. I think that will magnify greatly if he is re-elected, and it scares the hell out of me.
I'll back Romney if I have to. But Newt gets my quote of the day from earlier today: Why would you nominate the guy that lost to the guy that lost to Obama??
-
Romney is not my dream candidate but as others have pointed out, Obama is a nightmare.
If we have Romney I would like to see him paired with a conservative like Santorum but that may be asking too much. Then too I would love to see Santorum take the whole enchilada all by himself.
-
Every time I go to the voting booth the smell is horrendous but I hold my nose and vote. It is getting old! That said, as I've said before I'll vote for Bullwinkle over b. o.

I'd like to see Newt as VP if we have to take Romney. Can you imagine the debate with Slow Joe?

I hate the fact that we had so many candidates rise and then crash just as everyone was coalescing around them. Romney had his following and was able to stick it out while everyone else flamed out. In the future, conservatives need to run candidates that are disciplined, are decent to good orators, and have a solid grasp on policy.

do conservatives run candidates or do candidates run themselves???
we obviously dont get to pick who we want to run, we get to pick from those who choose to run. (obviously they have people influencing them to run though)

You're right. Of course we have to choose from those who do run. I just wish that we had a more disciplined field.

Herman Cain throwing his hat in the ring was especially egregious considering his "encounters" with others. To be that arrogant to think that those issues wouldn't come out by an aggressive liberal press is inexcusable.
Nobody is pure as the driven snow, but there are simply some sins that can't be forgiven. As long as you're a Republican, that is.....

Have you noticed something about Herman Cain? While he was still in the race, there was a lot of talk about tax reform, now that he is out such talk has dropped off the face of the earth.

Good point. As long as there are tax lawyers and a powerful lobby to keep the current tax structure in place (note that both Newt and Perry offer tax "options"), tax "reform" is but a pipe dream.
-
I can probably force myself to vote for him in the general election if it has to come to that. It'll be a choice between Bad and Worse (Or Sucks and Bites) though.
With the Supreme Court, I don't expect Romney to appoint anyone farther right than a dead-center middle-of-the-roader, but it would at least be better than anyone Obama would appoint.
-
Of course this whole thread could just wait until we've have the other 49 Primaries...or just 32 more of them...
My first chance to actually vote on this isn't for another 42 days.

i havent even got my "one vote" say in the primary yet either.

That's why I'm hoping that Newt et al have a good showing in SC, FL, and other primary states. Without a win under their belt in January, some of those campaigns may be willing to throw in the towel. Judging by the sound bites of the debate last night, Newt at least has a chance, and Dr. Nutz will fall to his rightful position as tail-end charlie.
