I Fed A Hungry Person Today.

My ritual on Saturdays when I have to work is Chinese food. (My favorite!) I am walking to my car when this little, but obviously pregnant woman approached me and said she was hungry and hadn't eaten all day. I was saddened to tell her that I didn't have any money (true, no cash) and she said, "That's ok, but thank you anyway." I then said to her, "Wait, do you like Chinese Food?" Her face brightened and she said "YES!"

I took her into the restaurant and bought her a meal of shrimp fried rice and spare ribs. I couldn't stay to talk to her because I had to go to work, but her short story is that she was laid off and travelling form the north down to Ft. Lauderdale where she had family. She had just enough gas money to get her there, but no money for food.

I suppose I just wanted to share this because it felt really good to help someone who was so in need of help. Please be kind to a stranger. If you can't stop to give help, at least give a little wave or a peace sign. Times are tough out there.

As always, the DUmmies are flush with cash, enough to give it hand over fist to anyone needing it.

A hungry pregnant woman?  Never heard of it.  I hope she (the pregnant woman) tricked that DUmmie into a meal as a joke.  I'll try that when I'm pregnant again and see how many DUmmies give me free food.

Yeah well, I'll probably need a job soon.  If they'll buy that, I'm sure that I could interest them in some oceanfront property here in Oklahoma.

I fed several people today, I took three boxes of shoes, some clothes and a few other things to Goodwill. Goodwill will make good use of the items and I'm sure several people will eat at some point because of my donation.

Now GIVE ME a pat on the back!!!11one!

In the past I worked in a school cafeteria. People would be amazed at all the food that is thrown out at the end of the day. I am sure it happens also with restaurants. All this perfectly good food (not SERVED) could be given away to the homeless and the hungry rather than be thrown in the garbage.

Being fired a second time for giving food to the homeless means that you have a lovely and compassionate and incredibly selfless daughter who puts others' wellbeing ahead of her own with full knowledge of what the consequences to her could be. What a wonderful person!

Well you certainly raised her to be a good little liberal - giving away stuff that belonged to someone else. How charitable.

Many years ago I managed a fast food chicken joint and gave food to homeless or broke travelers many times. But guess what? Surprise! I paid for it out of my own pocket first. Thus, I did not do it on someone else's back and was not fired. Imagine that.

If true, why didn't family  make sure their pregnant relative could eat on her way home. I guess that story didn't stink to this fool at all did it?

Now, I know as well as anyone what it's like to have family who don't give a hoot and to be a person who doesn't know how to ask for help. Thank the good Lord I never found myself pregnant as a very young woman--times would have been really bad and I would have been really alone. I would suspect though if someone actually did have 'family' who were willing to take you in and help you out as a young pregnant woman that they would at the very least make sure you had safe travels to get to them. If this story is true, something tells me that same young lady will be out there today panhandling for money again. It's an old scam too by panhandlers that they are on their way somewhere and their car is broken down or out of gas or they are hungry and only have money for x, y, or z. They also know how to play on the compassion of people and present themselves as pregnant or drag their own or other people's children with them to amp the story up.
And every 20 something hippie wannabe always makes their route to Florida. Their intention is usually to hook up with a bunch of other hippie wannabes down in the Keys--their favorite mainstay when it's too cold to travel the RennFaire.

Of course, it was probably a fairy tale so that this particular dump denizen could join in on the 'oh look at how good I am' action.

Those places do dump a lot of food, but i think the issue the restaurants have are the dummies own fault too: lawsuits. They don't want to give anything that has not been stamped, approved, and double checked by a member of management for an approved cause for fear some homeless person might come back and sue them for food poisoning. I really think that's why the dummie's daughter was let go. It could create legal issues for the restaurant if that person she fed(for free) gets sick. That was the creation of dummieland too so they have their own idiot selves to thank for making it difficult to feed someone who is hungry.

Why do libs feel the need to point out their good Samaritan actions every time they do something that deviates from their normal self-centered behavior? Could it be that these acts are so rare that their ego demands some sort of recognition from others?

25. Sigh, we're there as a country

In North Berkeley, there's this little old woman - a bone cancer survivor - just about the nicest person you could ever want to meet. Sometimes she sits outside Chez Panisse, a very high-priced, trendy restaurant, with her little cup. I talk to her sometimes when walking a patient around the neighborhood at night. Around New Year's, it was so cold out, and there she was, all wrapped up, sitting on a bucket. I couldn't help it. I reached into my wallet, grabbed what was in there, and put it in her cup. I don't know how much it was. I didn't care.

Sometimes you see suffering and need and just have to do something.

A DUmmy and his money is easily taken.

No wonder I am harassed by panhandlers in parking lots all the time.  These stupid DUmmies fall for their bullshit stories.  I'm the mean lady who tells the panhandlers to get a job.  I'm sorry.  I work hard for the money I have.  If you are going to consider your source of income as "begging", move on to a more gullible person.  Preferably a person with an Obama/Biden sticker on their car.

DUmmy is talking about how when they give a beggar cash for them to do what they will with it, yet would deny that right to those who earn the money in the first place. Nope. It's usually local health dept nazi rules. Once cooked food has "sat" for so long, we are talking 5, 10, 15 minutes here depending on the food and the rules, it has to be thrown away. Can't even give it to animals. It is OK, however, to put it in a dumpster and let the birds and the dumpster divers have at it.

My opinion of health dept nazis ranks right up there with lawyers. Let's kill them all and do it tonite!!!   :fuelfire:

"Can you spare any change for food?"

Edited on Fri Dec-09-11 04:23 PM by DainBramaged

That comment stunned me as I exited my local supermarket earlier this afternoon. I turned, and there sitting as if everything was great on this sunny day, reading a newspaper like they belonged, was a young couple. First glance, well dressed, not dirty, no 'meth marks' on their faces. Neither smoking. He shaggy blond hair sticking out from under a ski cap, her dark hair under a hoodie. Nice coats, nice boots on both.

"Is it for food or drugs and booze?"

No sir (huh, sir, are you shitting me?) we're hungry and we have no money.

You have split seconds to think how to respond without being hostile appearing or judgemental.

"Can I buy you lunch?"

YES sir, yes sir you can!"

I had just come out of the market, $43.00 in food for most of the week. Fits in a couple of cloth bags. I had a $20 as the change.

"I need to put this in my car, I'll be right back"

OK, we'll wait."

Polite, good teeth, pretty warmly dressed, but there was this edge, they didn't seem to be 'average' homeless.

Stuff in the car, walking back. I think, what is it, stray dogs and cats, dozens of people coming in and out, they asked me. I'm no angel, but my angels keep me grounded.

"Pizza good?"

Yes sir, if it's hot, we're happy!"

We walk down the mall to the pizza joint. "Where are you from?" Not around here sir."

"Are you both older than 18?" " Yes sir, I'm 23, my sister is 21."

Their names are Rich and Pat. I took it as truth. I have no reason to doubt them.

We got to the pizza joint and found a booth. "How about hot subs instead of pizza, I'm sure you get that a lot?" Quick looks and a faint smile from his sister, "Yes sir, we'd like that, you can order for us."

As I've stated before, we've not many 'poor' round these parts, it's one of the richest Puke counties in the US. I ordered them meatball subs and got them both drinks from the cooler. I spent $18.42 of my $20 bill. I'm the one who will be sucking down PB&J sandwiches this week, but that's OK.

"Where are you from?" Quick glances, nods, and then " We're from Indiana, we've been trying to get South where it's warmer before it is too cold. Our Mom had some problems she can't fix, we couldn't stay."

I sat speechless while they ate, it wasn't my place to ask any more personal questions. When you're poor and you HAVE to get out of your house, it's probably best. Their hair wasn't clean. Their hands were, but it was a while since they've showered.

"I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you have nice clothes". " Oh, (laughing quietly) we just raided the clothing bins over there last night, folks throw away nice clothes around here. My boots are new, little big, but they're new."

Living on the road in the richest country in the world and you're raiding clothing donation bins to stay warm.

"How do you get rides, it's illegal to hitch around here." "We hang out where there are trucks and try and get a ride. It's not always pleasant, but we've made it here."

"How long have you been on the road?" "Three weeks, three weeks."

(disclaimer; we talked a lot more, just too much to write down. They never told me why they left, but they were genuinely good kids).

After they finished, I told them I had to go, and asked it I could do anything else to help.

"No sir, no sir, it's been a good day now"

I got up, I shook his hand, his sister gave me a tentative hug, and I gave them this small compact LCD flashlight I carry to help me see when I'm walking at night. They didn't want to take it, but I insisted.

I turned and walked out tears streaming down my wrinkled old face because there's nothing else I can do for them, I'm too poor myself. I only hope they make it ok, and I hope MY angel looks after them.

Thanks for reading.

It only took minor editing.

I gave a girl at Sonic a $10 tip around Christmas. I had bought two drinks and a tater tot for my daughter. I forgot I had given my son the last $40 out of my purse so I had to use my debit card to pay for three items that were under $5 total. Then I found out that you can't put a tip on their debit card thing. I told the girl how bad I felt, she said not to worry about it and left. I sat there feeling terrible a dug around in my purse. I found $10....should I or shouldn't I?  I decided I should. A normal tip at sonic for a couple of drinks is a dollar or so, she was very thankful and I felt good for the day. End of story.

When TF does a simple deed become note Worthy,

Geese Hubby took his snow blower to a home of a  senior citizen, afterward he opened the door for  a supermarket for others running out of the cold.

Then He found a worker in the parking lot who's battery died and he gave them a  Jump.

On his way out of the market he found the cashier had given him 20 dollars extra, he took 10 minutes of his time to return the money.

This is just comman today courtesy, nothing to mention or even think about after the fact.  Is this so unusual that some have to brag about the little things we do without thought, just do as it is the right thing  to do and give up a few minutes of our time.

So one buys a meal for the homeless instead or leading them to a shelter .   Now they brag about spending a few bucks to feed the homeless but do nothing to to help them otherwise.

First when finding a hungry pregnant woman, do not feed her, call the police to take her to a shelter.

You find some old man on your front lawn, do you drag him in the house bath him outfit him with clothes and allow him to live in the spar room ?????    Christians will do this and after a week the police will find them all dead with their throats cut and the stranger long gone.

Note to self: Need to post a thread on DU that helps me earn my DU creds by showing my compassion and also gives me a pat on the back because I'm feeling neglected. That is so unfair to a person like me who thinks generous thoughts. When I was in school I used to get kudos just for having a nice smile and building a really cute ice flow that shows the plight of the poor polar bears out of sugar cubes and a paper mache polar bear. I even made the water out of glue mixed with paint. I used to be entitled to praise but life is much harder as an adult...I have to work for it by telling people about the really, really, really good things I do (or at least think about doing...but really, I think it's okay to pretend I've already done them because I have every intention of doing them someday).

Okay, so what should I do:

Talked to a vet who has PTSD from Bush's evil war? No...President 0bama is doing it now and he's a good guy so vets don't have problems anymore.
Swerved to avoid a squirrel running across the road? No...that's not big enough. Besides, I think I ran over one the other day...granted it was already dead but I flattened it more.
Paid an unemployed friend's heat bill? Hmm, that might be a good one but I'd have to make sure and say it was my last few dollars.
I found a starving stray cat and took it home? Well, that shows compassion but practically everyone there has done that.
Oh, I know! I'll say I fed a homeless person! That's a good one! It shows my compassion for my fellow man and not just a friend. An anonymous soul starving and living in the street. Better yet I'll make it a pregnant person! But what if the wonder why I didn't take her home or to a shelter or something? Maybe she's on her way to somewhere else. Yeah, that'll work. Because I'm really a good person and I really would do this if I came across one and didn't want the rest of my lunch or if I had some extra money. But what if I wanted to take my extra food home and eat it later? Oh, wait...I don't really have to do this because I really truly would...someday...maybe...well I least think about it sometimes.

Gosh, I really am a giving person! I just wish I didn't have to work so damn hard getting everyone else to notice! Okay...now off to DU.
