I saw my neighbor mowing his lawn today.
In Iowa.
In January.
I, like many, have been pretty good at pretending that we (humanity) would be able to take action against global warming. But I'm not so sure anymore.

Either way, its not something we do in January in Iowa. It was 61 degrees today.

That's going to screw with the maple syrup production in Iowa. Yes, they do produce small amounts there.
It's my friends in upstate NY and New England that are really worried about this, though.

2. To hope that mankind as a whole will act in concert to address the problem is in the same category as unicorns and Santa Claus. Things that would be really neat if they were true, but they aren't.
Even if global warming doesn't bring about the extinction of the human race, as both nanotechnology and biotechnology become more and more accessible it becomes easier and easier for a single deranged individual, or a small but dedicated group of deranged individuals to bring about the extinction of the human race on purpose. And as Murhpy's Law states, anything that can go wrong, will. In other words, regardless of whether we address global warming or not the human race is still doomed to extinction.

4. I heard one neighbor crank up his lawn mower on January 1st, 2012.
He used it too. He mowed the yard on New Year's Day. I looked out the window at my yard and saw a few sprigs of wild onions and other various winter growing stuff, but nothing to crank up the mower about. Then again, this one neighbor in question mows the grass obsessively and there is never a damn blade of grass that gets over 2 inches long in his yard, ever. Not a leaf or a stick escapes his eagle vision eyes. His lawn is absolutely perfect.
I don't get it; the lawn thing.
I don't mow until I see larger sized animals. Just the rabbits sitting in 6 inch tall grass? I don't care. I mow just enough to keep the wisteria from wrapping around my neck one night while I sleep and killing me.
Over two thirds of my property is pure out and out jungle and the wildlife loves it. I love it too. That's less for me to have to mow and provides hours of entertainment watching the critters play in the jungle. Plus, they have a place to go live when other people mow every inch of their acreage. If I had the money to do it, I would buy the woods behind my property too, and leave them alone as woods. It doesn't hurt anyone.
I have plenty of cool areas and shade when it is 95+ degrees all summer long. Plus, the jungle area behind my place is beginning to behave like a rainforest. We are in a moderate drought in my area, but I never have to water what little lawn I actually do keep cut (on occasion). It gets moisture naturally from the other 2/3 of the property that is wild and the wild area is always flourishing. I love it!

5. Just last week a friend told me had seen a special that global warming
was made up just to fleece people.
I also at least once a week hear someone claim that last winter was a record breaking cold one which is a patently false claim.

16. Here in NH, we're discussing whether we need to water the ornamental shrubs.
We *DID* water the two big pots by the front door; most years, they'd have been frozen to mush by now, but this year, they're still very much alive. Oh, February may still do them in, but they're surviving far better than
usual.
And meanwhile, lots of evergreen shrubs are looking wilty.
The primitives shouldn't worry so much; I dunno the forecast for the rest of the country, but the Upper Great Plains is slated for a deep freeze beginning in, oh, about eight hours I guess.

These guys are total big babies. I live in Iowa. This is normal not Global Warming.
The weatherman said last week that normal Iowa winters alternate between snow and no snow. Its been odd that the last 5 years were all snowy in a row.
Like every summer heat wave is proof of global warming...gee wally, its always hot in summer.

On successive years, we've seen -18° and +70° in January. The bad thing this year is how dry it's been since mid-July. It looks to continue well into 2012.

There have been some years where northernmost Nebraska in January has been warmer than Los Angeles, California in January.
The last time this happened was about four years ago, I think; I recall looking it up at the time, thinking it a rather unusual phenomenon.....only to find it's a phenomenon that apparently has regularly appeared, oh, the last few million years or so.

Must admit, as someone who works outside for a living, this winter has been very enjoyable so far!
Was looking up snowfall averages for the area, because even though nothing yet this year, couldn't remember if last year or the year before was when we had above average snowfall, and found this funny tidbit:
"These averages don't show how much Buffalo's snowfall varies from year to year.
In December, for instance, one in four years totals over 34.8 inches of snow. Another 25 percent of years receive less than 12.8 inches for the month.
Similarly in January, fresh snowfall in the heaviest years amounts to over 35.6 inches, while the lightest years get less than 13.8 inches.
Snow in February ranges from over 22.4 inches in heavy snowfall years to under 9.4 inches in light years."

Um, no we're not worried. I own an almost 5k tap sugar bush and there is no worry. Winter isn't even half over yet, it will get cold. Even though it's been a warm winter, it's still been cool enough that trees aren't budding. It's actually been nice being able to get around the woods without snowshoes, had to replace some main lines the last couple weeks and can still get the tractor around the woods.

Actually, everyone missed the purpose of this thread.
The purpose of this thread is so DUmmy progressoid can brag to the DUmpmonkeys that he lives in one of those elite neighborhoods where people have lawns to mow.
Decent and civilized people don't recognize it, but to most of the DUmmies, who live in swarming, fetid, government-subsidized apartment hellholes, a lawn is a symbol of wealth and unimaginable luxury.

Enjoy it. I remember living in Wisconsin when it was near 80 degrees in December one year. Not sure what year it was, but I had roller blades. Myself & a neighbor friend went out roller blading the day it was so warm in December. It was amazing. LOVED IT! :)
It's been in the mid-60's in Las Vegas for the last week and a half. I'm enjoying it. It's a mild winter. Not global warming.

In 1978, I was mowing hay in April, the ONLY time that had or has ever happened here.
Winter of 1986, the weather was so mild, construction on the interstate expansion thru here continued all winter.
It's called "CLIMATE", and it CHANGES! DUH!
What you idiots can't seem to understand is the milder the winter, the LESS fossil fuel we have to burn to keep warm. At the rate I'm going this year, I'll have enough wood left over to get thru next year, but I'm not holding my breath for the weather to stay this nice until March.

I do feel bad for the guys who make their winter living plowing snow.
I'm all for personal freedom, and to do what you want on your own property, but that DUmmie with the rainforest in her yard...that's just pure laziness. Must look like crap. Maybe she'll get a nasty snakebite. Or a recluse spider bite.

Hmmm, the messiah just gave the Commonwealth of MA $40+ million for the cities/towns who were hit hard by the October storm - Halloween weekend. Leaves still on trees so 1 foot+ of snow and ice sent them crashing. Power was out in most areas for over a week, some two weeks.
Global warming Mother Nature is a bitch isn't it misfits?
