Bill would require photo ID to cast vote (Nebraska to supress the vote too?)
We already are stuck with a majority of R voters. I guess R leaders are afraid they will jump ship. There will be a rally against this Thursday in Lincoln with free bus rides offered and more.

LINCOLN — The first big battle of the 2012 Legislature is shaping up over a bill requiring Nebraskans to show government-issued photo identification to vote.
Legislative Bill 239 made it out of committee last year but never came up for debate.
Now it's high enough on the agenda that lawmakers are expected to take it up within a week or two.
Opponents have already dug in for a fight, filing enough amendments last week to ensure that the discussion will be lengthy.
FULL story at link.

Too bad Omaha's Ed Norton didn't itemize the list of organizations for this bill, or something similar with it; but of course it'd be miles long.

From The Blaze, you have to have an ID to buy drain cleaner in obama's home state but you are a racist if you want voters to show an ID.

Got a clogged drain? Before you can buy that liquid drain cleaner, I need to see some ID.
**snip**.
Illinois has a new law that took effect on January 1 requiring all people who purchase drain cleaners or any caustic substances to provide a government issued photo ID. And retailers now must ask for identification from those buying drain cleaners and maintain extensive records of which caustic products have been purchased, in what amounts, and by whom.
The law came about after two Illinois women were burned by acid attacks back in 2008. One of the women later admitted to burning herself with acid, but the law was still pushed through the system.
And so, because of one random crime where acid was used to burn a victim, thousands of people will be forced to show identification when they purchase drain cleaners, and countless hours of business time will be spent filling out, maintaining and monitoring the government mandated forms associated with each purchase. Additionally, any person carrying caustic chemicals can be charged with a Class 4 felony in Illinois. (Class 4 felonies can carry fines up to $25,000 and 1-3 years in jail.)
The Illinois drain cleaner law is just one of the 40,000 new laws that took effect in the new year. For the record, the 40,000 new laws are a 29% increase over the previous year.
**snip**
-
From the list of Orgs. against the bill, I'd say that most have some form of government ID...police photo...most wanted poster.

Drain cleaner is an ACID???
Sure. It's a chemical, isn't it?
For he libtards, it's just like all firearms are either assault rifles or Glocks
(we used to have Saturday night specials, but they're apparently all gone now).

Indeed - I just saw a beer commercial where Billy Dee Williams was hawking Glock 45.

Well, since poor people and minorities never have clogged drains, it is only fair...

Well, they do, but they just call the landlord and threaten to take their section 8 subsidy somewhere else.

I live in Florida and I have to show my ID to vote...What makes them think they are so special that they don't need to prove who they are to vote? Geesh what little bitty crybabies they are.
-
Do you know if by chance my fellow Nebraskan's released his platform yet, for his race for the Bellevue City Council? I believe he'd promised he was going to do that soon.
Nothing in the Omaha newspapers about it.
I can hardly wait to see what Omaha's Ed Norton proposes to do about lowering taxes, lessening governmental interference in business and personal life, honoring the military, coming down hard on public sector unions, ending machine cronyism and corruption, and all these other stances necessary for winning in Bellevue.

It's not that they mind for the first vote. It just gets tiresome remembering which ID to show with which name they're trying to use to vote that second, third, and fourth time.

In Ohio, elected state officials are allowed to purchase season tickets to Buckeye football games.
If a similar situation holds in Nebraska, we have the Weeper's motivation.
Bellevue council is just a stepping stone to some sweet seats at Memorial Stadium.
Of course, he'd want them to be comped.

I'm sure this has been asked before; but how do these people who would be disenfranchised do any business at a bank? Am I to suppose that NONE of these people ever have to cash a check?

Or go to a liquor store, buy cigarettes, etc.
IT's cuz voting is a RIGHT, and dims have a RIGHT to vote numerous times, even when dead. :lmao:

That's all it is; it has nothing at all to do with disenfranchising potential voters.
It has everything to do with Democrats, liberals, and primitives trying to commit election fraud by having the jowly carbuncled cigar-smoking guy sitting behind a desk at city hall create votes out of thin air.
Voter identification just makes it harder to do that. Not impossible, but harder.

KFAB 1110 AM in Omaha this morning was talking about this and asking the same questions. They also mentioned that the DOJ might add Nebraska to thier list of who to sue over having to require an ID to vote.

The stealing of copper, scrap meatals of all types has gotten so bad in my area that the county now requires anyone selling scrap to have a photo ID and a scrap sellers number.
I was at the scrap yard a few times last week and the line of Obama voters was unbelieveable. People were driving in with the trunk and backseat of their cars stuffed with scrap. Most of it looked so hot it shouldn't take much electricity to melt it down.

wouldnt it create jobs?
some business out there makes a machine that creates the IDs

In the Peoples' Republic of Illinois, you need a photo ID to buy a jug of Drano.

The difference between 'Caustic' and 'Corrosive,' or 'Bases' and 'Acids,' apparently eluded the sooper-jeenyuses making laws in Illinutz.

They just want the privilege of voting multiple times. In St Louis it's honed to perfection. They even vote from the grave. I guess those ghosts lost their picture ID's. :-)
It's amateur hour in St Louis compared to "across the river--Mississippi that is" in Illinois. They're pros at that multiple voting there. ID's would just get in the way.

It has always driven me insane that they have made such a big deal about the Photo ID thing.
I myself really do try to look at all the issues they bring up, and every once in a blue moon I agree. I mean a very slim small blue moon.
But this one to me is just a no brain-er. I mean people having to show a Photo to prove who the hell they are to vote and elect people who run our country.
And them being upset about this issue just goes to show their true intentions on keeping the voter fraud intact.
My state passed this law, but also passed a law that if you are on government assistance you can get a free ID. Argument squashed.

1. Perhaps we will hear from those that approve of this bill?
Fs, people that live on a street named after a President, OR maybe somebody smarter than me might find a list of those groups that endorse LB 239.
Fs? There he goes with his stupid veiled threats again.
Little stevee wants someone "smarter than me" to provide a list of those who support. I'll do him one better. I'm infinately more intelligent than he can ever hope to be, so I'll explain to him about the main reason the groups he listed are against the bill becoming law and why it's illogical.
They claim that voter ID is racist. That's the basis of their complaints.
What little stevee needs to do is answer this.
Today railroads and hotels, along with almost all providers of public accommodations in almost all circumstances, are prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race. So what happens when you ride on Amtrak, the government-subsidized railroad? You hear an announcement over the PA system advising you to be prepared to show your identification if the conductor asks to see it.
Likewise, these days there is a good chance you will be asked for identification when you check into a hotel. You need ID to board an airplane or to drive a car. Recently I visited a doctor whose office is in a hospital. Just to enter the premises, I needed to present ID to a security guard.
If black people have trouble producing identification, how come nobody ever claims that these requirements are discriminatory?
Another important aspect of civil rights is equal employment opportunity. Under the 1986 immigration law, when you are hired for a job, you are required to provide your employer with documents proving both your identity and your citizenship or legal residency. How come nobody ever claims these requirements discriminate against blacks?
It is possible that the ID requirements for planes, trains, automobiles, hotels, hospitals and jobs have justifications so compelling as to justify discrimination. It is also possible that, by contrast, preventing election fraud is not a sufficiently compelling justification. The point here is that no one has ever had to make the former argument, because nobody claims ID requirements are discriminatory against blacks except when it comes to voting.

Can anyone explain to me what the above quote from Steve meant? It's some sort of twisted logic but I just...can't...get it.

Let me take a shot . . . by insinuating that they may "jump ship," he thinks that they will go to him. Steve, let me say this now--not a ****ing chance, especially when they find out about your socialist leanings. :yahoo:

The people of Bellevue are waiting, and franksolich from up here on the roof of Nebraska is waiting breathlessly, for my fellow Nebraskan to unveil his platform; to tell us what he's going to do for the people of that city.
However, I don't think Omaha's Ed Norton was ever serious about running.
Omaha Steve has a reputation for being rashly impulsive, for doing whatever feels "good" at the moment, and the afternoon he made his announcement was one of those things. He felt hyped, he felt jolly, he felt a lack of attention, and so made this bombastic announcement so as to feel good.
That's just the way he is.
That he isn't serious is betrayed by that he continues to hang around the primitives on Skins's island, when reason dictates he should've ditched it before making his announcement, so that no one would connect his real name in real life with that of Omaha Steve on the internet.
My fellow Nebraskan's like some white guy who continues to post on a Ku Klux Klan message board while running for office in a heavily-majority black district; if he doesn't see that, I'll have to re-evaluate my high estimation of him.

It would have also helped a lot to not have posted his real name over on the island of misfit toys as well.

That would've come out sooner or later, if anybody would've thought to connect the candidate with the primitive.
But the longer Omaha's Ed Norton was away from Skins's island, the more remote the chance anyone would've thought of that.
The record of primitives announcing their candidacy for some office on Skins's island is currently 0-6 I think, and they all were done in by their association with an extreme left-wing hate message board.

I swear OmahaSteve must be an attention Whore of some kind. On another thread he posted about ALF burning 10 trucks with home made bombs and not a peep from him about how despicable an act it was. All this posting on DU no matter the reason or cause, he just keeps posting to see what kind of reaction his fellow DUmpmonkies will give. Keep going Steve you will feed yourself enough rope to hang yourself with before that election starts.
