US employers added 200,000 jobs in December, jobless rate fell to 8.5 percent

Lowest unemployment rate in three years!
Economy adds 200,000 jobs in Dec.
WASHINGTON (AP) – The U.S. job market strengthened in the second half of 2011, and added 200,000 jobs in December while the unemployment rate fell to 8.5% from a revised 8.7% a month earlier.
That's an even stronger finish than economists had forecast. They had expected employers added a net 150,000 jobs last month, according to a survey by Factset. They also predict that the unemployment rate ticked up to 8.7% from 8.6%, which was the lowest rate since March 2009.
The projected hiring gains would mark a six-month stretch in which the economy generated 100,000 jobs or more in each month. The last time that happened was in April 2006 — more than a year and a half before the country plunged into the Great Recession.
President Barack Obama still could face voters in November with the highest unemployment rate of a sitting president seeking election since World War II. Unemployment was 7.8% when Obama took office in January 2009.
But Obama could benefit if the unemployment rate continues to dip. History suggests that presidents' re-election prospects depend less on the unemployment rate itself than on the rate's direction during the year or two before Election Day.

10. Great news all around.
Our nation will overcome Republican stonewalling.
That's "obstructionism", DUmbass. Get it right, or it's pizza for you.

11. What kind of jobs are we talking about?
Full time, Living-Wage-Jobs with benefits?
We don't know, because they never say. It is always just "jobs".
How many are seasonal? How many are and always will be part time? How many are minimum wage?
How many are temporary because of something unexpected? You know, like sorting out pallets of 'leakers' at a Coke or Pepsi canning plant? I had one of those one time.
Just jobs is not good enough. What we need are full time, Living-Wage-Jobs with benefits. Then we can celebrate. But don't get excited about just jobs that puts a temporary dip in the cooked numbers they call the unemployment rate.
Someone asks a relevant question.
...and gets a reply.

Yep, since the republicans have been in control of the HOR the economy has gotten better. Some consistency and sanity in one part of one branch of the government can go a long way.
-
Someone complained about Dollar General hiring scads of people. They're always demanding living-wage-jobs-with-benefits. For that, you need thriving businesses. The minute a business starts to thrive, the king zero administration circles like sharks. OWS's too. "THEY'RE MAKING MONEY!! AAAUUGH!!"
-
Another point to consider, DUmbasses:
If the workforce participation rate were the same now as it were in January 2009 (you know, when the Annoited Wun took the throne) and those people were still looking for work instead of not being counted against the unemployment rate, we'd get reported rates of 11-12 percent.
As it is, the U-6 rate (unemployed, discouraged workers, or part-timers wanting full time) is about 16 percent. That's a much more accurate representation of unemployment.

So when the economy is faltering it is the fault of the r-words but when the economy is good then it is all 0's doing.

According to the left any jobs GWB created were low-paying hamburger flipping jobs which the left said were signs of a bad economy. All the jobs Obama (PBUH) created are actually that kind but now they are signs of a good economy. :mental:

Well, remember the one month when fully half or more of the "created" jobs were in fact because of the national hiring day at McDonalds?

Yep, and it is amazing that one company could have that kind of effect on employment numbers. It could only happen when a SCFOAMF is running the country. :(

Kinda how I see it. I'll reserve judgment until I see the Jan numbers and 'corrected' Dec numbers, then the Feb and 'corrected' Jan numbers.

Well, I did break wind in December.
At least I think I did.
Made me feel better.
Does that count?

I never take those figures at face value because I assume them to be deliberately inflated. I'll wager that fully half that figure represents seasonal temp jobs anyway.
-
They'll be quietly "revised" by the end of the quarter.
-
How would a dummie know if the job picture and economy improved. He/she would have to get off the couch, put down the dope pipe, Cheetos and actually go look for a job.
-
There are still millions of Americans without jobs. Why are they celebrating?

Even Paul Krugman was able to remove his head from The Won's ass long enough to realize this is bullshit...
al-Reuters (http://news.yahoo.com/many-americans-jobs-crisis-last-many-years-002143982.html)
Princeton University economist Paul Krugman said that at December's pace it could take a decade for the labor market to recover from the recession.
In a back-of-the-envelope calculation, Krugman was considering that the country's growing population adds at least 100,000 people to the workforce every month.
"We need much faster job growth," he wrote on his blog. "It says something about how beaten down we are that this (jobs report for December) is considered good news."

I don't think DUmmies would allow that, even if it would reelect Obama. They hate Christmas more than the love them some Obama.

The economy grew by 200,000 jobs.
After 2 million were dropped from the books after their unemployment ran out.

Exactly, and H5.

Once again - everything that the primitives chastised GWB for, they approve of when the Obama administration does it.
Primitives, the way unemployment is calculated is justs as 'wrong' now as it was then, since Team Obama is using the same formula. This leaves you with two options...
Bush was right in his calculations, and not intentionally misleading the public- while you were wrong to condemn him for it.
Obama is wrong in his calculations, and is intentionally misleading the public- while you are wrong to commend him for it.
Pick one. Notice how regardless of which item you choose, you primitives are still wrong. That's the way it is when you set yourselves up with your own logical absurdity.

The economy is so good around here, 3 people I know went out of business Dec. 31.
And they won't be on the unemployment rolls either.....they were selfemployed.
