How stupid is this over a book? Police should be arresting criminals.

Well, I'd bet my next paycheck that next time, the girl doesn't borrow something and fail to return it.

Yeah, it's overkill, but it's effective.

As to the tears? Tough shit, little girl. Return property after you borrow it and you won't have to cry next time or have a cop at your door asking you to return what you'd borrowed a couple months ago.

Why should the library be obligated to spend taxpayer money in mailing out late notices?

Library's are having problem today as more and more people by pass them for the internet.

I agree with Eupher, books cost money, the Library is the only place I know of that I can walk into and looking for a book they will search everywhere for what I request.  They will search everywhere all over the country until they find the book, be it College Library's to all Library's in our country and perhaps a few out of country.

Matter of fact I do not even have to physically enter the building, just phone call them from my home, when they find my book I do have to pick it up there but some Library's will mail books to those that cannot go in person to get it, and include return postage so the book can be mailed back.

It is not so much a child forgot to return her books but that the importance of those that wish to read that book is now unenviable to them as long as the child has not returned it.

Where was the parental supervision of their child's property on LEND ?????

This is not the responsibility of a 5 year old, it is the responsibility of the parent to teach the child the value of the items they borrow.

Library's are National and Regional treasures, they do more then LEND out books, they are the source for free admission to museums and science fairs, they arrange learning tours for senior citizens down to school field trips.

The parent of the child needs to be educated in the value of a library and not put the blame on a 5 year old, who is too young to understand that their parents were at fault and not them.

Why was the child afraid and crying in fear of being arrested for not turning in the books, makes me want to bit*ch slap the parent for their responsibility being placed on their little kid.

Will this child ever go into a library again after this experience ??????
