Hello Folks,
Pleased to meet you all. This is the first time I've ever joined an internet discussion group so I know I'm green and don't mind getting knocked up side the head a time or two if it'll help me get the hang of things.
I'm a third generation Nebraska boy who thought I tricked some poor young lady into marrying me last summer, until I found out she was just tricking me into packing up and moving to Colorado. The mountains are pretty but it sure isn't home. I teach biology at a charter school here in the area, and luckily haven't met a single student that acts like I did at their age. I'm Christian and Conservative but pretty tolerant of anybody's belief's just so long as they don't try to force them on me. I haven't found a Church here where I feel I quite belong, yet, and outside of my wife's family not many locals who share my values. I guess that's why I'm here on this web-site.
I look forward to getting to meet all of you, and thanks for having me.

Welcome, sir.
It's always nice to get an additional Great Plainsian in here, because we're rather, uh, outnumbered.
Every extra set of hands helps.
If you have questions, never hesitate to ask a moderator; that's what we're here for, and there's no such thing as a stupid question. If you don't know, ask.

Hye! Welcome to CC! You seem awesome. :)

Welcome!

My son's scout troop was out that way a year ago and he loved Colorado. Said he'd like to live there until he discovered their liberal politics. Liberals sure like to put a blight upon some of the loviest places in our nation.

I'm still finding my way around the place but from what I've been told, the political leanings are defined city by city more than for the state as a whole. I do know they have a home-rule system so each city has a lot of power to make their own rules. Where I am is a university town which seems to lean liberal for the most part, but being a big agricultural school there has to be a conservative presence--I just haven't met them. We're about an hour away from Boulder, though, which evidently even the County Sheriff here calls "The People's Republic of Boulder". But just a few hours away is Colorado Springs which is the home of Focus on the Family, the Air Force Academy and from what I'm told a very solid conservative city. The eastern part of the state is pretty much the western edge of the breadbasket so it's strongly traditional family oriented, but it's also a much smaller portion of the population. It's definitely not what I'm used to, but I wouldn't call it San Francisco either.

Thank God, not another Texan!

Yeah, Frank, if only the Alamo had as many Texans as CC does, they'd've totally sent Santa Anna running back to Mexico. :-)
Welcome to the Cave, PJ Husker Fan.

...yet. It's my understanding Colorado has become home to many transplanted Californians. I believe you can probably identify a lot of them by their driving skills, or lack thereof. :rotf: Being from Nebraska, you're probably used to people that can handle about any vehicle under about any conditions, so be prepared to practice intense self-protection on any road with less than ideal conditions.
Welcome to the Cave!

Welcome! You'll find it a decent place, here. IIRC, there's a Nebraskan who loves to bitch-slap newbies here.

What Chris_ said.
We are a pretty diverse group, there really isn't a groupthink line to which you have to cleave in order to get along here.

Welcome P.J.!
Little does your bride or her family realize that in transplanting a flatlander in their midst they have wrought upon themselves a change which they will be unable to resist (better hang a rosary and a necklace of garlic cloves around your neck just in case).
Like the ant that brought the poison home to the colony you are the templar of truth that will see the lot of them converted to conservatism in no time. You certainly have your work cut out for you but trust that we Cavers are behind you and you shall be triumphant.
Good luck, soldier! :salutearmy:

Welcome, Husker. Your knowledge of biology might just come in handy here !
