Intrepid girl reporter Nosey Nadin Abbott took a break from the Occupy today. She got up early, got all dolled up, and took a test drive this morning at the San Diego Auto Show! She was reporting for Motor Trendspotting Magazine, aka the online East County Magazine she volunteer-writes for. And--get this--the vehicle she rode in is called . . . the Rubicon! I kid you not. They took that baby on a tilt-a-whirl of a ride, at speeds up to 5 mph, and guess what, no tipping point!
Hubby Abbott went along and took photos. Nosey Nadin brought her video gear (batteries included) and posted a POV YouTube--in which you can hear the Nadster speak! It's all here! Behold, reportage!

Realize the technology is moving forwards. From the first time I saw one of these suckers, an Insight in 2000 to now... who'd thunk we'd see Hyrbrid Electric full sized trucks?
Hyrbrids-who'da thunk it? Who can even spell it?
Of course as of now getting these engines into a tractor trailer might be truly a dream. I cannot wait to see some of the redesigns that actually make THOSE aerodynamic and less drag. (And yes, there is an issue with what do you do with the batteries after the fact)
Nadin cannot get away from the batteries.

Is that Brezhnev speaking? :-)

Of note, Toyotas are also the official vehicles used by the San Diego Lifeguards.
Noted, Nadin. Next time I want to drive a vehicle into the ocean, I will choose a Toyota.

All these vehicles are still produced in Japan, but due to the Fukushima earthquake, Toyota is considering production in the US. There were some serious issues with the supply chain and backups after the quake hit.
Not to mention the radiation emissions. They're all Fuku'ed up.

If I want advice on cars I';d rather these guys be the ones to give it.

better mileage than it’s competitors. . . .
Unlike it’s gas cousin. . . .
Like it’s cousin the Silverado. . . .
The Nissan Leaf is now in it’s second year of production. Like all vehicles in it’s class. . . .
decent mileage for it’s class. . . .
impressive mileage for it’s class. . . .
"Its" an apostrophe catastrophe.

the Backup Collision Intervention System. It is essentially a Radar\Sonar unit that will detect people behind the driver as he backs the vehicle.
Nadin knows Sonar. Learned all about it from Captain Nemo.
It will warn the driver, and it will also apply the breaks. . . .
Those are the brakes.

Did you know these cars actually employ real live dolphins in the trunk? All you have to do is feed them fish a couple times a day and you're golden!

Oh and yes, the side mirrors do fold in, protecting them from damage while parked. It does have a rear camera standard, and for those of us who are short, the pedals adjust.
Now we know that Naddy is short--of stature, I mean.

I saw her post on Facebook about the Rubicon and I cracked up laughing. It was the funniest thing ever, so far.... :)
-
Two things I noticed about the video:
1. Nadin must be DAMNED short, because the camera was barely above the dash, and
2. She sounds just like Natasha Fatale, Boris Badenov's sidekick in the "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoons.

Well, here it is, morning in Nebraska, and the below's the whole campfire generated on Skins's island:

VROOM! INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW HAS POWER, STYLE & SIZZLE
From green hybrids and electrics to heavy-duty trucks for backcountry roads, this year’s show has it all
By Nadin Abbott
December 30, 2011 (San Diego)--The San Diego International Auto Show is presented by the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego. It’s a cool way for San Diegans to see what’s new in vehicles--and it is among the largest car shows in the nation. For those who are interested in more ecologically sound cars and even trucks, we are seeing more and more hybrids, flex fuel vehicles and electrics across most classes. The technology has come a long way in a short decade, making it both more compact and efficient.
Scroll down for highlights from the show—including our video of a test drive on a rugged Jeep track.

1. I didn't see any trucks...
Just pickups.
Here's your electric and hybrid trucks....

And no, there is not an issue with what you do with the batteries after the fact. Utility companies are already getting geared up to use them after the vehicle range is down to about 80%. And after that they will be recycled - the process is already in place.

2. The Tundra is a truck, though not a service truck
there were none of those unless I count the fire department gear.
And good to know, I always wonder about the batteries. Oh and full disclosure we drive a hybrid and we love it.

From the looks of the Facebook picture and the sound of her(?) voice I would say there is something genetically messed up.
Nads we know you visit, hell it is almost your shining hour please explain why you never took any videos while "reporting" on the park cockroaches?
It makes no sense, you could be up for the Pulitzer to compliment DUmbass of the year.

I know, she's built like Boris, yet has the voice of Natasha, hmmm. Couldn't be the milk could it?

H5. Got any snow up there?

Yes, yes it could be the milk.

There's no enough ozium in the world to spray in a vehicle after nadin has invaded it.

You would think that this 'magazine' she wrote for would actually proofread articles before they put them up. :rotf:

I thought the official vehicle of the Democratic party (at least for driving into the water) was a late 70's Olds... Ahhhh, how times change.

Thomas Abbott did not just take the photographs, he wrote the article.
There is no way on God's earth nutcase nadin could have written those sentences, if you gave her a month to edit.
No way. She could just as easily have written Canterbury Tales, or Shakespeare's plays.

If it was about 3 feet taller, and can say "Can I get me a huntin' licence here?" with a northeastern accent, it could pass for John F'n Kerry (who served in Vietnam).
