so, who can run for and win nelson's seat?
dragging old guys out of retirement is not, it seems to me, a good way to go.
who is an up and coming grassroots activist that can run? a good populist candidate ought to be able to win, damn it.

A pretty gloom and doom thread as the DUmbasses realize they are screwed

1. Give it up
It's Nebraska. It's Deep Red. A good populist candidate would get creamed. Kerrey coming out of retirement is probably the Dems best option, but really we should just write it off and be relieved that we don't have to spend precious resources fighting a doomed battle. Diverting money that would have been wasted on Nelson to battles we can win in MA, WI, and elsewhere is actually a gift.
Then, this gem

6. I know who!!
Omaha Steve?
:-)

I wouldn't be as downcast as the primitives, but at any rate, even if a Nebraska Democrat were to run and take the seat, the primitives wouldn't like him anyway.
-
This looks like an ideal opening for Omaha Steve.
Why waste time screwing around with city council?
-
Absolutely.
Obamaha Steve would be a shoe in.
His credentials are impeccable.
No skeletons in the closet.
No history of radical political activism.
A true paragon of honesty in every sense of the word.

Methinks franksolich would make a fine Nebraska senator!
And even if he wouldn't, it would be worth it just for the entertainment value. DUmmy heads asplode!!!!!

Finally, a senator with a legitimate excuse for not listening to his constituency.

Good one, sir.
Awesome!

The Dummies should know that after Bob Kerreys last trip through the landscape that is Nebraska Politics that the reason he got out was pretty much the same reason Nelson is getting out. He doesn't stand a chance of winning. Kerreys far to liberal to get back in and the great people of Nebraska do not like it when anyoe moves to the left . Kerrey would talk conservative while running in Nebraska but run liberal when he hit D.C.

Elizabeth Warren, is that you?

How 'bout Ted Kennedy? I hear he's just laying around doing nothing these days.

The deal is, the primitives wouldn't even like Kerrey.
About the time Hagel (R) was getting ready to retire, the Democrats were looking for someone to run for that open seat (this was in 2008), and Kerrey's name came up quite often. (Johanns (R) won the seat.)
Kerrey, although out of the Senate by then still a prominent public person, was a supporter of George Bush's intervention in Iraq.
Nope, the primitives wouldn't like Kerrey. No way.

Isn't The Kootch still looking for a state?
If you could fit Kucinich up in a full Carhartt outfit, slap a Tractor Supply ballcap on his head, and stick an alfalfa stem in his teeth, he'd look like a winner.
He'd become an instant local favorite, much like Pitt the Texas cowboy.
If Hillary! can become an upstate New Yorker, and Jay Rockefeller a Mountaineer, then The Kootch can be a Cornhusker.

Not even if he painted himself red and stuck a corncobb someplace where sunlight doesn't exsist could he ever be one of them.

I hear he is just a little over one year sober now, too.
