56. haha
Rebuttal to all your points.
1. This income isn't part of the general revenue which is taxed out of the corporation. The majority of this income comes from the non-taxable investment returns which -- what do you know -- require legitimate capital which are paid from stocks that public investors like you and me invest into so we can expect to return a decent profit.
2. The same as above. Note that SafeWay also gives to charitable causes. $50 million given to AIDS research in 2009, $62 million given to AIDS research in 2010.
3. Not a part of his salary -- that comes from public investment returns. His company also re-invests a good portion of the income into producing a larger volume of goods so demand for goods can decrease, thus lowering prices to satisfy public consumption.
4. Safety violations in common in today's work environment. $200,000 isn't a large price to pay. Attention is paid to all regulations to ensure a decent level of worker safety.
5. There's evidence that the violations they're accused of are unfounded.
6. Common sense. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
7. Correction: you are the vocal 0.1% lazy Liberals. Get a job, work hard, stop complaining, and be glad that you live in a free country like America.

44. More info, the guy is upset with Safeway and the union
My name is Mary VanGorder. I am Emily’s mom. This is the story of why Emily’s dad, Mike, got fired from Safeway.
*snip*
Cal Osha recently went through the warehouse again and fined Safeway almost $200,000 for violations. Safeway was obviously aware they were breaking the laws, as they made Osha get a warrant and bring the sheriff to be able to set foot on Safeway’s property.
OSHA needing a warrant? :wtf2:

Cal OSHA, not the Feds. In CA anything is possible, as long as it means greater red tape, even if it ties up their own red tape agencies.
Thing is, with a regulator's fines, the regulator can assess anything it wants to, within certain huge limits (And since a lot of them, like Fed EPA, are funded by their collections, they go nuts with it). Even when the target has a defense, most times it's much cheaper to pay a negotiated settlement on the bureaucratic extortion than it is to contest the fines and have them hanging over the balance sheet...the advantage regulators have is that they are limited only by their own patience and can keep a violation case going for as many years as they want, but the target corporation has to ultimately worry about the total cost.

I wondered about that. We were told that if OSHA ever comes into the shop and once they identify themselves, we are supposed to cooperate fully with them.
ETA: And that is from management.

OSHA was big on the farms around here during the Jimma Caharter days. Some dumbass rule or reg that you had to have "facilities" within 5 minutes walking distance from where you were working, meaning we would have to have about 20 outhouses to be compliant. Nevermind it was usually me and/or my dad doing the work, and if we had to "go", we "went". (If a bear can do it in the woods, so can I.)
Finally, enough of the farmers got fed up with their snooping, and started "greeting" the feds with shotguns.
Rarely ever see one here anymore.

Kudos to NotaDUmmie, for finding and saving it! I just wanted to reiterate this, cause it's so good:

NUTS, company's got a 8 hour heads up from inspection from OSHA or Food safety. in 22 years only once did inspections of any kind come in with a 2 hour notice.
Panic by the office and bosses. I was working on what was called the Wet End of the plant and told to ignore these guys and go about my work. I was sorting a product on the line, looked up and there were 3 men staring at me, one who resembled a serial killer, blank staring eyes and no expression on his face. They stood there for a good 3 minutes then the Creepy one said something to the man next to him and he came over to request I put on work gloves. I did so immediately as requested knowing gloves were not required for my job.
Weird, I was not in any trouble as the specs for the job did not require gloves but this inspector and my boss got into a long talk in the office.
Food safety in the field is a problem for farmers, they may comply with the outhouses but there is never hot water or soap to wash hands after using the facilities. Source of E-coli right there.
Way back in 1988 I worked in a cosmetic factory making Avon Products, before I was allowed to exit the bathroom I had to be screened for bacteria on my hands. Then don new gloves.
We have know about these diseases for years, no problem in the past using horse or cow manure on the fields, their Honey seldom had Ecoli, why is it that most prevalent today ????-----------=Hell in the past people planted their gardens over their leach fields or septic tanks, some dug out their outhouses and used it for fertilizer or even pumped out their septics to spread on the fields. Today Pot growers use Pig shit high in nitrogen to grow their crop.
Cantaloupe, one grower is bankrupt when Ecoli was found in their product and actually killed a few score of folks. Where did this come from, how did it get there, ground water, fertilizer, sure did not come from a few deer that trespassed into the field.
A heart breaker for the family not to mention the family's of those that died eating their product. Times like these OSHA and any government agency is welcome to try to figure out what went wrong, lives and futures are at stake in these cases.
Bears do indeed shit in the woods, where else can they crap. But bears do not use toilet paper and man must. Forget that cutesy add on TV, bears do not use toilet paper.
Easy solution for every 20 outhouses have a 50 gallon drum of boiling water and cold water on site to mix and make sure the workers wash their hands leaving the port a john.
I myself do not want to eat a tomato that some picker had just put their hands on their penis to piss or worse to poop. Yes I do wash off my produce, but at times the germs just take a good drink unless they are boiled.

Yup, same here. As I understand it, with a change in the law a few years ago, they can show up and begin fining ON THE SPOT. Minimal fine is/was $7500 per infraction, per day from the time THEY feel the the infraction occurred.

Mike VanGorder began working for Safeway’s Distribution Center ........blahblahblah
>snip<
Frustrated with everything going on, Mike decided to silently protest at his job. For 3 weeks he went to work wearing a t-shirt speaking out against Safeway and Teamsters. It said “Slaveway & Teamsters, working together to break down working conditions.â€
blah
blah
I think he can forget about getting his job back Ya think, DUmbass and compensation is completely out of the question. For those that might not know, OSHA has a tip line that any employee can call. The number is posted in every worksite.

Oh, ya, first thing to do is wear clothing that disparages your employer and expect a free pass.
No, babycakes, he does not have the right to do that on company property.
They, however do have the right to fire him for it.
It's their call, not his.
