I used to really enjoy our old town dump. It was just a thirty-foot-high heap of garbage and trash, and every month or so a dozer would come in and push trash over the sides, to make room for the dump trucks to come in on top and unload more trash. It was crawling alive with rats, and I fired thousands of rounds of .22 shorts at them, from about age nine or ten until I went away to college. During my absence, the dump disappeared, replaced by a "sanitary landfill", a barren, sterile, useless bit of real estate.
The DUmbasses want to keep their old town DUmp, but they don't have a chance.

Hey, just thought of something. Maybe we can deliver a polite and sincere request to Skinner
to allow us to keep this place open until New Year's Eve.
That way, we'd all be able to prepare for a certain cutoff time, and it would coincide with sending out one year, while bringing in another. As well as sending out one DU version, while bringing in another.
I realize that after a point, this place will start to cost them to run it. I don't know when that happens. Maybe they are still making some add $ from it still, and therefore not in a hurry to shut it down.
Then at some point they break even, followed by it costing them to stay open.
Maybe if we politely and discreetly ask for the favor and even volunteer to take up a collection, then we can at least be assured of a specific closing date and then be able to send the old DU out on a positive note.
This rather than having an arbitrary hangman's noose around our necks, not knowing when the plug will be pulled.
Hope I'm not terribly out of bounds with this idea.
It only involves 15 more days.
Thanks.

It's cute when DUmmies think Skimmer cares what they think or want.

1. I would be willing to pay extra for DU2.
It would be worth it.
Iif that's the case, you can pay even more for Skimmer's sanitary landfill.

2. I guess we can sleep on it, then figure out what to do.
ATA doesn't seem to work any more. Last question answered on Dec. 3.
Maybe an email to admin sometime soon. Even tomorrow, cause not sure about cutoff.
I know I'd be willing 20 bucks or so if that's what it takes. Just to buy some time.
Guess I need to make some type of contact with them tomorrow and see.
Oh well, worth a try in my view.

3. I advise against agreeing on a date certain for withdrawal
There is no need to even contemplate sch a thing. I think we're going to keep DU2 running indefinitely, particularly if we pay our way and don't undermine the presidency.
I agree with DUmmy Cronus Protagonist.
The worst thing that could happen is for a handful of crackpots on an obsolete message board to undermine the presidency.

5. I like that idea
I would pay.
Music to Skimmer's ears.
Maybe it's just me, but I've seen a lot of Spongebob, and to me Skimmer is a dead ringer for Mr. Krabs.

10. The only reason to stay here is because some can't make the transition.
* Can't afford to -- can't tolerate the nag-banner ads and second-class treatment
* Don't want to pay 4x extra for fewer options (less personalization, more methods to block other peoples' posts etc.)
That being said I'd rather politely ask Skinner to leave a forum open here.

12. Yep, that's true for everyone on DU2...
DU3 has new restrictions on signatures (entire sig line can be no more than 100 px high, pic included, no personalized avatars (except for those submitted by the DU3 testers, of course!) off-topic posts get hidden instead of moved to the proper forum and a jury system for hiding posts and locking members from posting in that thread (or banning them on a forum by forum basis) if their post is hidden by a 3-2 jury decision at the request of any user.
Oh, and it has a $60 flat fee to pay for DU. No donations accepted. Non-members lose many privileges, including ability to set "classic" view, ability to hide social media icons (the ones that contain adbots) and getting chosen for jury duty.
Well, now this DUmbass can't go to the new DUmp even if he wants to. He'd be an immediate target for the new Gestapo team.

15. I don't think we should set a date for closure
I think we should ask that it be kept open indefinitely.

19. Maybe we could purchase and run it ourselfs.
Great idea! Inmates can buy the asylum and run it "themselfs".

What is this primitive obsession with advertisements?
One can always ignore the advertisements.
I don't get it.

What is this primitive obsession with advertisements?
One can always ignore the advertisements.
I don't get it.
A couple of reasons.
They want to believe that everything is about and for them and the advertisements are a nagging proof that the DUmp is still a business.
Even though they can use it without spending a dime their infantile jealousy resents that there is a "better" offering that comes with a fee and to them everything needs to be free.

I sort of agree with the DUmbasses on the ads. The new, Pay-to-Pay DUmp has more bright, animated, flashing ads, with the lunatic content squeezed into the center of the page. More ad-cluttered than the old DUmp.
Its appearance reminds me of a Japanese pachinko parlor.

But hey, the show's got to be paid for, somehow.
Even if DU3 were 90% covered with advertisements, I'd find it easy to ignore them and concentrate upon the primitives.

22. Saw a post once
That said DU was worth millions. Multi millions. Above ten millions.

The ads are a stupid excuse. Use Firebox and AdBlocker. No ads!

no personalized avatars
Wait, what? Skimmer is infringing on their First Amendment Rights to Free Expression! The Constitution trumps all, doesn't it? Including the message sent when pooping on a cop car! Including all dopey message boards! OCCUPY.
-
The last person leaving the DUmp, please turn off the lights. :lmao:
