Quaker Oats just heard from me.
Now Walmart will. Jesu. Just came back from town after a long morning of time at the doctor's office with a couple of stops for other shopping. I haven't shopped much for the past 6 weeks since I broke my shoulder and did not drive further than the local physical therapist. I am at the point where I can now start with strength exercises. Anyway, I stopped at WallyWorld to pick up a few staples and we needed oatmeal. Just plain oatmeal, which I buy in the large round container. Quaker Oats is just up the road, not 30 miles away from the store or my home. A large container of oats was more than $4, with the store brand priced at $2+ -- more than double. I bought the store brand which was not my first choice, but $4+ could almost buy a package of chicken or 2 loaves of bread or a bottle of floor cleaner. I don't buy the ad costs or packaging or transportation. For a product that is produces in the state and so close to the source of production, there should not be that type of pricing. Free market BS.
This is really irritating me and if you think that it should be not such a big deal, it is just one of the insults on basic living expenses today. Not asking for gold bathroom facilities or mink bedspreads or bling. Just asking to be able to afford food and shelter. That is the least this nation can assure people, especially from the classes jerks at the top who have bled everyone else dry so they can light their fancy cigars with $100 bills.
Oh, and then there was the bit on NPR where they assured us that Americans have gotten used to the idea that they will not retire at the customary retirement ages and must sacrifice.
Thanks for listening.
Like a child when a TV show gets pre empted, the things they have a tantrum over. ::)

Yeah, the skidmarked underwear primitive, the disconsolate older middle-aged farm-wife from eastern Iowa.
She whines a lot.
It probably doesn't occur to her that those are oats from Hungary, and not from Iowa, and hence hefty transportation costs that add to the price.
Oats from Hungary are cheaper than oats from Iowa, and if Quaker Oats wasn't buying the cheaper oats and thus keeping the cost of its product down, primitives like the skidmarked underwear primitive would be yelling-and-screaming about "high" grocery prices.
If it's that big of a deal to her, perhaps she should grow her own oats.

What balderdash!
No one I know ever uses more than a twenty to fire up a stogie.

Silly, knave.

I hope she gets a response along the lines of "Due to federal regulations, we must follow x and y rule, which adds a total cost of $z to each of our products. Your complaint is misdirected."

I dunno what the deal is about oats.
I mean, how many oats does an average person eat in his lifetime?
Especially since Malt-O-Meal's better.
I have one of those cardboard cannisters, the smiling Quaker on the label, in the refrigerator, which I bought back when George Bush was in the White House, and times were so good one could afford to spend money on sheer frivolities. I'm sure I will some day, but I haven't even opened it yet.
-
I'll bet they are quaking in their boots.
-
What would happen if the 99% get their way?
No more Quaker Oats, real or generic. No more Walmart, Kmart or even their champion, Cosco.
-
Oats....ain't that what jackasses eat?

Oats....ain't that what jackasses eat?
Horses. Both with and without a name.
-
I can see how she may be a little upset. It is going to cost more to feed that high horse she has.
-
Quaker Oats gone down hill since the rigged Quisp vs. Quake election of 1972. Stolen for Quisp by BushCo!
I don't have any evidence of this but I said it on the Internet so it much be true!

The skidmarked underwear primitive's one of those sad-faced wringing-hands melancholy older women who's upset and bent out of shape because life didn't turn out the way she thought it should.

That's how clueless these primitives are. This Primitive DUmmy just demonstrated the free market at work by purchasing the store brand instead of the overpriced Quaker brand, and yet still is clueless that the free market was at work here! LOL

Maybe she's supplementing the cost of transportation so her fellow liberals in NY or Cali can have Quaker Oats too. Surely she isn't suggesting that her good fortune of living up the road from the Quaker Oat Company should allow her to benefit in any way over other individuals, who through no fault of their own, don't live so close. I mean, after all, that would be unfair for her to score Quaker Oats for a lower cost based on her good circumstances...tsk, tsk, Skids.

Quaker Oats just heard from me.
I'm sure the farmers are quietly weeping in their homes tonight over the loss.

I like the oatmeal packets that have apples and cinnamon in them, no way do I buy the brand name, I buy the store brand at Walmart and Aldi's and they taste the same as the brand name.

I have the brand-name, but again, I must ask, as long as Malt-o-Meal's available, who needs oatmeal?
-
She had a choice between $4 and $2 because of the free market she is bitching about. And why go off on Wal Mart? All stores have pretty slim proft margins on almost all the goods they sell. Sometimes only pennies per sale. They do well by selling a lot at the best price they can offer.
How do these DUmmies live so long without ever finding out how the world works?

Even at $4 oatmeal is one of the cheapest breakfast items out there. That extra money is to pay for Quaker's advertising costs, the fancier can design, etc, etc.
Does she really go shopping so rarely that she is surprised that generic is cheaper than namebrand :whatever:

Let's not forget that it also covers union labor costs. Probably the single most important reason for higher prices.

If 0bama gets a second term those oats will cost $10.

See here SIR, some of us were raised on oatmeal, a bit of sugar, milk and perhaps berry's in season or a banana.
We were the generation that went to school with a full belly and did not fall asleep in class due to low blood sugar or high sugar due to a school breakfast of Pizza and french fries.
Our parents did not leave us to be fed in schools, the poorest of the poor could feed a family oatmeal for breakfast, lunch and dinner, some did and the kids with 3 meals of oatmeat meal survived. ------" Please sir, more Porridge"
How are we or this poster to know where the oats come from, is it the duty of a woman to research the origions of where a staple comes from ??? Frank, do you know for sure where sugar and flour comes from?????
You Frank are too young to know that Oatmeal fueled the country's poor in the depression, where or how it came was of no import, just that the children were fed as were the the adults, at least we never ate our own as those did in Russia days of starvation.
When the staples of life flour, oats, milk, sugar and rice rise in price, then no one is as you say whining, they have fear of what next, price of corn meal to double, how to feed a family on basic staples---Frank, checked out the price of the most basic protin, Eggs lately????
This is not whining Frank this is fear, Obama has placed us in to an area of threat, to sell to other country's costs us big bucks to do so, and on the other side other sides charge us to allow us to import their goods.
This woman has every right to become alarmed at rising food prices Frank and can you tell me how many people know that Quaker Oats comes from Hungery ?????
BTW Dear Frank, you may buy a 10 pound bag of rice with Produced of Georgia on it, in the world of marketing, this rice may have been imported to a Company with headquarters in Georgia bagged and sent out of the plant, as a now product of Georgia, but it itself may come from most anywhere, this does not mean it was grown in Georgia.

I have the brand-name, but again, I must ask, as long as Malt-o-Meal's available, who needs oatmeal?
My Mom is fussy about it, she's fussy about all brand names, she never gives the store brands a chance.
-
Anyone here want to wager whether Quaker Oats is a union versus nonunion shop??
-

I would say they have to be union as they gave the 1972 election to an obviously illegal alien. Of course, Quake was a hard working, probably union, miner who later somehow became an Australian so definitely union because whoever won, they won.
-
My question is ...Why was she shopping at Wal-Mart? I thought Wal-Mart was the center of all evil.
-
Hey Skidmark, odds are the generic was packed and sold to Wally World by Quaker. They are probably laughing their asses off at you over in corporate!
:rotf:
-
Oatmeal: The only thing oatmeal is good for in my book is oatmeal raisin cookies.
...or cranberry ...or blueberry ...or....well cookies.

Here's one for the "Stupior-genuises" at DU to ponder.
I live less than 2 miles from a Pepsi bottling plant, yet I have to pay MORE for Diet Mountain Dew locally than I do at the same chain store 30 miles away.
Why is that?
(I won't mention when I worked at Pepsi, we could take all the close-dated and recently outdated product home we could carry, because they were going to dump it anyway. That is, all that wasn't donated to charity.)
