My Male Boxer puppy is 1 and 1/2 years old. HE is so hyper what can I do to calm him down
when it is just us at home, he is so calm and fun but whenever anyone comes over he jumps, spins in the air, pushes off of people. HE weighs 65 lbs and the only thing I can do is push him outside or take him to his room.
Would getting him fixed help? Will he outgrow it?
HE is so fun and lovable, I just need him to calm down a bit.
Saltpeter.

I think fixing him would help, eventually...
And exercising him certainly would. Boxers need a lot of that.
Ouch!!!

11. My mother has had fourteen boxers over the past ten years.

Most effective way of calming them down was a two-by-four.
And, yes, fixing will help calm him down. But not by much. Find an obedience class near you and take him through it. It will do wonders. He may stay hyper but will behave himself better.
Yeah, right.

14. thanks. WE had been debating about getting him fixed
View profile
he is a beautiful color and comes from good stock and thought he might make a good "stud" but hubby says he really doesn't want to deal with all of that. The vet also said that male boxers get testical cancer more frequent so I think before he is 2 we will have him fixed.
WE love his spirit and don't want to break it, we just want to not have to send him outside or to his room when we have company.
There is also a pet store that runs classes not far from where we live so we will check into that.

32. I have a friend who found doggy day care worked wonders.
View profile
It seems that her boxer was bored and lonely, so now goes twice a week to day care. He plays with all the other dogs, wears himself out, and doesn't feel the need for so much social time when people come over now.
And good lord, GET HIM FIXED. What are you thinking?!?!?!?!

37. hubby doesn't want to "take his balls away" and I thought he would make very cute puppies
View profile
yes we researched the breed, had one before and my FIL had one for 15 years. He was NEVER this happy.
We don't want to break his spirit, we love it. It is just a bit much when I am home alone and we get company.
He is a LOT of fun and so loving. He sits, shakes, catches things in the air, when we ask "who do you love" he puts his paw on our leg.
Hubby walks him and I used to think he was kind of strict when walking him but now I see he has been doing a good thing.
I think we are going to pick a class tho.
thanks for all the help!
Poor Pam. This has received more replies that all of her previous threads for the past two years....combined. And it's about Dog balls.
:lmao:
-
Prestone antifreeze.
-
Wait till the anti-circ crowd finds out she wants to de-ball the poor laddie. Hey Jeep just have the vet sew a couple stainless steel ball bearings back and hell be fine.

IIRC, Pammy already learned that letting your dog roam the street does indeed calm him down, eventually. Hopefully, this 'goggie' doesn't have to learn the same lesson in manners..

Prestone antifreeze.
:lmao: If that doesn't cool him down, nothing will.

Have his balls bronzed and put em on her key chain.

Hey, 'coon hunters used to put racoon penises on a hey chain and use them for tooth picks.....now of what use would a bronze set of dog balls be?

Anyone know what the average cost of getting a dog fixed and then what obedience classes would also cost?
Suddenly she is not so poor today it seems.

I still shudder when I think about the fact that she is teaching children. :thatsright:
Did you all notice that she got in another "I am better than you" post in here. See our Pammy doesn't have to go to the shelter for a dog. She can afford a purebred. A good show quality (not from a backyard breeder) boxer pup can go for thousands of dollars.

Sexual aid.

Pam would be throwing money away.
OK Pam. I'm going to educate you so your next Dog Bouncy has an element of truth to it.
I have pure bred Yorkies so I will use those as an example.
When you buy a pure bred Dog, you have two options. A purebred, AKC Yorke with breading rights is 1,800.00. The same Dog without breading rights is 1,000.00.
If Pam has a purebred Boxer with breading rights and has it fixed, she would be losing a lot of money.
Pam not knowing that leads me to believe that this is just another in a long line of Greenbriar bouncies.

A dog like that is easy to train. Too bad Pammy doesn't know how.
<----Learned from a police dog trainer how to train a behavior into a dog in five minutes or less.

She isn't. Not that she ever actually taught, but this year she was tossed out of Jardine Middle School, and relegated to an "alternative" high school, Gateway, which is for junior felons who have been expelled from the normal school system. Until they're old enough for state prison, they're warehoused at the "alternative" school, so Pam's like an assistant warden.
Pam never filled us in on why she was exiled. I guess it could have stemmed from her telling the world last year about the new assistant principal at Jardine being a lesbian who has a "wife". It could be that the new boss didn't appreciate the publicity.

It's probably in cahoots with the cat, which appears to have grown opposable thumbs to fire the Glock. The cat's providing security.

Damn. I had to go DUmpster diving before my 1st cup of coffee.
I recall where Pam said she had her CPL and carried a pink Taurus.

That's what I'm talkin' about!!!
But seriously, Pam? An 18-month old dog is no longer a puppy. It's a full-grown dog. And frankly, I've found that if you don't get them into some sort of obedience training by the age of 4-5 months, it only gets harder to train them the longer you wait. Yeah, I'm not one of those folks who can train a dog in five seconds, but I'm guessing some habits as a dog grows older would be harder to break.
You know, like bullshitting people. You'll never stop, no matter how many times you get called on your obviously fabricated stories of alternating personal wealth or chilling poverty, your dedication to your loving husband or cheating on the drunken lout with the pool boy/bartender/homeless guy downstairs, or your teacher of the year attributes where black children throw themselves at your feet begging to be your slaves/janitor of a warehouse of future felons.

Strange thread, goes from dog training to black children wanting to be her slave.
Boxers are a odd breed, I found a full grown female wandering about no Collier and half starved. I brought her home, to the vet, posted found dog in the news papers, no one claimed her. She was so mellow, fit right in with the family, we grew to love her.
She bonded to me and I took her everywhere, even to work. She slept in the hall outside the bedroom doors and the kids and I felt safe when Hubby was at sea.
We had her a year and a half or so when one day her owner saw us on a walk. She demanded the Boxer back, came to the point the police became involved, the dog would not go to or recognise the woman that claimed her.
What to do, the original owner had all kinds of papers to prove she owned the dog, or did she??
Court ordered I return the boxer to the original owner, this dog did not want to go, hell of a mess. We learned later the mild and calm boxer had bit her owner and put down.
Some day when I live in a place I can have this breed, I will go to the dog pound and try out an adult Boxer, no puppy's, seems the worse they are treated the more love and devotion they give to a new family.

janitor of a warehouse of future felons.
You should be careful about disrespecting Pam's inmates. These are not "future felons".
Many are honest-to-god actual felons, just too young to be imprisoned.
Archie and Veronica don't go to Pam's high school.
-
That's a sad story, Vesta. I'm sorry it happened that way. I believe I would have extracted revenge.
-
Speak softly and carry big plastic balls.

My deepest condolences to the new guy.

Vesta, all you need to know is the part where she was half starved. You gave her food. Dogs know and love the human that is keeping their belly full. My dog Mutt was the same way, except I found him when he was a puppy.
