Oh, crap. "Republicans basically in favor of payroll tax cut, but just want to save face."
IOW, for some reason, the rest of us will have to pay for the Republicans childish tantrums. They can't simply do the right thing without getting something in return...which seems to be the Keystone pipeline. First they say the tax cut must be paid for, but then, oh...uh...how about a big expensive pipeline that will help our oil friends instead? Nice principles you have there, GOP. Stand firm...for the corporations.
C'mon, Mr. President. Now is the to show us you're really in it to win it. Everyone is on your side. Stand up to the GOP -- the timing is the best you'll ever get. Tell the GOP to pass the payroll tax cut, with no Keystone add-on, or you'll finally whip out the veto pen and smite them with it.
Yeah...I'm probably dreaming.
Yeah, the evil twin brother's dreaming. Sweet dreams, Pedro.

1. Of course they are for it, it is their idea and a path to their brass ring.
If they were really against, it wouldn't have passed. Remember, this is the only stimulus they "would let us have".
You ever ask yourself why or if we were really going without them then why couldn't we pass something else?
It always has been, is, and always will be a trap and an obvious one at that.

2. no better way to con working folks into short-sheeting their own long term?
... then to tell them that the 'short term payroll tax cut' is a good thing? Never mind that Social Security will be broke down the road when they REALLY DO need the money ...
Of course the GOP is for it-but against it. I'm just so incredibly disappointed that POTUS, again, shows his right-leaning stripes.

4. The short-term tax cut can be overcome. The pipeline will be permanent and cost much more.
The GOP knows this, and they're counting on Obama to once again do the politically expedient thing even when he holds all the winning cards.

3. If I were to bet on what Obama will do. . .
he'll give in. . .
Too bad for the primitives.

How many permanent jobs will that pipeline create? How many permanent jobs, or jobs of any kind will anything 0bama has planned create?
They act as if a pipeline is going to destroy the world. :mental:

It's an OIL pipeline. It will make migratory birds change course, interrupt the grazing buffalo, offset the balance of the planet and send it spiraling out of control into the sun.
On top of that, it will lower energy prices, create jobs, increase government revenues, and make money for the EVIL oil companies!
Of course it will destroy the world! :runaway:

The evil twin's still more or less laid up from his foot surgery; I doubt he's been to work lately, unless via computer.

Pedro has yet to figure out that Dear Leader has to pay both sides of the fence. It is the Dems we're talking about here.
On one side the unions want the pipeline because they want the jobs. On the other side, the environmental whackos don't want the pipeline. Dear Leader has to figure out how to still get campaign money and votes from both sides. Easy way is to tell the unions he'll sign the pipeline deal after the election should he win (which he will do if he wins) and in the meanwhile appear to be on the side of the enviromental whackos and not permit it. Pedro has yet to figure out that's his plan.
The R's have forced his hand early. Let's see what he does.
Poor Pedro.

Whatever he ends up doing, he will blame the Republicans if anything goes wrong.
