It depends on the drugs they're taking on any given day.

5. In my ten years on the DU, I've noticed that almost every statement needs verification

You simply can't spew crap, like on Free Republic or FOX News, and have it go unchallenged. Personal opinions are open to debate, but statements and beliefs need to be backed up with facts and references.

I think we all benefit from this kind of peer review...

And in case you doubt me: Benefits of Peer Review

OMG!  That is just too funny.

When your "facts and references" are drawn from other, equally batshit crazy "news" organs and agenda-driven web sites, you're still living in a cocoon, any way you look at it.

Uh, a pinhead's peers are other pinheads.

How do you benefit from being critiqued by a bunch of pinheads?

Answer:  Is Dracula tolerant of sunlight, crosses, garlic, and holy water?

Are werewolves tolerant of silver bullets?

             Does Frankenstein like fire?

Did the Wicked Witch of the West tolerate water?  How did her sister tolerate a Kansas farm house
             being dropped on her head?

             Does Superman tolerate Kryptonite?

Seriously -- my stepson tells me today that he's decided not to get a job and is postponing college so he can:

1) Squat on abandoned properties.
2) Make public art.
3) Get food stamps.
4) Knit more.

This, after spending a week in the Seattle OWS camp.

It's hard for me to feel sorry for ANY DUer, but this parent is actually sane (and a potential pick up for us IMO), and they are absolutely destroyed.

I think that this fairly new DUmmy was somewhat stung by a thread he posted in the U.K. forum. It's the only one in there which I can remember causing any sort of squabble. The O.P. was some calm reasonable images from the Scottish National Party; the British DUmmies are all anti-Scottish independence (it would mean England always having a Conservative government), and they mostly leapt down his throat.

Yes, poor McGuire got shot out of the saddle in the first reply; something so awful it got deleted.

Aside and off-topic from that thread:  Does anybody else find it funny when a Brit uses the word "reckon?"  To me, it's a down-home American southern word.  "I reckon that cornbread's done 'bout now."   :lmao:
