Should there be a wealth tax on home ownership?
Advertisements [?]
To own and make monthly payments on a house requires a certain amount of good luck, a large income, and wealth.
If you can afford to make a large down payment, you have wealth. If you cannot make the large down payment, you have a large income in order to afford the large monthly note. In both cases you are lucky.
Once the house is paid for, should there be an additional rate that you must pay since you now have the big monthly payment amount available to use for other items. You are really lucky if you do not have to make that large monthly payment!
Should there be a wealth tax on house? At what price range should it begin and what should be the rate? Should it be a sliding scale so the more that is spent on the purchase, the larger the tax becomes?
One would think all good primitives would be happy to pay more taxes but funny how they really don`t like them when it is them paying.

1. No. You've paid for the damn house and you continue to pay property taxes.
That's enough, regardless of how wealthy you are.

30. What if said homeowner's didn't have children in that school system?
Have you thought about that? You're taxing them EXTRA for something from which they'll never benefit.
Dumbest. Idea. Ever.

13. Many homes may have been handed down from previous generations ...
... and the current occupant may be unemployed and/or disabled. It wouldn't be right to impose an extra burden on them just because of who their ancestors were other than the usual property taxes. They may not even have enough resources to prepare a decent meal.

23. Seriously. Let's just tax everyone for everything they have or
have ever accomplished in their lives.
Then we call live in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER.

Uhmmm...that is what all you DUmmies wish to do ON SOMEONE ELSE. :whatever:

21. I'm not particularly lucky, don't have a large income and am not wealthy.
I do own a home. Not a McMansion, mind you, just a regular old house without all the bells and whistles. My mortgage payment is half what rent would cost in the area and I'm already taxed up the wazoo for the privilege. If you can afford double my mortgage payment for rent, maybe you should be paying more taxes.
Not being a good socialist there DUmmy. :-)

36. He is probably still living at home with mom and dad
And is to damn lazy to get out and work enough to afford a modest house and is jealous for those of us that do. There is no way he is a home owner and come up with such a stupid idea.
:rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
This is the first time you have noticed this mindset on DU? ::)

38. Property taxes I pay for the value
....long after I pay it off, for the rest of my life. Isn't that enough for you?
It seems they all get very conservative regarding taxes when it is suggested they should have to pay them.
Useless hypocrites.

This, more than anything else, is what I despise about the libtards. You want the definition of "luck?" It is when preparation meets opportunity. I worked my ass off to get where I am and the things I won. Harder than most.
You want to be "wealthy" (like 60 freaking percent of Americans).
You want to own a home? Piut down the bong and the Cheetos and get off your dead ass, you freaking lazy sack of shit. And don't you EVEN start telling me you are going to tax me any further than you lazy socialaist bastards already are!

I'd love for this person to come and live my life and tell me I'm wealthy. :whatever:

2. Not a fan of the hate-the-rich thing that's popular on DU....
... Progressively tax, and more or less let it go, people.
Taking money from people just because they have it is the mindset of a thief, not of a progressive.
No shit genius. Although you'll be TS'ed for that counterrevolutionary, far-right comment. :whatever:
-
Standard libtard mindset:
You have something I don't have therefore you need to be taxed.
-
I'd love for this person to come and live my life and tell me I'm wealthy. :whatever:
If you ever want to have someone tell you have wealthy you are, just marry a divorced man. His ex will be happy to explain to the courts just how wealthy you are and how poor she is. :bawl:
-
Standard libtard mindset:
You have something I don't have therefore you need to be taxed.
And never, ever..."I have something, I should pay higher taxes." :-)

I know a way to not have to make a down payment, but the DUers lack the backbone to do it.

It turns out you can't buy a farm with that, unfortunately, I had to cash in the liquid assets to muster the 20% downpayment for mine, so I never have used that particular bennie.

You could build a new house on the farm I believe.
Great benefit, allowed me to get a decent house when rentals didn't offer anything worth a damn in my range. Unfortunately the location is not agreeable to the wife. Luckily I can pound a hammer so we will make out alright on the resale.

Well, basically even though the DVA does guarantee the loan, the lenders will only lend if the mortgage can be resold on the secondary mortgage market which is their primary concern in any lending these days as opposed to actually keeping the note themselves. To me it seems like the tail wagging the dog but that is apparently how the mortgage market works.
It wasn't a stopper though, I had the 20% and could afford a 20 year note on the rest. I've been paying off principal quite agressively and expect to be done in well under 15.

The "property is theft" crowd.
No one should own "anything" - it should all be part of the commons.
The whole site is the "property is theft" crowd, dumbass.

Low post count and challenged the primitives to put up or shut up regarding taxes and socialistic ideals.
Proved they only like them (taxes) when someone else is paying the price.
Guessing that maybe the hypocrisy shown here was brought to the mods attention over there so they shut it down.

Nice to see the Mods and most of the DUmmies are in completele denial about what their elected idols want to do to them.
Orange showed them the future under a democrat President...and the DUmp was frightened.

The wine is kicking in and I really don't care to read past the quote. I'm sure it would be a waste of time ...
In response, f*cktard ... I'll give you LUCK, since I did buy a government repo 11 years ago (not months ago, since idiots over estimated/spent their monthy budget!) Yeah, I'm lucky that:
1) I found this place
2) bought it cheap and doubled it's value
On the "large income" and "wealth":
1) I'm by no means someone who has either, I'm Ms. Average American, not even considered middle class
2) I'm half lit and don't really care what you think
-
There probably isn't one of those DUmbasses that would have done the work my wife and I did to our previous townhome, that allowed us to sell it at a big profit, and buy the lot our home is on with cash with a little left to put down on the home itself.

If it's in a good area, that's the thing to do. We bought our townhome for about 82K, fixed it up, and sold it about 4 years later for 135.

I'd love for this person to come and live my life and tell me I'm wealthy. :whatever:
Kind of my reaction. Not wealthy. Owned free and clear, like the older cars in the driveway, but not wealthy. And property taxes keep going up, cost of insurance and maintenance keep going up, and we're near retirement age. So when did we become "wealthy?"
And now some lardbutt who begrudges the fruits of our lifelong labors wants a piece of it rather than work for his own? :censored:

Yeah, basically.
-
I'm a slow learner sometimes. Here, after all these years of thinking I owned a bunch of stuff, it finally dawned on me; I've only been renting it from the government (property taxes).
-
I wonder if the DUmmies would be happy if their moms and dads charged them part of the property tax for living in the basement?
