5. What's really pathetic is that it received only 3 replies. Oh yes.... Democrats are sOOO much more involved in preventing homelessness.

But bobbolink has not vanished from the face of the earthwide web:

The poor people's march was different from the Occupy movement... the former was about poor people, and the latter is about the middle class. In fact, all we have been hearing for years now is about the middle class. As Cornel West and Travis Smiley have said, "We need to hear about P-O-O-R, we need to hear the word P-O-V-E-R-T-Y."

The "99%" is about the inequality between the very rich and the middle class, and those are the issues being raised. A good example... the outrage about the police brutality and the arrests. HOMELESS PEOPLE have been suffering this for a lot of years, but there hasn't been any outrage about it.

When the middleclass actually includes us poor folk, and HEARS us, THEN is when it will come together.

Just saying "Solidarity" and leaving us out is a sham.

I so much appreciate seeing articles like this, acknowledging the pain felt by so many of God's Children in the US.

HOWEVER, I must strongly speak up for the one section of this population that is continually ignored: DISABLED people. We commonly hear of "the working poor", which leaves out all those who are too old, too sick, and too injured to work.

By leaving us out, you are consigning us to continual hopelessness, and prejudice. By leaving us out, the "solution" continually spoken of is JOBS. Since that will never help us, we are left with no where to turn.

PLEASE, do some strong informational articles on DISABILITY. I can certainly share a wealth of information to help you!

THAT is the gift we have to offer... our experiences and the knowledge we have gained of the true situation of those on the bottom of the ladder who have nowhere to turn.

signed... "one of the least of these"

In my experience as a person in poverty in the US, people in this country are much more comfortable speaking of poverty in the rest of the world.   They are more compassionate towards those in the "third world countries".  To them, we poor people in this country are just whiners and lazy.

We need, obviously, to care for both.

But, I repeat... in my experience, affluent people in the U.S. really don't want to REALLY know what life is like for us poor people within the borders of this country.

There needs to be a LOT more education about realities *here*!  The ignorance, in churches and semiinaries alike, is HUGE.

That ignorance is causing a tremendous amount of pain, and there is NO advocacy group that is really addressing that bulk of ignorance.

Re: What's your story?

I was emotionally abused and neglected as a child, with the resulting low self confidence. I married an abuser, and it took me a while to "get" that it wasn't my fault. As I have gained in self-confidence, I see more and more just how much abuse there is in this society. Very distressing.

However, what I am looking at now is the "help" agencies for poor people. One would think these places, especially those run by churches, would be caring and supportive, but the opposite seems to be true. Using your checklist for abuse, many of those characteristics would be experienced just in trying to get assistance. Many of us have seen this, and figured we would be better off to starve rather than to have this inflicted on us.

I don't think this is something that is very much recognized. I have only found one article about this, and would like to find more. Since we poor people tend not to be believed, it is very helpful to have backup resources to refer people to.

Any suggestions along this line would be helpful. It is bad enough to be poor. It is miserable to be poor and harmed everytime one goes for "help".

No mention of the child that was "kidnapped"?

That's what struck me as well.

Imposter! The dearly departed and liquified DUmmy bobbolink dripped through the rusted Buick floorboards last summer.
