Is it appropriate for a White person to call a Black person --- Uncle Tom?
Edited on Tue Dec-06-11 08:37 AM by trumad
I ask because of this article about a Black student in South Carolina displaying a confederate flag in dorm room window.
Does this even merit an Uncle Tom designation?
To me it is a jaw dropping racist article on CNN.
Hey lookie here---we found a Black guy who loves the confederate flag and doesn't want to be called an African-American.

2. No, but "idiot" or "jackass" would be.

9. It doesn't matter how much melanin floats around in your body
... "Uncle Tom" is a pejorative where race is central. When it is used, it is meant to be hostile, dismissive, and demeaning.
No, it is not appropriate
Interesting given what a Google search finds.

It is never appropriate for one person to be able to use a term/word that another may not. That is discrimination.
