House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding back some information on Republican Newt Gingrich that could detract from his presidential campaign, according to a report published Monday.
“One of these days we’ll have a conversation about Newt Gingrich,†Pelosi told Talking Points Memo. “When the time is right. … I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff.â€
Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House, worked with Pelosi in Congress from 1987 to 1999. Pelosi also served on the ethics committee that investigated Gingrich for tax cheating and campaign finance violations in the late ’90s.
Gingrich filmed an ad with then-House Speaker Pelosi in 2008 to urge action on climate change, which haunted him early in his presidential bid this year. Gingrich called the ad “probably the dumbest single thing I’ve done in recent years†last month.
Republicans in Congress have been slow to rally around Gingrich’s rise to front-runner status in the polls, with former GOP colleague Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.) stating publicly over the weekend he is not “inclined to be a supporter†of Gingrich due to that past experience.

Were they slacking off at their jobs, or is she just talking smack now based on having privileged access to his records back then, even though they didn't find anything juicy in them then?

That information wasn't released back then because they wanted to wait until it could be used when it would be most beneficial to their cause.
I admittedly would've done the same thing.
For all we know about Newt now, how damaging could it be....unless he paid to have a baby aborted or something.

First of all I’d like to thank Speaker Pelosi for what I regard as an early Christmas gift. If she’s suggesting she’s gonna use material she developed while she was on the ethics committee, that is a fundamental violation of the rules of the House and I would hope members would immediately file charges against her the second she does it.

Pelosi Not Sitting on Trove of Gingrich Secrets
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi now says she is not sitting on a trove of opposition research on former House Speaker-turned-GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich.
But this afternoon, Pelosi’s spokesman, Drew Hammill, suggested that her comments have been misconstrued beyond the leader’s intent.
“Leader Pelosi was clearly referring to the extensive amount of information that is in the public record, including the comprehensive committee report with which the public may not be fully aware,†Hammill wrote in a statement.

Why should the members of the HOR have to wait to file the ethics complaints? To me, her statement constitutes a threat of action and implies that she has "dirt" on Newt. Considering that the so-called dirt came from a protected source, shouldn't implying that it exists be enough to warrant a complaint? Further, do members of the ethics committees sign non-disclosure agreements? Could someone consider this to be a violation of an NDA?
