Why are they having to propose such extreme measures to, in their words, “keep the movement alive All I’ve been hearing from them for the past three months is how popular they are and how they represent 99% of the country and how they “aren’t going anywhere". What gives?

Occupy Wall Street Hunger Strikes Begin as Occupy Portland Camp Shut Down by Police

Some Occupy Wall street protests throughout the country are taking desperate measures to keep the movement alive as only a few camps across the country remain open.
In New York, which was the original birthplace of the movement, protesters have started a hunger strike and hope to move to a different plot of land since they have been barred from Zuccotti Park.

'I am definitely worried about being hungry and being sick, that’s definitely crossing my mind but I am more worried about people being apathetic,' Mr Ibanez told ABC News.
'If we do get arrested, which seems most likely like we will be, we will continue the strike in jail,' he continued.

Oh, and is this going to be one of those “rolling hunger strikes†where one person “starves†for 8 hours and then passes it off to someone else, or one that considers drinking several fruit smoothies a day a “hunger strike†a la Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink?

1. The problem with hunger strikes is that
they only work, if the people you are protesting against care what happens to you and that is clearly not the case here.

7. The point is to shame those who would react that way.
I have no idea how effective this will be, but that's how hunger strikes are supposed to work. Many Americans who haven't paid much attention have been shocked by the police tactics, including conservatives and "libertarians."
Why should I give a shit about someone in control of their faculties who purposely starves themselves to make a shallow political point? Knock yourself out. Go full retard. Who am I to stop you from martyr-ing yourself for your cause?

Oh now.

The hissyfit primitive looks like he could use a little bit of a hunger strike himself.

Aw, man. If you can't behave like degenerate hippie trash in Portland, where else is there?
Bummer, dude.

They have about 99 Bobby Sands and then I will start to be impressed.

Well, DUmmy, you've decided that you protest in my name without consulting me, and I don't give a damn what happens to you. So, what now?

Being left to starve to death was good enough for Terri Schiavo, so it's good enough for these idiots.

As long as Drale has a can of Rust-Oleum, he's not worried about food.

1 of the benefits of a hunger strike? no poop.

It will also keep the real homeless and other street people from mooching their donated gourmet food.

Guess again. In a REAL hunger strike they get a very nasty superise on the forth or fifth day.
-

I'll see you your 99 Bobby Sands', and raise your 99 Karen Carpenters . . . Even though, technically, Karen Carpenter wasn't on a hunger strike, as she wasn't protesting anything.
-

And, for that matter, keep the opposite from happening: It'll keep the Occupy freaks from barging into homeless shelters and demanding that they be given food that was supposed to be given to real homeless people, as has been known to happen sometimes.
In all seriousness, one of two things will happen:
1) They'll cheat on it.
2) They'll give it up in less than a day.
-
What a novel way to acquire a foodstamp card.
-
Let them starve. Most look like they could loose a couple of Big Mac's and Quarter Pounder's w/Cheese without even feeling it.
Make it easier for the cops to carry them out next time.
-
That's not a hunger strike...one is a fast and one is a diet :lmao: Well, I guess the fat OWSers might actually drop a few pounds so something good will come out of it. Too bad the fat in their brain isn't effected. :-)
-

OH Thundley, this is so unfair of you.
Terry had NO choice, it was her Husband and his girlfriend that had children together that saw the insurance money was running out and had to have her put down in a worse way then a sick dog.
A hunger strike can be stopped at any time by those willing to give it a try. Few last more then a few days, the agony is just more then they are willing to endure for most any cause. Suddenly survival of self becomes more important then anything else in the world.
If these people want to give it a try, let them, just be sure to walk past them waving a Big Wopper in the air so they can smell it. Make sure you have a barricade of cops around you because on the 6 day, they will attack you en mass for just one small bite.

For Schiavo, I heard that Michael and his girlfriend wanted to get married (This "Loving, devoted husband" had several children with that woman while Terri was comatose), but he couldn't because he was technically still legally married to Terri, and getting a divorce would mean that Terri, or rather her family, would have the rights to alimony payments from him. But, with Terri dead, Michael (The "Loving, devoted husband" whom a nurse overheard saying "When is that b&&&h going to die?") was free to marry his floozy and keep every cent.
btw, yeah, I'd imagine torturing the hunger strikers in that way would be a lot of fun. Maybe set up a big barbecue grill, cook up a lot of prime cuts of meat, and have a high powered fan blow the smell right into their faces!
-
They don't have the cahonies to do a hunger strike. They will start crying and then lying while they shove food into their mouths in their little Coleman's tents. They are pansies.
-
It will last as long as one of those super geniuses decides to light up a joint.
Can't hunger strike when you have the munchies. :rotf:
-
What happens when you DUmpmonkies figure out that the people you're trying to convince really don't give two shits if you die?
-
It is funny these people have to go on a hunger strike to keep their movement alive. Yet the TEA PARTY movement is still going strong without all the drama these people put out.
-

Eight hours? No way! They'd miss a meal. I expect they'll have a signup sheet for four-hour shifts.
The really dedicated revolutionaries may sign up for consecutive shifts, with just an hour break between shifts for a reuben and a doob.
-
I'll take the 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift.

4. I say do it. The more the veil comes off the government, the more
people will have to face the truth of what this country is and is not.
Solidarity.
So, Arctic Dave, I presume by your statement of "Solidarity" you will be participating? Please keep us informed.

Well, April is exactly right. Potheads can't do hunger strikes.
I saw on the news, a short snippet about the Denver OWS. The snow was flyin, coming down hard. They said they were going to stay. The camera zoomed in on a pathetic soul underneath a tarp/tent. One miserable eye peeked out at the swirling snow. I laughed, cuddling up in a warm bed with a cat. Drank coffee & had some toast. :lmao: Smelled bacon cooking downstairs.

Is this gonna be one of those Cindy Sheehag 2500-calorie per day "hunger" strikes?

The thing that outrages me to no end is that the Church Michael and Terry attended had nothing but praise for the husband and girlfriend, the daughter of one of the Deacons. All the baby showers they had for his girlfriend each time she popped another Bas****d and congratulated the Adulterous husband.
Wasn't 't until a couple of weeks ago that I began to understand some of this when that world wide famous televangelist said that there was no reason a husband/wife could not get a divorce from a partner that had Old Timers or was too ill to be a functioning wife/or husband.
WTF, even our most Conservative Faiths are now going Liberal, reprehensible. I do not care what they call themselves, no way they are teaching Christianity any more.
Some one up stream has a great idea, allow the OWS lots of POT, then count down each person as they run for a hot dog waggon. Charge them $20.00 per dog, their daddy will send them the money.
-
It wouldn't take much of a hunger strike to put some of those pasty, malnourished vegans in the hospital. I'll believe it when a bunch of them start showing up, brought in by the cops - doesn't count if they wander in themselves looking for food, that'd just be their typical mooching.

Until the OWemeS start lighting themselves on fire like the Vietnamese monks, I will still only point, laugh, and make fun of them.

And once they do start lighting themselves on fire like the Vietnamese monks, I will still point, laugh and make fun of them while reaching for the marshmallows.

That would be a waste of marshmallows. I'd rather eat ones cooked over a burning tire. However, I'd point laugh and make fun of them while reaching for the lighter fluid/gas/kerosene or whatever.

I could always light them on fire, and chuck them at other hippies like sticky grenades. Spreading the warmth, as it were.

Someone say, "hunger strike?"
