Era of one term presidents. If we are heading into that area, it is not unprecedented.
1837-1869 (32 years)
Martin van Buren to Andrew Johnson
Broke by Ulysses S Grant in 1869
However, Grant would be the only two full term president
1877-1901 (24 years)
Rutherford B. Hayes to William McKinley
Broke by Theodore Roosevelt after McKinley was assassinated in 1901. Grover Cleveland was president on two separate terms, not consecutively. I do not consider Cleveland a two full term president as a result.
1921-1933 (12 years)
Warren G. Harding to Herbert Hoover
Broke by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was the longest serving President.
1961 to 1981 (20 years)
John F. Kennedy to Jimmy Carter
Broke by Ronald Reagan.
It is rare to see more than one two term president in history. We had two two full term Presidents with Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. There were three two full term Presidents with Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe.

FDR probably couldn't do anything sexually in a normal way so he was reelected several times...Right? :-)

Technically, Nixon was a two term president since he was reelected. He just didn't finish his second term.

They didn't have Diebold back then, so it doesn't matter.
Anyway, the point I want to make is that you have to be a total f*up to only serve one term in modern times. Johnson was so bad, for instance, he didn't run for a second term. Ford and Carter, likewise, while GWH Bush was basically coasting off of Reagan but governing like Ford/Dole/McCain/Romney.
If we have a candidate who, at the end of the day, governs with in a consistently conservative manner, then he / she will be reelected. It's that simple; Ronald Reagan drew that map. More importantly, however, is for the president to maintain the consistency so that Congress maintains a conservative bent as well.
The newer conservatives will be more Constitutional, by the way, which may actually seem LESS conservative in many ways but actually lead us to a more consistently American "keep your hands off my money and stop snooping on me" era.

A bit premature to call it an 'Era.' Even aside from the fact the incompetent dope could still get re-elected, these things are one-offs every four years that have everything to do with the man and the times, and little if anything to do with trends of tenure.
