'Occupy' flash mob fails to impress Walmart workers

A two minute “flash mob” by members of Occupy’s Santa Ana contingent left some Walmart employees feeling disrespected and confused.

“We believe that it is wrong that the corporation you work for is making you come in to work in the middle of the night when you should be at home with your families,” the group chanted in unison. “It is wrong that their profits soar while you struggle to make ends meet. … We strongly urge you to call in sick on Black Friday.”

The group then marched out of the store chanting “We are the 99 percent.” At least one shopper joined the group and marched out with them, pumping her fist in the air.

I'm getting real tired of of all the news stories about how evil corporations are making their workers come to work on a holiday.   At Disney where I work, the first thing they tell you when you are interviewing is "we work while other's play".  If you can't handle that, then don't work there.  As for me, I am more than happy to go in for an 8 hour shift today and get paid for 16 hours.  My family and I have adjusted and are having Thanksgiving at noon today before my shift so what's the problem.

Have these occupy idiots stopped to consider that these workers just might welcome the opportuity to work and pick up a higher holiday rate as well and don't need the occupiers to protest for them?  I guess since most of the occupy crowd don't have jobs, they don't understand the concept of working for your own keep.

Newsflash to DUmmies.  I work a lot of holidays, nights, and weekends.  And you know what?  I understand it's part of the job.  I also like the OT on top of holiday pay, making it effectively double time and a half, unless I defer the holiday.

Oh, and Santa Ana?  You might have gotten a better response had you chanted in Spanish.  Just sayin.

The place where I work is closed on thanksgiving and Christmas, the only two days that it's closed all year, but we still get paid.  On other major holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day), we get Double time and a half.

Technically our companies services are available 24/365, but they will tell customers that we aren't available until late on Thanksgiving and Christmas. In the course of the 22 years at the company, I have worked some hours on all 7 of the paid Holidays we get.  Some customers run non-stop year around, so we do to.

When I worked at the restaurant, the only days off we got were Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they weren't paid. We never got anything but straight time for working holidays. They were nice about it and didn't hold the 4 day workweek against your full time status.

Since I went to my current salary job, I work really strange hours sometimes. For instance I have to work this Sunday with not OT. No biggie... they pay me well and it is expected. I knew when I went into it.

Now as to the Walmart workers... shiiiite! They deal with the welfare parasites on welfare day. The flash mobs are nothing.

Go over and see the posted pic.   :rotf:   Unbelievably lame.   :lmao:  That's a "flash mob?"

Afterward, as the protesters drove away, a handful Walmart employees gathered outside the store’s entrance. One woman called the protest “stupid.” Another said it was “disrespectful.”

A third employee seemed to miss the protesters’ message entirely, thinking they were connected to an effort to unionize workers at the store.

“It’s not funny … it’s stressing us out even more,” said the woman, who declined to give her name.

Not much love in the comments.

I forgot to mention that there are a lot of people working long shifts and holidays and get very little pay for it. Not even overtime just so those weasles can go out and whine at how bad it is for them. Those people doing all of the work are our service members and they deserve a HELL of a lot more then any of the OWS types or their friends.
