We didn't hear a whole lot of discord between Russia and the U.S. during the APEC meeting in Hawaii. But at least one Russian journalist found something to be upset about.
Russian news anchor Tatiana Limanova gave U.S. President Barack Obama the middle finger during a TV segment about Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's appearance at APEC.
It appears, based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the exchange rate of the Euro posted at the bottom of the screen, that the newscast was aired on Nov. 11. The segment was uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 19 and has gone viral over the web.
In a no-nonsense tone, Limanova introduces the segment by saying Medvedev gave a presentation in front of APEC organizers. Then she notes that the Russian president is soon to be taking over APEC leadership responsibilities that were previously held by American President Barack Obama. It's when she says his name that she jabs her middle finger into the air in the traditional obscene salute.
Limanova works for REN-TV, one of Russia's largest privately-owned news channels. The Moscow-based network has a purported audience of 113 million.

Russian News Reporter Gives Obama the Finger
Do you suppose we could have her talk to Putin, who could put in a good word with Soros, to give Barry Soetoro THE BOOT as well?
-
It's right at the :15 mark, just about two frames, and it is not clear that it's her middle finger as opposed to a gesture with her index finger with the thumb alongside instead of rolled behind the fingers as we would do. It looks like a 'come on' gesture to cue the video, actually, not a spit in Obama's eye.
The Russians do have a variety of colorful hand gestures that are unknown over here, FWIW.

Don't be a party pooper!!!

I need photo evidence because that sure looks like her middle finger :bird:

I agree! It's the bird if ever I saw one!
-
Think whatever floats your boat, but going to instant you can actually see it, the light reflection doesn't look right for that to be her index finger instead of her thumb, alongside the raised digit.
-
I don't know much about Russian gestures, but I do know that "the bird" for us doesn't necessarily equate to the same thing in European/Asian cultures.
For example, the most insulting gesture a German can do is to twirl a finger alongside one's head, denoting the intended target/recipient is stupid/nuts/wacko. This is done chiefly while driving, which usually drives the target/recipient into an apoplectic rage.
Seems pretty tame to me, but that's the way it is.

Russians have a pretty novel one where they lay out one hand, palm down and fingers spread, and then use the other hand to raise up the middle finger of the splayed hand. It means 'Under the cat's tail,' or more literally 'Kiss the cat's asshole.'
:lmao:
Kind of along the lines of Eupher's comment, one of the most insulting things you can call someone in Russian is simply "Stupid clown," though they have the normal run of "F*** your mother" type insults as well.

Me too, Rebel.

Yeah, have to agree looking at the blow-up. But, as Eupher pointed out, whatever the Hell it really means there is probably not the same as here. I have been in some countries where I know I was told it was common to use the middle finger to point, and not to take it for something else, but I just can't recall which ones they were off-hand.

It's come out that it actually was a bird, but she was flipping off some of her crew because they were trying to throw her off. If you buy that I have some beachfront property down in Houston County, Ga. for sale, real cheap. They didn't deny the bird, but said that she, in front of, what, 120 million, was flipping off her crew? :bs:
-
...not that I give a damn. They should give her the Pulitzer for having the balls to do what so many of us would LOVE to do. ...and that sucks because I don't like Russians.

too bad she didn't say "sit and spin, Barack Obama"

too bad she didn't say "sit and spin, Barack Obama"
I can't follow spoken Russian that fast, it's been a very long time since I needed it, but for all we know the part before 'Barack Obama' could just as easily have been "...That half-witted pain-in-the-ass..."
:-)

They fired her.

They fired her.
Easy to do. Meanwhile, Putin angles to get his old job back.

They fired her.
Probably got a job offer from their Foreign Ministry ten minutes later.
