Oh my.
Actually another primitive inquired about this matter earlier, and my fellow alum gave the same response.

Is the previously prohibited term "gun nut" once again allowed in the gun forum?
I ask because I have alerted on such in two threads in the past week and the previously prohibited term was allowed to remain. The most recent can be found here:

If it is still not allowed why have alerts on the term not been acted upon? If it is once again allowed what other previously prohibited terms are now allowed?
Thank you for your attention.
I'll bet it's the iverglas primitive doing that.

1. The moderators routinely remove that phrase when it is aimed at DU members, but sometimes permit it to stay when it is not.

2. Odd, I remember that when it was decided that the term was not to be used it was a blanket enforcement as the term itself was found to be vulgar, insensitive, and inflammatory.
Is the same standard used for other vulgar terms? As I recall, vulgar terms used against mentally challenged persons, persons of color, and persons of alternate lifestyle are removed no matter the context. Why the change in enforcement of the vulgar term "gun nut"?

DUmmies don't even recognize "vulgar" terms.
I've referred to myself as a gun nut since childhood - got it from my Dad, who was also a gun nut.
I have never run into a gun nut who would take offense at being called a gun nut.
There may be gun nuts who consider the term an insult, but I've never met them.
It's what we are, and the DUmpmonkeys can shove it.
-
"Vulgar." How oversensitive can you get? How can these people stand each other and themselves? The term just means a big fan, that's all.
Like, almost all of us here are bacon nuts. Anybody offended? :panic:
-
It is a slur and offensive to the indehiscent community. :p

In other words, you should not call a fellow DU'er a gun nut but if you want to call a crazed, right wing freeper a gun nut that is ok.

I wonder which word offends them. "Gun" or Nutz"? After all, we wouldn't want to offend the fags in the DUmpster!

Been readin' the dictionary again, have we? Just exactly what does that mean? My spell checker says it's a non-word. heheheheheheh!

I had to find a fancy word for 'nut'.
-
So by $kinners definition its ok to call a stranger a dickhead but its not ok to call his children dickheads.

"persons of alternate lifestyle"
That's so gay.
