Why are there so many here that seem to totally hate OWS?
Edited on Thu Nov-17-11 12:02 AM by Zorra
Seriously. The venom, both subtle and direct, that is being spewed toward OWS is scary. Because freerepublic has this very same view of OWS.

OWS is a democratic movement basically comprised of concerned and aware progressives who are basically interested in promoting the labor friendly, egalitarian, corporate regulating, and humanitarian social policies that, at one time, were the province and principles of the Democratic Party.

I'm a lifelong Democrat. I find this naked hatred of a democratic movement disturbing and frightening. I could understand it if this were freerepublic.com.

But it's not. It's democraticunderground.com

Something is so very, very wrong with this picture.

So very wrong, in all the wrong ways.

So much of the funny...

Just maybe some of them realize you guys are nothing but lazy moochers that want everything handed to you without having to lift a finger or even make an oral request for it.

I am listening to Atlas Shrugged on CD right now, and WOW the similarities in thinking to these lazy OWS protestors is amazing. I listen to the book and sometimes I just have to look at the radio and say REALLY? WOW! These people are crazy, is this book where it all started? No it started way before this book was written. God they drive me nuts.

Because the Red Guards have become a liability for the Dear Leader, duh.  If you were really a 'Life-long Democrat,' I'm surprised you didn't get the memo.

Uh huh.

nadin's in her late 40s; she first voted in November 2000.

She may be a middle-aged matron, but she's a child yet, when it comes to having voted.

Therein lies the problem, and many more, of the whole "movement". Everything bolded (and more) has gotten us in the financial mess we are in now, you morans want more of it.

Why?
Let's see:
1. The Occupier's actions prove that, contrary to the claims made in their public releases, they have no problem whatsoever using vandalism and violence (Not just against police, mind you, but also against EMT workers and civilians) to achieve their goals. In fact, violence even breaks out among protestors randomly attacking each other, such as one Occupier who shot and killed another Occupier in a fight over a bag of weed.
2. The Occupy encampments nationwide have proven to be health/ sanitation nightmares, with such conditions as lice, respiratory problems, ringworm, and tuberculosis rapidly spreading among them and threatening to possibly spread to the rest of their respective cities as a whole (Especially with all the public urination and defecation the Occupiers have been doing outside their encampments).
3. There has been rampant drug use/ dealing among the Occupiers, which in turn leads to even more lawless behavior and several fatal drug overdoses.
4. The list of sexual offenses committed by Occupiers has been growing rapidly, from countless rapes to at least one Occupier arrested for trying to make some extra money by pimping out an underaged kid to pedophiles.
5. (And this is why the hate for them is growing at the DUmp) Their disgusting behavior is starting to make the Democrat Party (Whose politicians often openly expressed support for the Occupy Movement) look really bad, and possibly lessen Obama's chances of re- election. When something the DUmmies initially supported looks like it might be harmful to the Democrat Party, they tend to turn on it at the drop of a hat (i.e. dropping their support of Cindy Sheehan after she tried to run against Nancy Pelosi).

Because they know deep down the left can't control themselves and they resort to their old tactics of violence and hate and end up doing more damage to the movement.

19. I've considered doing that too.
My ignore list is up above 500, now. But every time I think of abolishing the ignore list, I notice someone in a thread replying to someone on my ignore list who has obviously said something stupid or blatantly right wing. The ignore list alleviates a lot of stress.

God forbid someone says something that might be slightly different than how you think.  Living in a bubble keeps you stupid.

The thread is taken up 50% by discussion of iggy lists.

After the usual communist drivel, a lone voice in the wilderness, a small business owner.

109. I don't want an end to capitalism
You can bet your ass I wouldn't work 80+ hours a week and provide a needed service to my customers if the end result was handing over the last decade of my life to someone else with a "thanks, but we'll take over now".

There's a huge difference between capitalism and crony capitalism or corporatism. I wish more people here understood that.

I hate crony capitalism/crony socialism too.  It corrupts absolutely.

212. I sympathize with much of what OWS stands for, but it's jumped the shark
I am tired of reading and seeing news of people flailing around trying to provoke confrontations with law enforcement, while I spend long hours busting my ass at work so I can support myself and pay high taxes which among other things compensate those law enforcement people.

Oh my.

I don't know.  The thread was so incoherent, so all over the place, I wasn't sure what if anything to bring over.  I do know that they do not get, what the rest of the country is seeing.

That thread is a perfect example of the black-or-white thinking that goes on an DU. The same dichotomous thinking they so ardently claim to be above. You either love OWS or you hate it. You're either on board with every tactic or you're a closet Rethug or disrupter. It goes along with the rest of their memes.

You're either for unfettered abortion or you want to enslave women.

You're either for massive wealth redistribution or you're a tool of the corporations.

You're either for drug legalization or you support the prison industry.

You're either for government controlled healthcare or you want to see people die.

You're either for massive government or you're an anarchist.

And the list goes on.

OWS was doomed to failure from the beginning for a variety of reasons, and even in the face of its crumbling the true believers will brook no criticism or suggestion of changing course. The reason for that is pure hubris. They came up with an idea, slapped a coat of quick-dri varnish on it and pronounced it good, and nothing this side of Hell is going to convince them it isn't the perfect plan because they themselves are perfect.

When it does die with a whimper, they won't blame themselves. Oh no, they are infallible. It will be because of the apathy of those too ignorant to follow them, the police state, the handful of naysayers within their own ranks, or some massive conspiracy on the part of the dreaded corporations. That is their arrogance and their disconnect from reality. I'm loving seeing them rip themselves to shreds over it.

In fact it's a primary characteristic of 'Authoritarian' thinking, of which they are always so willing to accuse Conservatives.
