Title: Screen Captures
Post by: SSG Snuggle Bunny on November 17, 2011, 08:08:49 AM
Today and the next few days will be lively ones. You'll see plenty of things that ol' Dick Skinner will want to flush down the memory hole. Oddly enough he'll keep the rabble, he'll just moderate their more criminal posts.

Frankly, that's a poor way to run as hysterical--er, sorry--historical a document as DU. We would not want future generations deprived of the true feelings and intents of OWS.

For this purpose screen captures will be an integral part of our hysterical--er, sorry--historical preservation.

1. Ensure the hysterically--er, sorry--historically relevant text is centered on your monitor screen

2. Open MSPaint (Programs > Accessories > Paint) or similar program

3. Return to the window with the hysterically--er, sorry--historically relevant posting; be sure the URL address field is in the frame

4. Hold [Ctrl] then press [Prt Sc - Sys Rq]; it should be located near your [Backspace] key

5. Return to your graphics program

6. Hold [Ctrl] and press [V] to paste your screen capture on to the canvas

7. Save the vile--er, sorry--file, preferably as a .jpg or .gif vile--er, sorry--file format

8. Share on the internet for future generations to admire and enjoy

NOTE: More advanced users are encouraged to crop their screen caps and save to web-friendly formats

Thank-you

This is important stuff, ladies and gentlemen; if you don't already know how to "screen capture," please learn; it's as easy as strawberries-and-cream.

I should point out that during the nominating and voting time for the Top DUmmies, the DUmpster does get shout-outs from the primitives on Skins's island.  Many of these shout-outs evaporate before decent and civilized people see them (due mostly to the Bayer aspirin primitive, a moderator over there who's alas especially vigilant and all-seeing), but sometimes one's gotten.

The next six weeks, best to always have a finger on the "Prt Scrn" button when one's hanging around Skins's island.

i think paint saves as a .bmp by default. thats makes a HUGE file so be sure to use .jpg or .png or .gif
and learning how to crop is just as important. no need to show everyone you have 8 windows of www.VagTastic.xxx open.

there are also programs that allow you to drag a box over part of the screen that automatically saves it as a capture.

and also be proficient using an easy image hosting site.

ive used photobucket for 7 years. it was better back in the day but still good.
you can set it up so it gives you the right code for where you want to post the image. just click it and it copies it to your "clipboard"

plus there is a firefox addon that allows to to right click an image from a website and you can upload to your account so you dont have to "hotlink"

By the way, if one uses photobucket, one's got to be sure to specify "private" rather than "public" album.

I have three photobucket accounts; two of them, Andyscam and dummiedestroyer, have always been private, and so no problem.

But when I set up a third account, EFerrari, I neglected to specify "private," and it has a picture of a slumbering franksolich on it, a picture the primitives would pay a king's ransom to get their dirty-minded grubby hands on.  Fortunately, a few weeks later, I discovered the omission, and EFerrari's now also "private."

you can make individual folders private/public.

Anybody on a Windows 7 system can save on valuable cropping and clipping time by using the Snipping Tool.   :-)

Oh now, sir, you know I'm a nice guy, but this is, uh, somewhat too much trouble to save a second or two.

I save my screen-shots on Paint, do the reducing and touching-up things, and then convert it to a jpg.

In, like, two seconds.

I'm partial to Irfanview, it's a free program that I have used for years.

I use an add on from Firefox. It's really simple.

Yep, the FireShot addon is great.  Very easy to use.

Since SnuggleBunny's reminder is meant to get those who haven't done this before, to learn how to do it for whenever they spot the primitives saying something stupid, this is the best.

Two steps, for beginners.

And then as those new to it get the hang of it, they can go on to the fancier stuff.

What are some ones you can recommend?

TinyPic (http://tinypic.com/index.php) is my favorite - very fast to get a pic online.
