A downstate teacher has been suspended after showing segments of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in his class.

Rhett Felix, a first-year government and law teacher, was suspended for six school days and will return on Nov. 28, Eureka High School Superintendent Randy Crump told the Tribune on Wednesday. Crump declined to confirm the reason for the suspension, other than to say Felix had violated school policy.

Mayor Scott Punke, a lifelong Eureka resident and uncle of a student in Felix’s class, said he joined parents who complained to the school after the students were shown segments from “The Daily Show” starring Jon Stewart. snip

“I did, because of the language and the sexual overtones that were included in the show that were being shown to sophomores in high school,” Punke said. “Many of the children don’t even have TVs in their houses because of religious beliefs.”

I sure admire you teachers out there who have what it takes to deal with parents like this on a regular basis. I admit that I could not do it. My hat is off to you guys.

1. I don't know how any teacher does their job

seriously, with major league nutcase parents and - WTF, Mayor Puke, her Punke???

If the teacher had shown them a segment from Hannity or some non liberal show all your heads would be exploding.

What is the educational value of The Daily Show?

Stay in school or you can end up like that clown Stewart.  :-)

Don't forget that DUmmies view both The Daily Show and DU as news sources.

And both are comedy shows, only one isn't meant to be comedy.

When did Comedy Central qualify as educational?

What next? Al Gore films in school?

If they had showed Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld, the DUmmies would be demanding a recall of the entire school board.

If they showed Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld, at least the kids would be entertained and maybe even see a cute kitten video.

Dont have T.V.s because of relgious belifes? Bullcrap. They might not have cable because it is one more expense. but evem if the kids dont have a T.V. who is this clown to undermine their parents wishes and show them shows they might not approve of?

I am on a kindle and half asleep. I will fix typos tomorrow.

We don't have cable, satellite or any other TV service because of religious beliefs.  Or rather because the manure on TV these days is something I don't want my kids watching.  Our TV's are hooked up to DVD, VCR, home theater and the computer so we can watch Netflix...and my 14 year old has never seen the porn and violence that passes for "entertainment" these days.

I've just read this thread straight after the one about some preaching in a skate-park...one of the rants on that thread was that a DUmmy (as a parent) knew what was best for its children. What's sauce for the goose...
