Obama Couldn’t Wait: His New Christmas Tree Tax (http://blog.heritage.org/2011/11/08/obama-couldnt-wait-his-new-christmas-tree-tax/)
President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees. >>>
Nobody is saying President Obama doesn’t have authority to impose his new Christmas Tree Tax — his Administration cites the Commodity Promotion, Research and Information Act of 1996. Just because the Obama Administration has the legal power to impose its Christmas Tree Tax doesn’t mean it should do so.
The economy is barely growing and nine percent of the American people have no jobs. Is a new tax on Christmas trees the best President Obama can do?
And, by the way, the American Christmas tree has a great image that doesn’t need any help from the government.
Hmm... does this guy know how to tap into the Xmas spirit or what?

Isn't "improving the image and marketing of a product" the responsibility of private industry, and not the government?
Who actually believes this new tax will go to promoting Christmas trees instead of just another tax that will go to support this administration's socialist agenda?

Obama Imposes Christmas Tree Tax (http://blog.heritage.org/2011/11/08/obama-couldnt-wait-his-new-christmas-tree-tax/)
President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.
In the Federal Register of November 8, 2011, Acting Administrator of Agricultural Marketing David R. Shipman announced that the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board. The purpose of the Board is to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry†(7 CFR 1214.46(n)). And the program of “information†is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States†(7 CFR 1214.10).
To pay for the new Federal Christmas tree image improvement and marketing program, the Department of Agriculture imposed a 15-cent fee on all sales of fresh Christmas trees by sellers of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52). And, of course, the Christmas tree sellers are free to pass along the 15-cent Federal fee to consumers who buy their Christmas trees.
Merry $mas

30-35 million Real Christmas Trees are sold in the U.S. every year.
Another $5.25 million sucked out of the citizen's pocket, and into the black hole of the state.
-
I guess separation of church and state really isn't all that big a deal when 15 cents tax for religious observance is at stake.
-
If this is supposed to help the Christmas Tree growers, wouldn't it make more sense to put a tax on fake Christmas trees?
-
Why not tax everything at 100 percent while we're at it. :mental: :mental:
-
I came in to post this; kudos that it is already here. This hits on so many levels of hypocrisy, it's hard to pick one first. I'll take a stab at it. Has this administration EVER uttered the word CHRISTMAS? Now they want to create a new bureacracy to promote the very symbolism of something they hate, and the buyers have to pay for it? Sorry, but, I have to stop before I :puke:

Has anybody read the fine print? Remember all the unrelated, extraneous stuff the Dhims sneaked into the HC and Stimulus bills?
-
Excuse me...but only congress can impose a tax. Unless this has been previously approved, he has no authority to do so...
-
No big deal. Muslims don't celebrate Christmas.

It's not a tax; it's a fee. Until it's challenged in court, then it's a tax. Or whatever word games stupid ass liberals play with their ever-changing terminology for "revenue enhancement."
Why do I get the feeling Obama has a friend who needs a job running the Department of Christmas Tree Promotion with a salary of $200K per year?

No kidding! Oh that sounds like a grueling job. In before dawn, out long after sunset, balls to the wall all day long. Then, a grateful nation provides a lavish retirement.
Why is the federal government inserting itself into religous observances? Shouldn't the DUmmies' heads be assplodin about now?
-
I hope someone shoves a CHRISTmas tree up Obama's ass.

Well, 14 cents of every 15 cents collected will go to administer the program I'm sure.

Jizya
Being a secret Muslim, this is just Obama's way to show the rest of the Islamic world he is sticking it to the Christians. :fuelfire:

Oh, c'mon guys. It's only a $0.15 fee/tax/assessment/gratuity/insurance/nice-thing-to-do-for-the-upcoming-Christmas-season.
You piss that much away on tinsel, for cryin' out loud.

It really is such a small tax that it won't deter anyone from buying a tree, and it won't affect me in the least. We've had the same fake tree for a few years now.

Bingo.
But the level of hypocrisy is stunning. The Christmas tree industry sanctioned, supported, subsidized, and underwritten by the federal government, which is fronted by a muzzie.
Who knew?

Redundant department of redundancy is redundant.

Yeah, and next year it will be $1 per tree, then $2. The amount doesn't matter, nor does it matter if it deters anyone. The point is our government is batshit out of control crazy with power and they never !@#$ing stop. Tax this, tax that, tax this higher, that some more. Blow the money on studies of gays' dicks.
A line in the sand has to be drawn. No more additional money for the irresponsible jerkoffs in Congress.

I understand all that, and that is their reason for making it such a small tax. This year it will be news, but in subsequent years when they raise the tax, it won't get much coverage. As it is, it isn't get much coverage.
-
The Marxist, muzzie lover in the WH does not believe in Christmas anyway.

Yep. Then, 100 years from now, when kids are learning about the second American revolution, they'll be told that it was fought over a 15 cent Christmas tree tax!

Until recently we all paid a hidden tax on our phone bills presumably to pay for the Civil War.
Ive heard that our all-knowing, all-caring, all big gov't Commissar has relented on the Xmas tree (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/11/obama-administration-to-delay-new-15-cent-christmas-tree-fee/) tax now.
Perhaps the 'sheeple' decided to bring a firearm to this barbecue ... for a 'change'.

Doesn't matter terribly much. There'll be another tax for another "thing" (internet sales tax being among them) just waiting in the wings......

This doesn't have anything to do with Christmas trees but last week I rented a car while visiting Phoenix from Wednesday morning through Friday afternoon. The car rental itself was $25 per day and I went ahead and paid for the full tank of gas, which was $49.00. That comes up to $99. My total bill was $178.00 with all taxes, fees, and crapola added on.
:thatsright:
-
The tax was killed today.
What I am wondering is why in the hell would the government be involved in this? If the tree industry wants to do their ad campaign couldn't they simply tack on a few cents in order to pay for this?
-
How difficult is it to sell a ****ing tree at Christmas?
Only the government would come up with an idea this stupid.

Phoenix and Las Vegas are the two worst cities for the taxes at rental car facilities. It's because those properties are located on airport property. Las Vegas has a 20% tax on all car rentals and any extras you buy at the counter.

Never forget; this is the same collective(ist) buncha grabasses that couldn't run a brothel/bar without driving it onto the rocky shoals of bankruptcy. Never try to determine the depths of stupidity a politician won't descend to; they'll break right through and keep going, every time you do.

It's the same philosophy that advocates having the government do for you -- whether or not you can do it yourself.

Is there ANYTHING these sons of bitches WON'T tax, or at least try to?
