Oh yes another Occupy report   Updated at 3:14 PM

Edited on Sat Nov-05-11 12:36 AM by nadinbrzezinski
(Some of us don't just walk the walk even if we are REMFers, and fully admit it, ok... this comment will make sense in a minute to those who know the meaning of this)

So today was raining cats and dogs, You gotta understand, sixty and soggy in San Diego IS cold. So after getting a bulb fixed in the car went over to the sports store and got a few ponchos (all that they had, all six of them) and a couple warm hats. Then I went down there, in between down pours... and came home in one.

So today I met a couple vietnam era vets. We started talking. One of them is not just a vet, but a POW. Where does he live these days since work is scarse? On and off in the streets, with his wife. He's a medic, so he's been keeping an eye on the health and safety of the camp. We struck a long talk and he and I talked to two City College Students. They are working on a school report (and a meeting has been had, where they intend to start an occupy city college group, idealistic kids)

So they were told what OWS is about. This idea of economic justice is resonating, especially when you talk about their student debt. They listened, and mostly tried to learn.

The second vet is another Bush vet... he is staying there as well, in between a few other problems. He is also having issues finding work, seems that as a vet it is even harder to find work, Nothing personal to all civies, but apparently, from what both say, being combat vets puts a certain edge to those actually interviewing them. And they are not there for themselves, They do not expect to see these changes, they are there for their kids. Oh and there will be a march of vets on DC.

After talking to the city college kids, Heinlein and Starship troopers came to conversation and how Heinlein was not writing fiction. Also the fact that all the critical injuries the PRESS is reporting have been vets, Apparently, and I have no way to confirm this... the night of the raid one cop kicked a young female occupier in the head, and the occupier is still at ICU. Don't ask me to confirm this, I have no way... just passing it along. Legal is involved already and our lovely press (especially locally) will not go there.

Of course the living accommodations are quite spartan and the city likes it this way, yet, they are five star, compared to what the vets had during their younger years in the bush, or as a POW. More on the accommodations. The city will not let them set up tents. But in their wisdom they have allowed them to use tarps. (I laugh at their wisdom)

As to food, they are now allowing a food table... and the grub today looked pretty damn good. Between my food allergies and I know these people need it more... which means I will need to bring them some fresh fruit... no, not kidding.

No, there was no GA... kind of the weather intervened.

As I got on the trolley I struck a talk with a couple from OH. Somebody lied to them, about SD weather. She was forced to retire due to all the fun and games, and we started talking of OWS at the meta level, They are angry and were surprised I knew about SB 5. But we all realize this is one of those years, Oh and while they have never been to a local occupy, they will go visit theirs when they get home... It is spreading.

Photos as soon as el cheapo and I can have a talk. Lens cover fell off, so either I get another el cheapo or risk the better rig.

For the record I was told that those of us posting these things online and tweeting and all that are also essential... but so were the supply folks... so be it. I will wear it proudly.

7. I am also documenting this   Updated at 3:14 PM

there is a feel to this that is not normal. One of those years.

Better do the dishes, seems mundane to be honest... and if I collapse I collapse.

I need to take notes on this as well. The Grapes of Wrath came to mind today, repeatedly as well.

There are 4 pictures at her link, 3 of them seem to be close-up photos of garbage.

In some of nadin's last few posts, she has inserted some mundane house frau tasks that she was gonna do. Do the dishes, earlier it was make bread. I think she is inserting these snippets as a counter punch to franksolich's "nadin's diaries" whereas the condo close up by the highway that serves as nadin's lair is always in disarray.

Wonder how nadin's ex-Navy better half is taking this. She never take's him with her to mix with the SD occupoopers, never stays overnight with OWieS, alway rushing back home to do housework.

Hmmmmm

For anyone playing the Nadin 'Bullshit Bingo' card, that post was a clear winner.

I dunno.  I suspect nadin's so full of herself she doesn't pay any attention to what other people say, only to what she spouts off.  If one were to ask nadin who franksolich is, she'd have to google it.

To my, that's the most fascinating thing about this whole saga of nadin.

I'm really intrigued about it.  Really.

Her husband, by his non-presence, is becoming the most fascinating character in all this.

One has only the knowledge that he's some modest reticent nice guy who served in the Navy circa 20-30 years, and is in his late 40s; also that he works at the post office.

And it's very likely he has no idea, no idea at all, what his wife is up to; has not the slightest idea.

The imagination scrambles around trying to paint a picture of him.

One wishes nadin would wax autobiographical, telling the primitives and us how they first met, what they found in each other, how they interact with each other, who wears the pants in the family.  The imagination conjures up all sorts of credible pictures, but it'd be better if one knew, rather than imagines.

Really, though, I think he'd been better off meeting and marrying an American chick, and nadin herself finding some other submarine officer, in the Mexican navy.

Well, I can help you out with that one.

Mr. nadin was a normal guy who had to spend months submerged with no company but a hundred-odd other male submariners. He alit on dry ground with only one thing on his mind, and found it in a liberal slut.

She found a ticket to citizenship.

In the latter case, nadin's reaction was probably similar with that of the LionessPryanka's reaction some years ago, when she "accepted" U.S. citizenship rather than "was given" it.

I'm of the mind that he doesn't exist.

We could shut down all these OWemeS camp outs if some innocent youngster would just put up a lemon-aid stand.  The LEOs wold be there in a NY minute and close it all down.

I had to do some work downtown this morning, so I decided to pay another vist to the Civic Center to see how the occupiers were doing.  Barricades have been installed to keep the filthy homeless people out of the Civic Center square, so they have moved to the sidewalk.

Two weeks ago:

Today:

It really is nothing more than a homeless encampment, with maybe 50-60 people laying around on tarps and nasty blankets at 1130 in the morning.  There are maybe 8-10 people who seem to be there for the protest and to serve hotdogs and shout "occupy!" every now and then, but that is it.  Here's a photo of the Peoples Library/hotdog stand:

The whole area smelled like urine, it's pretty disgusting.  I did not encounter any retired submarine captains, nor did I discuss Starship Troopers with any of the derelicts in the area.

I occupied Mama Testa (http://mamatestataqueria.com/) for a fantastic shrimp taco lunch on the way home.

How bad were they (the OWieS) hurting business there?

I read in the paper that a few street vendors had to move out of the area because they were being harassed for free food, but beyond that I don't think they they are having much impact at all. The portion of the street that they are on is primarily office buildings, no shops or restaurants.  They are definitely tying up a lot of SDPD, there were at least 20 cops standing around looking bored.

Any idea, while you are out and about, of what the local populace thinks of them?

I talked to the lady who runs the parking lot across the street from the camp, she says they are a loud, smelly pain in her ass.  Everyone just seems to consider them as a nuisance.

I wonder if Nadin has lice now? Check your hair, Nadin, and get back to us, 'k'?

Didn't the reports of lice come out after nadin first visited the occupoopers?  Maybe she gave them the lice.
