The first games start at 11:00 a.m. central time, 10:00 a.m. mountain time.
I'm winterizing the house, and will be in and out as energy allows, given that I don't have a whole lot of it; every time I get tired of lifting the arms or carrying something, I'll come back here and observe the games.
The big one of the day of course is Louisiana State-Alabama.
Minnesota-Michigan State
Indiana-Ohio State
Michigan-Iowa
Northwestern-Nebraska
Purdue-Wisconsin
Illinois and that obscure state college in Pennsylvania must have the week off, the latter probably to figure out ways of cheating next week.
One sees Nebraska's highly favored over Northwestern, but I wouldn't be too confident.
Northwestern has a pretty good team, and has beaten us before.
Texas Tech-Texas
Kansas-Iowa State
Texas A & M-Oklahoma
Missouri-Baylor
Kansas State-Oklahoma State
I'm thinking Kansas State might pull an upset today.

Whoa.....all the underdogs are ahead (at the moment).

The guy who's supposed to sit in that cubicle watching the games on television and punching in the numbers on the internet scoreboard must be late for work--the guy in charge of the Big 12.
These guys have no idea how good they have it; just to sit in a comfortable chair all afternoon, watching games and once in a while poking the keyboard. They're probably paid more than minimum wage, too.

Well, I did all the winterizing I'm going to do today.
Usually it's a 4-5 hour job, but I've been taking three days.
I got one large window and one small window to do yet, but the most important ones are done, all tucked in for the winter.

Hmmmm.
Louisiana State-Alabama not until 7 p.m. central time.
I notice Southern California whopped the Colorado Buffaloed 42-17 Thursday night; good for them.
Colorado's a nice state and all that, and its people generally decent and civilized, but fans of the Colorado Buffaloed need to take lessons from Amy Vanderbilt or Emily Post or Miss Manners; for decades, they've been both the sorest losers and the sorest winners around.
Colorado was always "too good" for the Big 8, and "too good" for the Big 12, and so last year decided to hang with the cool, hip, trendy, with-in teams of the Pacific 12.
Well, they're now 1-9 for the season. Too bad for the Colorado Buffaloed.

You know, many years ago (the late 1990s), when I was moderator on the "NCAA football forum" for America OnLine, I was frequently accused of being partial to colleges that had "Tech" as their last name.
I was, for example, a fan of Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, California Polytechnic, and would've been a fan of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, if they'd fielded a football team.
I'm not sure why that is, or was; I suppose I'm partial to "tech" colleges because some of the most interesting, most straight and honest, most well-rounded (in culture and arts as well as science and technology) friends I've had, and people I've known, were from "tech" colleges.

I'll bet the condom primitive on Skins's island is happy.

<<leaving for a little while; will be back.

Well, with nearly seven minutes left in the first quarter, it's still Northwestern 0, Nebraska 0.
If Nebraska doesn't get something going in a hurry here, we're mincemeat against that obscure state college in Pennsylvania next week. In theory, against Northwestern, we should be 17-21 points ahead by this time.
-
Texas & M 3, Oklahoma 0, first quarter

Apparently there's a tradition among colleges in the Big 10--it doesn't exist in the Big 12, excepting maybe Missouri and Kansas trade something--to vie for a certain "award."
The Old Oaken Bucket, the Floyd trophy, that sort of trivia.
Fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers were queried during the week about what sort of trophy to trade between Nebraska and Iowa. I said there shouldn't be any sort of trophy, especially since it's in the natural order of things that our now-annual game with Iowa isn't ever going to mean shit.
But, as usual, franksolich was in a minority.
Most fans selected the corn cob to be the award.
Ugh.
Iowa's a corn state; while Nebraska's the third-largest producer of corn in America, really, Nebraska's a cattle state.
The corn cob however well represents that accurate stereotype of Iowans as being hicks, rubes, and hayseeds, so I guess it's okay.
-
Texas A & M 3, Oklahoma 7, first quarter
Northwestern 7, Nebraska 0, first quarter. We're mincemeat. We're gonna get chopped. Bad.
Purdue 7, Wisconsin 14, first quarter
-
Purdue 10, Wisconsin 14, first quarter.
I'm going to bed now for a while.
-
Texas A & M 10, Oklahoma 34, third quarter
Purdue 17, Wisconsin 52, third quarter
Northwestern 21, Nebraska 10, fourth quarter
I should've stayed in bed.
-
I went back to bed, and was slumbering for a very long time.
Texas A & M 25, Oklahoma 41,final
Missouri 39, Baylor 42, final
Kansas State 45, Oklahoma State 52, final
Northwestern 28, Nebraska 25, final
Purdue 17, Wisconsin 62, final
Congratulations to Northwestern, which I said has a pretty good team.
<<eating no crow, because has no crow to eat.
But damn, just damn.
That obscure state college in Pennsylvania's not even going to have to cheat, to win next Saturday.
-
Louisiana State 9, Alabama 6, final
That must've been a pretty good game; I'll have to wait for the morning newspapers to find out what happened.
Among the other top 25, Arizona State 28, UCLA 29 and Oregon 34, Washington 17, both final
A half-and-half situation; one hip trendy cool with-it team losing to a team with history and tradition, and another hip trendy cool with-it team beating a team with history and tradition.
A mixed bag.
But next week, next year, always comes.
