Protest Organizers Hope To Shut Down City
OAKLAND, Calif. (KCRA) -- Occupy Oakland has called on workers and students to take the day off, while demanding corporations and banks close their doors for the city's first general strike since 1946.
On the group's website, Occupy Oakland states the intent of the strike is to shut down the city for a day
...
From Occupy Oakland: "We are asking that all workers go on strike, call in sick, take a vacation day or simply walk off the job with their co-workers. We are also asking that all students walk out of school and join workers and community members in downtown Oakland. All banks and large corporations must close down for the day or demonstrators will march on them."

The Oakland Port apparently has been slowed down enough to have a mile long line of trucks in either direction. No reports of violence so far, but the day is early. Last update reported that the marchers were heading to shut down a Wells Fargo branch.
