C-SPAN to broadcast Cain/Gingrich Lincoln-Douglas style debate
By Nate, on November 1st, 2011

Businessman Herman Cain and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich have agreed to participate in a Lincoln-Douglas style debate this weekend for the Texas Tea Party Patriots PAC. The debate style will feature much lengthier questions than 30 second answers and should provide some deep policy discussions.

I wonder who the moderator will be. Who will C-SPAN put in that chair?

I don't.  I don't think any of the GOP candidates could hold their own against Newt. It may be another attempt to knock Herman down in the polls.

Well, let the best man win. It's a debate and while I'd argue that the best candidate isn't necessarily the best debater, and it would appear that a mano a mano contest like this would favor Newt, but this will determine the length and breadth of Cain's knowledge and ability to communicate his ideas.

Bret Baier had his "Center Stage" thing on last night, with Herman in the jump seat. They grilled him about his so-called sexual harassment lawsuit, but finally moved on to foreign policy and the National Sales Tax shit, (which I still don't like at all).

I had the sense that Herman was tired and he wasn't as articulate and sharp as he is normally.

He'd better damn well be on his toes if he goes up against Newt. But we'll see. Personally, I think this is great format -- 90 minutes of two guys going toe-to-toe and not being constrained by bullshit sound bite commentary.

but one on one with newt would be clean compared to one on one with Bash-Everyone Mitt or Bash-Everyone Perry.
and if you cant take on newt, how are you gonna take on obummer?
the only thing newt has going for him, he has political experience.
the only thing cain has going for him, he doesn't have political experience.

i'll throw it out there...

Could you imagine Newt taking on either Obama or Biden in a one on one freestyle debate?   I don't think Obumbler would fair very well against anyone in a freestyle debate.

Biden couldn't say a word unless he'd stolen it from somebody else.

From the looks of it, this will be a very pertinent, very good exchange. First of all, it is only two people, not nine people all clamoring for time. In addition, I anticipate that there will be nothing but the facts presented. No scurrilous sex harassment issues, no petulant illegal immigrant debacles that don't involve the actual issues, and not housekeepers. Indeed, though I know that Gingrich is more politically savvy and, to a degree, more media aware, Cain will hold his own better than anyone. Keep in mind that Cain is the only one I trust to go on shows like Meet the Press or Lawrence O'Donnell and actually come out on top by destroying the premise of the gotcha question.

It IS telling that Rick Perry is not in this mix, as well as Michele Bachmann. Romney of course is NOT going to EVER agree to a debate with a conservative.

I'd love to see this debate, with Neal Boortz as the moderator.

Cain and Gingrich to meet for tea party debate

(CNN) -

Two 2012 hopefuls will go one-on-one in November at a debate sponsored by the Texas Tea Party Patriots, the group confirmed to CNN Monday.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain will both participate in the event, which is slated to take place at a resort near Houston and will focus on fiscal issues.

Iowa Rep. Steve King will help moderate the event, which will take place Nov. 5. King is considered an influential Republican and a highly sought-after endorsement in Iowa, host of the first-in-the-nation presidential caucus.

Cain and Gingrich agree to Lincoln-Douglas style debate in The Woodlands
Posted on October 24, 2011 at 3:05 pm by Richard Dunham in Campaign 2012, Herman Cain

First, there were Lincoln and Douglas.

This year, we have Cain and Gingrich.

The two Georgians seeking the Republican nomination for president have accepted an invitation from the Texas Patriots PAC to meet in The Woodlands on Nov. 5 for a free-wheeling and moderator-free debate on the major issues in the 2012 presidential campaign.

Trust me....it's worth finding the time to watch in its entirety.  The current media-sponsored "sound bite" debates are worthless wastes of time compared to actually giving a small group of candidates the time to elaborate in depth on their positions.  Particularly since more than half of the current field haven't a prayer of getting anywhere close to the nomination.

They are media circuses.
