DU is more influential than you think.
I just did a google search about permanent bases built in Iraq by Bush. DU is one of the top links that pops up. The link goes to a post from 2006 from kpete. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...
No matter how much you think that what you post on DU doesn't matter, it does. I've seen DU come up as a search result for all kinds of topics. One time by accident I found a gun site linking to a topic posted on DU about gun oil. The members of that forum were shocked that "Democratic" Underground would have such good information about that topic. I've seen it come up for book reviews, tech help, life questions, and much more.
Keep up what you're doing DUers! It makes a difference

My guess is that DU ranks high if you are searching for nutbag conspiracy theories.

7. I swear the writers of Stewart and Colbert read DU on a daily basis.
Proof? I made the Herman Cain 999 - Inglourious Basterds reference multiple times and guess what? I saw it on Colbert last night.

They only rank high because we hit them so much, looking for things to laugh at.
Hasn't failed yet. :lmao:

9. I don't want to be a buzzkill, but Google knows you're a DU'er
Thus the DU results.
Obviously DU is a great source for detailed information on important subjects. Google knows that too.
:thatsright:

Google won't know who you are if you use Firefox with the Ghostery addon, and use Scroogle instead. Devious cookies blocked. Big Brother a.k.a. "Google" can screw off.

Dear DUmmies,
Never confuse people laughing at you with influence.

10. If you have been on DU for awhile, Google your screen name.
You would be amazed where you pop up!
Hi DUmmy.

Hi DUmmy.
Uh huh.
I suspect sometime soon we're going to get one of those shout-outs from Skins's island, by an indignant primitive who just discovered the DUmpster.
I dunno when; I'm guessing the next couple of weeks.
There's a "pattern."
So on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, I always suggest people watch Skins's island from about 9 p.m. (central time) on, as that's when the Big Three are gone, and the moderators are stoned, and the primitives can get away with it.

As I was once considering being a candidate for your Jackass Party I feel an obligation to share a bit of inside information with you. Just keep in mind that this is a breach of protocol and the Fictional Spirit-Guide Corps will probably reprimand me, but I feel you have the right to know.
You shouldn't get too excited about showing up at the top of the heap on Google. It's not because DU is a vast pool of knowledge. It's not because DU is making a difference. Well, at least not a difference in the way you're thinking. DU shows up near the top of a lot of Google searches because The Rove wants DU to show up near the top. He wants as many people as possible to know about DU. It seems that there is a direct correlation between normal and decent people discovering DU and an increase in Republican votes.
Sorry to break that news to you.

Good one, Flippy.
Admirable.

Sorry to get OT here but anyone who says "I am/we are the 99%" with a stright face needs to have "pretensious asshat" tattooed on thier forehead.

Hmmm a screen name, give me back my country, isn't that the code the teabaggers used for their racism?

Dear DUmmies,
Never confuse people laughing at you with influence.
Influence in that their only purpose is to serve as an object example of what excessive drug use does to a mind.
-
DU has influenced me a lot. I now hate democrats, hippies, progressives, liberals, socialist, OWSers and Obama more than I could ever believe imaginable.
Keep up the good work DU.

I googled my screen name and it finally appeared on page 5. :lmao:
Coach, you appeared right off the bat, as soon as I convinced Google I wasn't searching for the former Nebraska coach of the same name.
You even got a DU mention as well!

I googled JohnnyReb and after a few pages, I still wasn't up....but I did find a better JohnnyReb website.

He had this to say......
This is because liberalism cannot abide the use of judgment. Liberals believe that judgment itself is intolerant. And so rather than have us all be equal before the government, liberals seek to use the government to force us all into nonjudgmentalism. Rather than trying to teach others how to judge properly, liberals seek to condemn the act of judgment altogether. And so racism is condemned, not for being inaccurate, but for being an act of judgment. Sexism is condemned for being an act of judgment, not for being inaccurate.
Tolerance is praised, not for being accurate, but for being the absence of judgment.
As Plato said, "Neither does he [meaning a democracy] receive or let pass into the fortress any true words of advice; if anyone says to him that some pleasures are the satisfaction of good and noble desires and others of evil desires, and that he ought to use and honor some and chastise and master the others - whenever this is repeated to him he shakes his head and says that they are all alike, and that one is as good as another."
As Ayn Rand said,
Nothing can corrupt and disintegrate a culture or a man’s character as thoroughly as does the precept of moral agnosticism, the idea that one must never pass moral judgment on others, that one must be morally tolerant of anything, that the good consists of never distinguishing good from evil.
It is obvious who profits and who loses by such a precept. It is not justice or equal treatment that you grant to men when you abstain equally from praising men’s virtues and from condemning men’s vices. When your impartial attitude declares, in effect, that neither the good nor the evil may expect anything from you—whom do you betray and whom do you encourage?
The goal here seems to be to convince people that the use of moral judgment itself is immoral. Plato predicted that this is how a democracy would end.

You know, I never bothered, because I'm sure there's mountains of stuff under my screen-name.
After all, I've been "franksolich" since 1995, and nothing but "franksolich," all over the internet, and as we both know, nothing ever evaporates on the internet; it's there forever.
You even got a DU mention as well!
Oh, I'm sure I have many more than that, but never mind.....
