Occupy St. Louis to show commercial-free World Series

ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - Occupy St. Louis invited baseball fans on Tuesday to watch the World Series for free on a big screen at its campsite, and said it would stream its message against economic inequality between innings.

The group, part of the nationwide Occupy Wall Street movement, said it would show the opening game of the series, which starts on Wednesday at Busch Stadium, at its Kiener Plaza campsite.

"Come watch the game with the 99 percent," the group's Facebook posting said. "Show the world that there isn't a need for corporate sponsors to enjoy baseball."

"We will be projecting the game on our big screen, but without corporate sponsors. Commercials will be replaced with other Occupy groups' livestream," it said.

1. Oooo, I bet there are a battalion of MLB lawyers...

...camped outside a courtroom right now, cease-and-desist orders in their hot little hands.

And there's the weather.

GAME 1 OF THE WORLD SERIES...lots of clouds, very windy...gusty northwest winds 15 to 30 m.p.h. and cold...in the 40's for the game...there will be some showers around...especially from the ball-park to the east...should get this game in...but it is windy and cold

7. Do you edit copyrighted content and show it to an audience?

8. If fast forwarding through commercials is considered editing, yes I do.

Is someone going to turn me in to the TV police now?

 :mental: :mental:

I doubt that MLB cares in the least that some goons will be replacing the commercials with propaganda, they already got their money from the sponsors.

Now if the anti capitalist goons try charging people then there may be an issue, but I doubt they could get much money from a bunch of freeloaders.

MLB takes their copyright very serious.  If they learn about this, they will shut it down or will file lawsuits attempting to recuperate "lost revenue".

There won't be any lost revenue, it's not like a bunch of freeloaders will pay to watch the game.  :-)

I will laugh my ass off if MLB does go after the goons though.

So....this is how the primitives get their free stuff.

Someone else pays for something, and then they snatch it away.

I believe you are correct.......my neighbor owns a sports bar, and he pays very healthy fees to show the games to his patrons........the OWB folks should listen to the legal notice that runs before every game broadcast........

That be the usual Mo-dis operate-tie....except when they want Mo-of-Dat.

Perhaps MLB should be told about this, if they don't know it already.

Hey, idiot Kansas school teacher, the actual ethical thing that would have reflected the belief these idiots are trying to get across would have been for the person(s) who are broadcasting this without the revenue portion that's paying for it to have offered revenue IN LIEU of commercials. Then you would have been saying we are willing to pay for it ourselves instead of be aparty to corporate sponsorship. Without that little ethical stumbling block, the ones choosing to televise this to an AUDIENCE of many are nothing more then thieves who talk a good talk but really want the benefits of corporate sponsorship, other people's taxes, etc without actually giving anything in return. You and your ilk have no moral or ethical leg to stand on and there isn't a principled one in your bunch no matter how much you think you all are.  :banghead:

What he said.  Even stuff that's broadcast, if you put it on for enough of an audience for promotional reasons, can trip the switch on the copyright lawyers' red alert siren, because it can turn it into an 'Unlicensed performance.'  The problem of course in dealing with an amorphous mob is exactly who to go after, but thanks to cell phone cameras and surveillance video, anonymity is near death in urban America.

Who knows?  Maybe one of those cell cameras can record the FBI going in and busting that broadcast up! :yahoo:

Did they get "express written consent from Major League Baseball"?  I think not.

btw, how did all these poor 99%ers get a large screen TV to watch and don't they know that evil greedy corporations produced that TV and profited from it?

I hope they get sued into oblivion.  Actually, that might be criminal as well as civil.

Maybe. Maybe not.

The paid advertisers will have a legitimate complaint. they paid millions of dollars to run an ad and some DUmbass is going to edit them out and substitute propaganda in their place.

This is going to add fuel to the OWS campfire, literally. Big corporations are going to snuff them out.

Hippies are huge sports fans, especially strategy-driven games like baseball (well, at least National League baseball).

Sports outlets have reported that MLB Advanced Media, the interactive arm of Major League Baseball, is teaming up with the hateful conservative commentator Glenn Beck to stream his shows online.

Major League Baseball's partnership with Glenn Beck is shameful and should not be giving him a platform to spew his hate and fearmongering. MLB should immediately sever their relationship with Beck.
Strike Out Beck (http://www.strikeoutbeck.com/)

Are the OWSies boycotting Beck, or is that just the DUmp?

How do you fast forward through commercials during a live broadcast?

How do you fast forward through commercials during a live broadcast?

Time delay OR by simply airing OWS ads instead of the paid-for commercials.
