Family member went to the hospital will lose job at 11 PM

A family member is in the hospital with very high blood pressure. When he called work, they told him be here on time or your fired.

He was pistol whipped at the convenience/gas store last year 2 days before Christmas. He has been looking, but this was the better paying of any jobs offered since then.

Okay, granted, convenience store work is very dangerous, and convenience store clerks woefully underpaid.

In fact, it's always irritated me, that while a once-every-15-years murder of an abortion profiteer grabs the headlines, the five or six murders weekly of convenience store and liquor store clerks, of pawnbrokers, of gas station attendants, garners no notice or sympathy from our left-stream news media.

So I'll give my fellow Nebraskan that; his relative probably actually does have high blood pressure from the stress of such work, and this being Omaha, he probably actually was violently treated in some manner or another.

However, being intimately acquainted with business as it is conducted in Nebraska, I doubt:

Omaha Steve's stretching something here.

1. There ought to be a law. . . . is this really legal?

It's legal, but it's one of those things that, really, isn't done.

16. I don't even know yet what got him to go to the Dr.

I only found out a half hour ago. I don't know all the details.

He has been a good worker that has worked double shifts without warning, on time, etc.

41. so, what happened?

First, is he okay?

Next, did they actually fire him?

I'll second (or third, or fourth) the suggestions to call the news media. At the very least, a letter to the editor is in order (although not from your relative; you wouldn't want his name to turn up in a Google search if he has to find a new job).

Then what in the hell is he doing hanging out with a moonbat like you?
Odds are if there is any truth to this story, he really got canned for coming up hot on a piss test, I only say that because that is the type of people that are on DU and with whom they associate.

This is a relative of a primitive, though, not a primitive himself.

I find it credible that the relative's been a good employee and been up against some pretty dangerous things.

I don't find it credible, however, the allegations of my fellow Nebraskan about what's going to happen to the relative.  Omaha Steve's trying to create hysteria out of thin air.

If he does work hard, he can't be a primitive. Primitives are allergic to hard work it makes them break out and cry.

It costs the business a hell of a lot more to hire a new employee than to fire someone for calling in sick. They wouldn't do it if he was a good worker and especially if he was in the ER. I call BS.

Aha.

My point exactly.

Omaha Steve's just trying to create hysteria out of thin air, to make a pro-union selling-point.

Sounds like this absence was probably the last straw, rather than a trigger-happy employer, but it's always possible.  If he was a full-timer (What are the chances of that with one of Steve's relictives?) he can always file for UE.

If this lame bouncy were true, the threat of firing would be because the guy is as lousy an employee as the Omaha Weeper.

But at least the imaginary "family member" has been working, unlike Steve, who only works at getting on the dole.

I doubt Weepy Steve has a "family member". If he does, it's tiny.

If he has, I haven't seen it.

I wish he'd get on with it, writing about his campaign rather than writing about all this other stuff.

Maybe he's trying to "gloss it over" and, by that, not let anyone know just how bad it's going.

That's possible, but he should man up and tell the primitives and us he's not running after all.

Yeah, I did that on purpose, to see if anyone would see the hidden joke.

I'd punch your boss in the gut for what he did to you.

Bosses are getting more and more unreasonable and abusive,my niece got fired because I made my sister a little late, getting out of the hospital too, She told me my niece lost her job because the bus isn't fast enough to satisfy her asshole ex-boss's punctuality fetish.and my delay signing discharge papers made her unable to pick her up to take her to work..
I guess boss isn't a clear description of what they are.maybe petty tyrant fits better.

Omaha is in Ohio now?

Funny how you DUmmies cheer when a pizza delivery driver gets fired for defending themselves with a gun but piss and moan over this.

Looks to me like the subway cat could use some brushing-up in her geography.

Anyway.

Now the picture gets clearer.  It's probably likely that my fellow Nebraskan's relative is older middle-aged, and has been in bad health for quite some time.  Maybe somewhat on the heavy side, or something like that.

He probably lost a better job due to the booming 0bamaconomy, and took whatever he could find.

Convenience store work doesn't pay well, and so sometimes the people who get hired are "rejects" from other occupations; the old, the fat, the tattooed, the nose-ringed, the semi-literate, &c., &c., &c.

This being Omaha, there's no doubt the older heavy relative was threatened with violence, and even given violence, in his job.  But that part's irrelevant here.

So maybe the guy was busting his ass; I kind of don't doubt that--being dependable and reliable and all that.  After all, he was desperate for a job, and wasn't prime employment material.

But on the other hand, obviously he had health problems (high blood pressure, fatness, whatnot) that made him, really, a "bad fit" for the job.

Despite what Omaha's Ed Norton always seems to try to allege, Nebraska does have employment laws and those employment laws are generally observed, and if not, enforced.

If this relative was in fact dependable and reliable and hard-working--and I don't doubt that he was--there's something else missing in my fellow Nebraskan's tale here.  Either he was not dependable and reliable and hard-working, or Omaha Steve isn't telling us a certain pertinent fact that of course detracts from the "message" he's trying to deliver here (i.e., the oppression of the working class).

Either, either.  Time for my fellow Nebraskan to illuminate as to the truth.

Subway kitty is going to find out that its hard to hit someone in Nebraska if shes loking around in Ohio. Also even if she carried out her /he /it's threat its not going to just walk away from it around here.

He's planning to make his big announcement at grasswire's pie shop.

But if he's lucky enough to hit the disability lotto, the political career goes into the crapper.

A family member is in the hospital with very high blood pressure. When he called work, they told him be here on time or your fired.

He was pistol whipped at the convenience/gas store last year 2 days before Christmas. He has been looking, but this was the better paying of any jobs offered since then.

Oh crap, don't these people know how to tell a sob story anymore? What happened to their imaginations?

So, a family member was rushed to the hospital. The hospital said it was just high blood pressure and made him wait, even though he probably really had a heart attack, because he didn't have insurance.

Well, he called his boss to tell him he was at the emergency room and couldn't get to work until he saw a doctor. Well, his boss who makes him work double shifts and won't give him a raise told him he could either come to work or lose his job because he'd missed too many days. Of course he's missed work, working at a convenience store is high stress and he has heart problems and high blood pressure. Just thinking about going to work sometimes gives him an anxiety attack.

Naturally, he had to wait until all the people with insurance went first so by the time it was his turn his blood pressure and heart rate were normal. The doctor told him he was fine and told him he could take a baby aspirin every day if he wanted. So now, not only does he not have a job, but thanks to  a system that only takes care of rich people and people with insurance, he'll probably have a heart attack.

And this after he bravely stared down a robber who was armed and was trying to steal money from the store during his shift. Thanks to a culture that loves guns. If there were gun control laws this probably wouldn't happen. Well, he figured he better just hand over the money, but the robber still hit him with the pistol and he could have been shot! Luckily, a cop jumped out from behind the Little Debbie snack display and captured the guy. He said he kinda felt sorry for the guy because he looked poor, probably had kids at home to feed. The cop told my family member he should probably go home and change his pants.

Love the Ed Norton moniker.

It is aptly applied in relation to his working in a poop refinery.
