There is nothing particularly special about this thread except that it points out the glaring stupidity of DU "arguments".

Was Herman Cain the beneficiary of affirmative action programs?
while he claims he pulled himself up by his own bootstraps, does anyone believe that Herman Cain's rise through the corporate ranks was by merit alone?
Just like Eric Cantor who benefited from Social Security as he was growing up, and now wants to destroy it, Cain seems to be one of those who has amnesia about how he got where he is.

Okay, first of all regarding your Social Security comment - It is possible to have benefited from some institution or situation at one time and still see the need to modify or eliminate said institution. Case in point: You DUmmies lamentations over the phenomenon of "White Privilege". According to your logic, all white persons in the U.S. benefited from that, including yourselves, yet you still advocate eliminating it. So saying that if one has reaped the rewards of something disqualifies you from ever criticizing it is stupid and hypocritical by your own standards.

2. In this society, you can never isolate yourself enough to credit yourself
with "pulling up your bootstraps"
We are all dependent on the whole in many many ways, regardless of programs like AA
Yes, someone who starts a new business is "dependent" upon customers coming in and purchasing their goods or services to succeed. A person seeking an education is "dependent" on teachers being there to provide them with the tools to learn. A person seeking a peaceful existence is "dependent" on their neighbors to behave in a civilized manner. Everyone in society depends on others at least in some tangential way. But that is a far cry from the type of dependence that dictates others must do for you, at the point of a government gun, what you are capable of doing yourself. That's the kind of dependence Conservatives question.

3. According to his bio, his father worked 3 jobs to provide for his family.
I think that counts as affirmative action.
His claim of being a self-made man is a slap in his father's face; if you ask me.
This kind of ignorance is just galactic in scope. His father working 3 jobs is a form of Affirmative Action? It's the very antithesis of AA. What are you trying to say here, that unless a person is raised by wolves then they can take no credit for working to rise above the circumstances of their birth? What kind of thought process does it take to stretch reality that thin?

4. He'd just claim he never needed it, if he did in fact benefit.
I don't know any rethug who doesn't believe s/he's the smartest, canniesst and most talented person in every room.
Are you shittin' me? Now you know this DUmbass crim son has been at DU for years. Even a brief reading there reveals their overbearing philosophy that they are The Bestest, Smartest, Most Compassionate People In The Universeâ„¢. So is he/she/it an idiot or just willfully ignorant?
Only in the cloistered, self-examination-less environment of DU can you find this brand of breathtaking stupidity and hypocrisy.

I'm betting we can find some of that at the White House as well. :-)
