What is enough?
What is enough for a person to comfortably live on? A small house and modest income? A McMansion and a large income? No more than five acres of land? Just what is enough for a person?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x2099899
Simple answer to that, enough is what each individual thinks is enough for themselves, not what some jealous knucklehead at DU thinks is enough for other people.
I have a similar question that most lefties won't dare answer, how much is enough, when it comes to the rich paying their fair share, what percentage would be enough? The reason they won't answer is if they say 99% like they really want, then even a lot of libs will say they are insane. That is why they like the "Let's just tax the rich at another 3%" approach, knowing that in six months they can demand another 3% until eventually they reach the goal of taking all the wealth from the rich.

Not this shit again.
I wish I had a bit more money to live a little more comfortable, but we manage to get by. We have a roof over our heads and food on the table. We are fine.

I think most working folks feel that way. The difference is, we either learn to live within our means or find a way to make more money. We don't go around saying that the 1% owes us beer and travel money and many experiences.

Who determines what is enough? Has anyone ever asked George Soros what's enough?

According to the prevailing wisdom at DU, all conservatives "believe they're gunna be rich some day, that's why they worship their corporate masters". It couldn't possibly be because we promote freedom for everyone regardless of how much money they have, and that disincentivizing people from becoming successful drags everyone down to the same level of stagnation and mediocrity.

Then pray tell me MadHound... why do all the welfare pukes always want more? They have cable TV, internet access, food on the table, roof over their head, heat in the winter, cool air in the summer, a free cell phone, free school lunches for their kids, free medical care for them and their spawn... and they ain't paying a cent for it! Pray tell me MadHound... when is it enough? Do you know who is paying for it? Let me clue you in dumbass... me and people like me. Those people that work 12 hr days and come home and work another 6 taking care of what I bought with the money I freaking earned!!! Now you want me to pay more to take care of losers like you?
I don't think so. You can just FOAD you loser.

Right now I definitely don't have enough. I've had one job called in during the last two weeks. I need about three per week to break even. The dems started "helping" the economy when they took over in 2007. So far they've helped me into the poor house. They've just about helped me all the way out of business. Soon they'll be helped me out of a place to live, and I don't even have a Buick.
Please dems, don't help me any more.
edit to add: You'll notice that no where and at no time have I said that the government should steal something from someone else and give to me? I just want to be left alone.

Chuck, I am sorry for your troubles. Been there myself a time or two. I also just want to be left alone. I don't want help, support, assistance, or any of it. I just want to be left the freak alone. Let me survive or fail all on my own for the love of Pete. That is all.

One big difference between the DUmmies and most of us. We rely on ourselves or family when the need arises, not the government.
-
We're not rich, never have been, don't particularly care whether we ever are. Granted I don't think I'd turn down Megabucks lottery winnings. Right now we're scraping by by the skin of our teeth. So are a lot of other people. Our mortgage is upside down but we love it here and don't plan on moving anyway. We just manage to pay our bills. We have satellite TV but no premium channels. We get the package that includes the channels that play those stupid poker championships. My husband loves those. And we have DSL. This one is for me. It's nice to communicate with people when I'm out here in the middle of God's country. And my sister and I are best friends. DSL allows us to check in on each other everyday even if it's just to poke each other on facebook. If we had to we'd give them up for as long as we need to. My "egg money" pays for their feed and my internet.
I seriously don't understand what their obsession with money is. Half the time they want to live off the land in happy little communes and the other half they're bitching because other people have more than they do. Most of the people on DU are white and privileged by their own standards. By their own values shouldn't extra taxes on the rich bypass them completely and be given to minority populations to level the playing field. Taking money that could go to some poor black family with no heat or nutritious food. Shame on them for their selfishness.

Holy crap, Beefeater! :o
Hey lurkers, shouldn't you be occupying that? Go ahead, shit in her pool. She won't mind.

"Enough" isn't a number of dollars, it's when a person reaches a level of accomplishment that equals his ambition.
Despite all the anti-American rhetoric from democrat losers, this is still the best and nearly the only place on earth to do that.
-
Good News, everybody! Kentuck has the answer, we don't need to ponder this question anymore.

9. For most Americans...
Fifty thousand per year would be a very comfortable lifestyle...
There you go.

Is that $50,000 before or after federal, state, and local liberals take their 40%? Just curious.

Who do you know that you can get off only shelling out 40%?!?!?! :-)
-
50k per person or per family?

50k per person or per family?
That's what I'd like to know too. Because $50,000 per year for a family of three still feels like you're living paycheck to paycheck.

MadHound, being a DUer you are probably too stupid to understand a sincere response, but the truth is that the answer is different for every person. At one end of the spectrum, some people would be forever satisfied by three hots and a cot and have no desire to push past that, as long as their basic needs are taken care of. At the other end of that spectrum are those who know no limits, and feel insatiably compelled to go for more and more wealth or achievement, some happy to do that by forthright means and some unhappy unless they can do it by fraud and trickery. In a complex and populous society, where people are raised with a consciousness of lifestyles different from their own (Unlike the primitive village exalted by social theorists), it is simply not in the nature of humans to all have similar satisfaction levels or be content to have one that doesn't fit them enforced upon them. Therein lies the seed of failure for any heavy-handed Socialist plan.
-
I know where they are going with the $50,000 thing - government mandated living wage. Everyone from the janitor to the CEO makes $50,000. Screw that, and screw them. Nothing kills motivation and incentive like socialism. Not to mention that the people making big money are usually providing a much larger multiple of that in value to the rest of society.
These people are the very bottom of the gene pool.

As soon as it would happen, the price for any good (Such as a loaf of bread or a gallon of gas) would jump an order of magnitude, and commodity prices would go up correspondingly every time they tweaked the 'Living wage' amount. It's a fool's game.

Which explains why the fools at the DUmp think it's so great.

Is there really any more proof needed that what liberalism aspires towards is not prosperity but reducing people to a common level of subsistence living dictted by their unelected sense of fairness.

But not them.

Well, a thousand bucks a week gross means $25 per hour. To most DUmpmonkeys, that is an unimaginable pile of cash.
DUmpmonkeys believe that on $50K per year they could have trashbags filled with weed in every closet of their minimansion, and a gymbag filled with crack in the trunk of their Benz.

Well doesn't it depend on the area? Most big cities and some suburbs, even parts of the country cost more than others. Sheesh! And why do they always think they can dictate what someone who works hard to get where they are earn. They always complain about CEO salaries but I'd bet anything not one of them would turn it down. And most wouldn't even think about "fair share".

None of the few liberal leaning folks who make it to the CEO level DO turn it down. Not ONE. Including scumbags like Buffett, who's fighting a billion dollar back tax issue. It's because they're jealous of success, period, and lack the drive to succeed on their own. And they lack any moral grounding whatsoever.

That's why they closed all the public pools here.

Most, when they reach the CEO level, see the light and turn into Republicans, e.g., Herman Cain.
