Look at the note this women at this link shares... It made me gasp... Food shortage requires that
(http://s3.moveon.org/images/tumblr_lscd5nqbzq1r25y9yo1_500.jpg)
she eats one meal a day so her two children have enough to eat....

That woman looks like she could skip some of those meals, too. Seriously, most days I eat only one meal per day.

1. I did that for years.
Years.
You can shovel in a lot of calories in one meal.

and I was grateful to have what we did.
Never thought in a million years I would end up raising that child, or any child, alone.
One reason I advocate for WIC every chance I get. I don't even want to think where we would have been without it.
Now I'm an employer, with 16 people I'm responsible for, and lots more outside our company who depend on us. It still feels a little similar.
Aloha!
My problem with WIC and other welfare programs is that they don't require naming the baby daddies.

That you're a fatassed lazy freeloader.
-
I eat one meal a day. Right now I'm not very active and don't need the calories.
I also raised 2 children essentially alone while working full time without government aid of any kind. No free or reduced school lunches, none of that. If a job wasn't working out for me I applied for others until I got a new one. I didn't just quit - I had responsibilities that were mine. I also never took time off work, those few vacation and sick days were precious and had to be saved for use in caring for my children, to go hold a sign with a group of other useless eaters.
-
She eats one meal a day...it starts at 8 am and ends at 6 pm.
-
I eat one meal a day. Lunch. No appetite in the morning, and too damn tired at night. What's the big shocker? Those people with the sad tales working their way around the internet are real pieces of work. So many of them are bitching about huge student loans. Like they never had to sign on the dotted line for them. They never stopped to think about payback on investment, but merrily continued on in Womyn's or Ethnic Studies. I'll tell you what radical change we need....it's in the universities.
-
I normally only eat one meal a day, DUmpmonkies. Am I the 99%? Nah, screw that, I like being in the minority.
BTW, why are you idiots oppressing us minorities? Don't make me call the ACLU, damnit!

It's what parents are supposed to do.
If you don't like your situation, change it. Stop blaming everybody else or looking for a handout to help you.

That particular DUmmie doesn't look like it's missed a meal in a while.

When it comes to children, I want them fed. I don't give a shit about the parent's but I want the children to be fed and not ever experience hunger.

I do support WIC because I don't want children to go hungry. They are not responsible for their parents mistakes. But, reminder for the DUmmies, oatmeal is about 10 cents a serving and it keeps you feeling full. I'm always amazed that when money it tight people don't buy more oatmeal.

She eats one meal a day - probably a 1,600 calorie take-out from McDonalds. I eat three meals a day and have a snack, and I hit about 1,600 calories when I'm cutting. So what, lady?

I'm not saying that the children shouldn't be fed, hookers are not known for keeping their children. Pregnancy interferes with their work for too long and most make sure they never get pregnant. If a woman knows who the father is, the state should have recourse to pursue the father for support.
That happens in the case of divorce and child support, so why not with unwed mothers and welfare?
-
When my Mom was first divorced from my Dad, she barely ate one meal a day, to make sure my brother and I had three. It was rough going those first few years, I see that now in retrospect, but didn't know it at the time. We didn't have a TV, and our presents were school clothes and pajamas for Christmas and our Birthday. She qualified for WIC but didn't get it because she was too proud, so we ate ALOT of eggs and pancakes. Special birthday treat was a trip to McDonalds for a double cheeseburger.
This was in 77-80. She said things turned around in 81, that was when we got a TV, and special birthday treats became a steak dinner.
That message was not lost on me.

I hunted and fished and my grandfather had a garden we could raid on occasion. I guess this type of self-reliance is lost on some people.

I grew up the same way. In fact, this past weekend, I shot a doe and a turkey with my bow. I'll have about 35 pounds of lean ground meat, some backstraps, and two big turkey breasts to eat. My wife doesn't like wild game to eat, but if times were hard, this would last our family a month.
-
I feel bad for anyone who's truly hungry and especially if they have kids BUT that woman from what I can see, she doesn't look like she's missing any meals.

My grandmother said that the only thing that kept them from going hungry as children was the huge garden her dad planted every year.

Exactly. Either she's lying about the number of meals, or she hasn't been eating one meal a day for more than a month, or she eats one BIG meal per day. Anything else, and she'd not be a fatass.
-
My grandmother said that the only thing that kept them from going hungry as children was the huge garden her dad planted every year.
That's the way it was when I was a kid. The garden provided most of the vegetables all year long through freezing and canning. We also fished a lot and always had frozen fish, if no other meat.

These so-minded people go on and on about how it takes a village to raise a child, yet instead of being proactive and seeking help, such as a neighbor to sit while she gets a second job, or delivering papers, or checking out soup or bread kitchens, etc, she chooses to use her digital camera and internet to post a useless photo whining about ****all.
This pisses me off to no end.
Quitcher bitchin and get up and do something. Oh, and don't vote for socialists.

This DUmmy whine reminds me of that old George Jones tune, "Once A Day, Every Day, All Day Long".

I know, right? Oatmeal is cheap and filling. So is rice. A bag of beans is less than 2 bucks. A loaf of bread can last one person a week, and peanut butter (while not cheap) is a good source of protein. A box of spaghetti can be had for under $1.50. There are plenty of things these DUmbasses could eat and not spend a fortune, but because it isn't what they WANT or think they DESERVE, it's not good enough.

Bulk ground meat is still not that expensive, despite rising meat prices. Raman(sp?) noodles are ridiculously cheap. An adult with children has to really try hard to starve in the US.

The sad thing is, literally billions of dollars have been spent to feed the world hungry , but most is taken by the very corrupt governments in those countries. Over population in parts of the world is another cause. The left's refusal to allow GM crops to be exported to those countries just further intensifies the problems.

Though you can only see the top of her poorly-groomed head and her hand, she hardly appears emaciated, but really of rather normal adiposity.

Anyone remember that extremely obese fatass leech of a woman on a stage demanding welfare and, if this makes any sense, "money for jobs" and screaming, "We are going hungry!"?
I've looked for it on several occasions, but can't seem to find it.

Could well be, if so some of Uncle Barry's JBTs may come knocking shortly. I gather the Feds have announced plans to launch a crack-down on those things under Federal drug laws.

I usually eat one meal a day. I have no appetite for breakfast and it's not uncommon for me to work right through lunch on my job. So I have a good meal in the early evening and that's about it. Probably not the best way to go health-wise but it's not a major problem, either. On my days off I'll sometimes have a late snack if I don't fall asleep first.
-
Yeh. I thought only liars and whiners were.
You were not mistaken.

I haven't read all four pages yet, but I would only eat one meal a day too if needed. My daughter's health will always come first. The only difference between a DUmmie and myself, is that I would not bitch about it on the internet. There are thousands of recipes on the internet that are delicious and the ingredients are cheap. You can feed your family of three for less money than you think.
My meal situation is 1 1/2 or 2 if I am lucky. For lunch, I have a grilled cheese and for dinner, I have a honey ham sandwich or a microwavable pita thing from Stouffers. I'm not much of a breakfast person.

Kids don't eat everything. One of my cousins started getting fat because she would eat what the kids didn't.
Besides, I thought property owners were feeding the kids these days. Where does this fake martyr live?

I wonder if her children live in the basement, smoking weed, eating Cheetoes, and posting on the DUmp?

I doubt the person in the photo even wrote the message on the paper. It's too slogan oriented. This stinks like its a prop handed to the person for the photo op.

So she does what just about everyone has had to do at one time. When my boys were really young we had very little money. We only had a wood stove for heat so but we had a mini forest behind our house. I used to put my boys in their wagon and we'd go out and pick up branches that were on the ground. Both of them talk about how fun this was to this day. At the time they had no idea we were poor they were just having fun in the woods. I'd pick berries that grew wild on the property (I still do this) so we could have some fruit in our diet. I put them in muffins, cobblers, and eat them plain. I'd buy those really cheap vegetable seeds (the kind Walmart used to have for 10 cents) and canned what we didn't eat fresh. Got my canning jars at the Goodwill, Salvation Army & garage sales. Most of our lives we had only one car. I remember one of the coldest winter our car died. My husband spent hours for several days out in the cold fixing it. You do what you have to do.
But if she's only eating one meal a day she's a freaking idiot. Beans are cheap. So are potatoes, carrots & onions and other vegetables & fruit in season. There's always some kind of meat on sale and if you buy in bulk and freeze it (last week my Safeway had chicken on sale for .79 a pound). If I didn't have my own you can bet I would've bought several and frozen them. Sometimes you can find meat that's marked down. It's sometimes brown from air getting to it & a couple of days away from the store's expiration date but if you freeze it and/or use it right away it's just fine. There's the meat for my stew. Beans and stew can last for several days with only one adult and 2 small children. You may get tired of eating it day after day but it's warm, filling and nutritious. My dollar store has white rice & noodles (good for making soups), spaghetti sauce, canned fruits & vegetables, cookies & chips for a special treat. We have a refrigerator/freezer in ours and it has bologna, cheese slices (not the best but if you're poor it will do), small packages of chicken drumsticks (but enough to feed and adult & 2 small people) and would be perfect for making broth and chicken soup), fish stick & french fries (though if I were poor I'd only get these once in a while). Buy a bag of flour, some sugar, baking powder, baking soda, eggs, store brand milk, and the cheapest margarine you can find (this not only works as a spread but can be melted and used in place of oil), large store brand oatmeal, maybe some yeast. Now you have the ingredients for muffins, rolls, biscuits, pancakes, quick bread, yeast bread, even oatmeal cookies. Not to mention yummy warm, filling, and nutritious oatmeal for breakfast.
If you're only eating one meal a day you aren't shopping correctly. Little boxes of mac & cheese may seem cheap but since you get such a small amount it's hardly frugal. Although if you buy a few of the store brand when they're on sale & combine it with canned tuna (also relatively inexpensive) and frozen or canned peas it can last for a couple of days. My kids used to love this. However, if you have time to protest on wall street and have small children, your time would be better spent making soups, stews, and breads with your spare time instead of camping out and complaining. Spend a day (obviously not working but if you were you could do this on one of your days off) chopping veggies, making stews, soups, and a weeks worth of bread, rolls, whatever & freezing them. If you put out the effort you can probably get a month's work of dinners done this way.
It's amazing that these people actually know how to wipe their butts.

On the Hillbillyhousewife.com site, she says that
The official USDA Cost of Food for a family of four on the Thrifty Plan has risen to well over $500 a month, and it continues rising each month!

Thanks for the Hillbillyhousewife link. The author was right about chicken, it being very versatile. same with eggs. Pasta(spaghetti, egg noodles, any kind really) goes along way. Rice does too. Various Campbells soup always has great meals on their cans. Casseroles are often easy to do and can last a few days or freeze it and save.
i think it is important to keep some basics on hand. peanutbutter and jelly, tunafish, oatmeal, bread.
I bought premade rolled out pizza dough like 4 for 3 bucks, a small jar of pizza sauce, a bag of mozarella cheese, couple of pepper, onions, mushrooms, italian susage and voila!!!! and it lasted me four meals!!!
It takes common sense!!
-
That MUST BE one hell of a meal.
