CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE Planned In Today's Occupy Wall St. March
Posted on their FB page less than an hour ago:
"Remember, This movement is based on civil disobedience. Do not get penned up today. Do not be forced on the sidewalk. Take the streets, sit down, Disrupt traffic, be brave....Some advice from Naomi Klein..please protesters, I can't say this enough: "DO NOT MARCH. SIT DOWN or stand with linked arms. DO NOT JUST MARCH. I have studied protests for the last fifty years -- the ones that ended in state violence (they always win) are short and they MARCH. the ones that brought down regimes are LONG and STOP TRAFFIC and involve SITTING DOWN OR STANDING STILL WITH LINKED ARMS. They take patience." This is our moment. We are growing because we are resisting."
I'm so happy that this isn't just another run-of-the-mill, permit-seeking waste of time. They are taking lessons from history. I regret every minute that my geographical location and obligations here at home keep me from being there.
Hey DUchebags,
I hope and pray hard that this happens to you there....

Because disrupting normal peoples lives, is the best way to garner their support.

Ummm, ya, right. Are the trees still standing at Berkeley? :thatsright:

Yeah about that. There were all sorts of protests in the streets when we went into Iraq. I just laid on the 59 Fleetside's horn for about three minutes, then I power braked a 10 second burnout and they got out of my way. The cops were laughing.

Translation: Silly little things like laws and basic standards of human decency are only for everyone else. They don't apply to us, because we're so much more enlightened than the common idiot Americans.
Skul makes a good point as well; They're not achieving any of their demands, or winning over supporters to their side, by doing this; They're inconveniencing, and generally pissing off, decent and hardworking Americans.

If this idiot had studied protests as much as he claimed, he'd know that, for instance, the civil rights protests which were most effective and most memorable (i.e. Birmingham) were the ones that were marches. He'd also know that the protests which had teh most positive impact were the ones which involved regular citizens, not a bunch of smelly, pretentious hippies like the ones that are literally and figuratively making a stink in NY at this moment.

I am actually glad they are doing this. Every normal person was appalled by the wisconsin protests and these protests will remind the majority of Americans what these people are like.
-
Yeah, block traffic in NY and you'll NEVER get your point across. You'll be hated forever.

Exactly right! This reminds me so much of President Nixon's campaigns in 1968 and 1972.
In 1968, the dirty, smelly hippies started an anti-war riot outside the democrat convention in Chicago. Mayor Daley used whatever police force was necessary to maintain order, and was attacked by his fellow democrats on the convention floor for not tolerating the "children" who were rioting. Millions of people saw that as the democrat party supporting the dirty hippies, for perhaps the first time. The fallout defeated Senator Humphrey and put Nixon in the White House.
In 1972, the democrat party was in full alliance with the dirty anti-American hippies (like John F'n) that were causing disruptions all over the country. Senator McGovern openly took their side. President Nixon won 49 states.
If I were a democrat politician, I'd be terrified of being seen in league with these demonstrating deadbeats.
In fact, if I were a democrat politician, I'd be calling for the forcible arrest and imprisonment of the entire hippie mob in New York.
If you are seen as an ally of the mob, you will be destroyed by normal people at the polls.
