Are you paid what you're worth?
Over the last 30 years, productivity (output per hour) has roughly doubled, but the median wage has stagnated and executive compensation has soared.
This has nothing to do with tax policy, which is discussed endlessly (and has so far, gone nowhere - in spite of a supermajority of Americans favoring a more progressive tax code, it hasn't happened).
What's the real story her

2. Not even remotely....
...and I despise the mother****ers in my office that are severely overpaid...But, being a wage-slave what's my alternative in the current economic climate but to shut my mouth, take my beatings and be grateful I am still able to stay (barely) afloat..

3. I was, at one time, paid more than I was worth.
Now, I'm paid less than I'm worth. I'm glad I still have work that I get paid for. Another time, I may be paid more than I'm worth again.
In your dreams.

5. Hell, no.
I made more than double what I make now in 2001.
Not adjusted for inflation.

6. Under Capitalism you're paid by the hour, not by what you produce
Nothing to do with 'worth'
Lenin would be proud.

10. No one's paid what they believe they're worth.
At my "job" I'm paid 21 bucks an hour.
I charge between 65 and 500 dollars an hour when working on the side. What am I really worth?
And from Steven numbers

22. I did some calculations a few months back. The average non-supervisory worker is getting paid 1/2 to
1/3rd what they should be getting paid. This is based on a 60-1 CEO to non-supervisory worker pay ratio that we had back in the 1950's/1960's instead of the 300-1 or greater ratio that we have now.
The average non-supervisory worker is getting paid around $30K per year right now. That should be between $60-$90K. Everyone else should be in proportion from there.

24. No, and I never have
been paid the going rate for my profession.
I'm unemployed now, so I make nothing. :P
But even when I was working as a contractor for a large three lettered corporation, I was making about 1/3 less than the going rate for my skills and years of experience. That's what they offered and would not negotiate because they would just pass you by and hire someone else. I have never caught up and most likely will not catch up. I'll be 50 next year
How can a collective group with such a low self esteem, requiring self medication, value them self so highly?
-
IF they think they're worth more, then why not ask for it? Or find a new job that pays them commiserate with what they think they're worth?
Oh wait, DUmmies expect the government and the union to do that for them. Now I see.
-
No hard working person is ever worth only the amount they get paid, however they don't sit around and gripe about it, they continue to work so they can either find something better or move up where they are.
DUmmies on the other hand aren't worth the govt checks that the rest of us are nice enough to help pay for.
-
Work harder for your raises/promotions if you're upset with your current pay.

Work harder for your raises/promotions if you're upset with your current pay.
But, they are too smart for actual labor. Having to work hard is beneath their dignity.
-
Hey DUmmies, here's a revolutionary idea (I figured the "R" word would get your attention), quit your dead end under payed jobs and start a business of your own.
Go ahead, take some risks, take the plunge. Enter the market with a product or service that is in demand and make a success story of yourselves.
Well?
-
They pay me what they pay me, and I keep working here. 'Worth' is purely subjective, on both sides.

NEWSFLASH TO DUMMIES: Your "worth" isn't determined by you; it's determined by your potential employer who follows market trends. Its no different than you thinking your house is worth X, but the economy, comps, and appraisal says Y.
My God, this? Is there ANY topic you idiots aren't completely f'n devoid of logic and common sense on?
Here's a solution, get that dumbass out of office so companies can start expanding. Making this nation business-friendly, and making it more of an employEE market, is what increases wages. Not the other way around. Right now we're an employER's market due mainly to a Democratic Congress under Bush, Bush going fiscal liberal, and, for the most part, that jackass you fools elected.
-
Stupid DUmpmonkeys. :banghead:
If they paid you what you were worth, they'd send you an invoice.
-
I look at it this way--every two weeks the company and I are square.
Oh, and DUmmies? I'm paid roughly double what I made in 2001. Not counting inflation or however you put it. And because I left blue state hell and live in a state that doesn't confiscate my earnings in the form of 1-state taxes, 2-unemployment insurance, 3-workmans compensation (all paid by me when I lived in CA), and live in a state where housing, while still expensive, is nowhere near the "holyshitohmy****inggodyouvegottobekiddingmehowmuch" levels of my previous locale, it goes that much further.
Suck it, bitches.

Geezus F'n CHRIST! How f'n hard is this to understand. IF they can hire someone for X then that is what your job is WORTH. You have hit on the answer to the question and somehow you CAN NOT UNDERSTAND what you posted!
What would make you worth MORE than the next person who could fill the slot?! They have a job that requires X to be done. But because you can do X and Y you think they should pay you more? Nope. They will hire you for the $$$ offered. Now if a job opens that requires X AND Y then you can damn sure bet they are going to look to you first. But the job requiring X only is only going to pay what X is worth.
God. These people are absolute morons.

I'm worth $28,462.58 per hour...I'll drop the 58 cents for the right job with the right company. [DUMMIE/mode]

From what i have observed, no DUmmy is worth the current minimum wage.

That's probably not far from the truth, considering you MIGHT get two solid hours of work from a DUmmy per year.

Anybody should be so fortunate to have a job these days. I consider myself damn lucky to be at my current job. A job I love, and with great people to work with....
Yeah , I realize people ditch Walmart left and right, but you know I have a job, stocks, 401k, 3 weeks vacation, health, dental, and life.
Employers want people who are going to stand by the company for the long haul. That means going in with a positive attitude and work the job to the best of one's ability. How flippin hard is that??
Besides doing that, I am starting my own business, it is taking a little longer than hoped, but I will forge on till I get there.

Any job is worth giving your best for. Some of us forget that at times. Good luck with your start up venture.

DUmmies, if you think you are worth more than you are paid, then go to your boss and tell them that you are leaving. If they think you are really worth as much as you think you are, they will offer you something to encourage you to stay. If they think they can find somebody who can do your job equally well for the same pay, well then, see ya!
When I gave my notice at my job to go back to school full time, they checked several times to see if there was anything they could reasonably offer me to get me to stay. My boss told me on my last day that if nursing didn't work out I should contact her and she would find a way to get me hired back. I had a co-worker who quit once, and they thought she was so valuable that they asked her to take a 6 week leave of absence instead, then they transferred her to a new team to make her happier with her job.
-
In a free society everyone is paid precisely what they are worth.
The employer offers an amount, and the employee agrees. That establishes worth.
The only exception is union labor, where a wage rate is extorted by threat of damage to the company.
In a union, the vast majority are paid more than they're worth, and a few hard workers are paid much less than they're worth.
-
I make far more than I did in 2000 - but that's only because I'm willing to do work that I'm capable of, vs what I would like to do. So does the missus.
-
DUmmies, if you think you are worth more than you are paid, then go to your boss and tell them that you are leaving.
I did that once. My second in charge said, "Oh, cool, I have these other guys' resumes I've been hanging on to that'll work for 15K less than what we're paying you, and they're fresh out of the military. Good deal!". ...of course, she knew I was joking as I'm the jokester in the company. I told her once I needed a 50K bonus or I'd have no other choice than to resign and that there was a boat I needed to purchase that would help my morale and make me a better worker, hence the 50K bonus. :-)
I once submitted my 2-week notice to my section sergeant when I was in the military. He didn't accept it. :lmao:
These people are idiots. The shit they think and feel is viewed as nothing but a joke to anyone with any common sense.
-
Well let me ask the DUmmie lurkers this? Just how much pay is it worth to be damn near shot at twice by our so called allies( The Italians and the South Koreans) and once by some nut job that thought it was a cool idea to pump 3 rounds of 9mm into the back of some guys head just because earlier in the day he got into a fight with his daughter? I can tell you that neither job pays enough. Most of my employed life either with the Army or with the company I work for now could possibly pay enough to put up with shit like that yet it is what it is and I choose to be there . Someone has to because your candy asses are not going to step up and do it.
I have also nearly died In helicopter crash and and that was no amount of fun either. While riding in the back of an UH-1H Huey over the desert at Ft Irwin a black crow flew right into the windshield as we were flying above the sand dunes and if not for the pilot grabbing the stick from the co pilot at the time we would have been stuffed right into the sand. So as it goes there is no amount of pay they can give you to cover all that and there are others here and on duty that have seen allot more then I have. Not that any of you clowns ove r at the DUmp have a clue about the true value of something.

Seen how Temps are treated, minimun wage and the shi**est jobs in the place. [14].

Again, you are wrong.
I've done temp work and always make more than minimum wage and they are NOT shitty jobs. Have you seen the type of jobs offered by temp agencies lately? I actually prefer to use a temp agency to find a job because they are able to place you with something you enjoy doing. Even if the job is just a 90 day assignment or temp-to-hire, it's a great way to try something new and up your skills.

I've listened to people bitch about what someone else has made all my life. But when I say, "You had the same chance he did, why didn't you do it?" You know the answer...or more like, the excuses I got. I got married, well he did too. I had 3 kids, well he did too. I didn't have any money, well he didn't either and on and on it goes.

Many of the office workers at my company started out as temps. The majority of the shop people are hired on recommendations from friends.

Why am I reminded of Stella Blue? I believe she quit her new job after only a few hours due to the fluorescent lighting or some such thing.

OH! ...and there was one fellow that grumbled all the time. I shut him up for a few minutes one time when he was fussing about what he got paid and how well off his boss was. I remind him that his father in law had given him a house when he got married. His boss rented until he saved enough to get a loan to build. I reminded him that while he was spending his weekends at the river drinking beer and skiing his boss was working, not drinking and saving his money to start a business. And when he went to work for his boss and the boss had asked him to work a 1/2 day on Saturdays, he didn't. His boss worked all day Saturday and some of Sunday most times. He spent every extra dime he had partying and having a good time, his boss invested any extra he had. So at 50+ his boss owned a pretty good company, several employees, started to relax a little, enjoy life, had a nice boat and a place at the river AND the beach. The boss could afford to send his kids to a nice college, took them on trips to Europe and other places often. When grumpy complained about not being able to do the same for his kids and not having a chance, I reminded him that while his boss was building his little empire, he had been out drinking, partying and spending his chance.
It's hell when you get old and there are people just as old as you around to remind you of your mistakes.
