APNewsBreak: Obama seeks debt collector proposal
Source: AP-Excite
By DAVID ESPO
WASHINGTON (AP) - To the dismay of consumer groups and the discomfort of Democrats, President Barack Obama wants Congress to make it easier for private debt collectors to call the cellphones of consumers delinquent on student loans and other billions owed the federal government.
The change "is expected to provide substantial increases in collections, particularly as an increasing share of households no longer have landlines and rely instead on cellphones," the administration wrote recently. The little-noticed recommendation would apply only to cases in which money is owed the government, and is tucked into the mammoth $3 trillion deficit-reduction plan the president submitted to Congress.
Despite the claim, the administration has not yet developed an estimate of how much the government would collect, and critics reject the logic behind the recommendation.
"Enabling robo-calls (to cellphones) is just going to lead to more harassment and abuse, and it's not going to help the government collect more money," said Lauren Saunders of the Boston-based National Consumer Law Center. "People aren't paying their student loans because they can't find a job."

Well, I'm glad we saved it. Rush touched on this a bit at 12:45. "I wonder who's going to break it to these kids on Wall Street?"
He then read a list of their demands, available at OccupyWallStreet dot org. Hilarious, incredible, and so stupid. Free everything all around. Forgive all debt immediately, from all sources, worldwide. What insipid mush is between these idiots' ears? I'm ashamed to have to call them Americans, actually.
The thread is pretty funny. They're all distraught because they thought everything was going to be FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Wow, DU is full of rage at the black president. They must be racists.

I'm not in arrears on any debts, so I can't say I feel any sympathy. All the lowlifes and Dems (But I repeat myself) undoubtedly have unlimited calling/unlimited texting anyway (First things first, can't sacrifice access to your homeys just to to keep those old student loans up to date, now). The obsolescent rationale for restricting incoming cell phone calls goes back to when everyonone still had a landline as their primary number and the limited calling plans available meant incoming cell calls each racked up a buck on the cell bill.

If only the DUchebags had gotten their Skittle Shitting Unicorn before the tragic stable fire.

Add to that Laptops, Flat Screen TV's, Cable, I could go on!

Meh, If I don't recognize the number coming in, I don't answer the phone. If the name comes up blocked or private, I don't answer.

The DUmmy Occupy Wall Street list is so funny ! As if. :lmao:
My phone only rings three times before the outside answering service picks up. Since the darn thing blinks constantly, I rarely check it. I figure if it's important, they'll call back. If I hear it ring and I'm close to the phone, I pick it up. The screen is small and I can't read the number flashing so I don't know who it is usually.
If I don't want to talk to a stranger, I say hold on, I have another call and hang up. :rotf:
