This is where we could all be headed

I went to Wal Mart today to pick up some things(I live in a rural area and Wal Mart is the only place within a few dozen miles where I can get certain items, shoot me). Now I've seen greeters at the door using walkers to prop themselves up, and thought that was rather sad. But today took the cake, the greeter was an elderly man, well into his seventies, seated in his scooter/wheelchair, and he was on OXYGEN.

This is where we are headed, the elderly unable to retire, forced to work despite their disabilities and medical conditions. This is what this bipartisan attack on Social Security and Medicare is going to result in. Old folks, unable to afford to retire, forced to work on and on.

Sad, it was just sad.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe he wants to do the greeter gig instead of sitting at home and watching Oprah on the tee vee?

1. Two sides to this - glad Wal Mart is willing to give him a job, maybe the man wanted to work?

4. my dad is 70+ and loves to work

he has a cushy little job that pays OK and let's him play golf for free...perfect job for him. he gets bored sitting around the house. and to be honest, it gives him something to look forward to and feel obligated to...so he is probably taking a little better care of himself than he otherwise might.

Your dad isn't a DUmmy for sure.

27. I was laid off my job in 2010. I was 70 at the time.

It was not because of my age because three others who were a lot younger than me were also laid off including my boss. I would still be working now if I could find a company to hire me. But I would not want to be a WalMart greeter at minimum wage.

5. An elderly man, unable to walk, on oxygen, shouldn't be working

He is causing himself harm, and could cause a major problem for others.

And do you honestly think that if you were in his shoes that you would still want to be working? I know I wouldn't to be.

Hell you are probably healthy and don't wanna work.

11. Key word, "active".

This man can't walk, and is on oxygen. I don't consider that "active".

Dang you may as well be digging his grave for him.  :whatever:

I guess that's the difference between us and them, they see a disabled person working and get all sad, we see a disabled person working and think that person must have character.

One thing I have noticed in life is, those who are truly disabled seem to want to work and do, those who are perfectly capable of doing something apply for disability. I'm not saying that everyone on disability is that way, but it seems like the majority are.

They always have to give an excuse why they went to Wal-mart.

I've noticed that and it just cracks me up.

But, good for the fellow working.  What he's doing will keep him healthier than what most of the DUmmies suggest.

I know that is crazy. If y'all don't like where I shop y'all can just kiss off.  :-)

To Wally World?  I doubt it, but I like to shop there when I can.  It saves me money and I pass it every day on the way home.

How dare that old person cheat the death panel, and try to lead a somewhat independent life.

You!  Old man!  Lay down and die!

I am certain this gentleman is working that job because he wants to, not because he needs to. Some people enjoy interacting with other people.

When I retire, I will find a Walmart or reasonable Walmart facsimile to while away my retired years.

I spent a little bit of time on a bench at a local Walmart a few weeks back while waiting on my wife and sister to shop, and was entertained to no end by the walks of life I saw ingressing and egressing the store.  Those door greeters have it made, if they like to watch and study people.

Yeah, yeah, he should definitely be at home, sitting in his comfy chair, waiting for Robert Redford to show up and take him to the afterworld.

I like Walmarts.  That's how they say it here.   :-)

My son and I went at midnight last night.  Nobody was in there.  I was amazed.  I don't usually do that, go late at night but we did last night.

What a pleasant experience.  Tomorrow is the last day of the month so every shelf was stocked.

The greeter at the Walmart during the day is a little old lady that sits in a chair.  You have to bring your ticket to her.  She's very personable. She seems to enjoy her job.  She's always happy.

I find it hard to believe Walmart is forcing an elderly man in poor health to greet people.

DUmmies lie and hate Walmart.

Well, ladies and gents, we just got a glimpse into Don, the grouchy old primitive, the NNNHLOI primitive's future, as he tries to save his home from the Chicago property-tax machine.

I recall many years ago the DUchebags complained that senior citizens were being discriminated in getting a job.  I pointed out that Walmart is the #1 place that employs seniors.  So listen to what they say now.

:facepalm2:

That they have to justify going to Wal-Mart to the other DUmbasses should tell you all you need to know about the groupthink mentality at the DUmp. They must conform over there lest they be ostracized. Here, it's "yeah, I shop at Wal-Mart. If you don't like it, kindly **** off as I do not care". There its, "I had to shop at Wal-Mart, but PLEASE don't hold it against me; I had no other choice! For serial!"

Pathetic.

One of two reasons causes this man to work (with the assumption that the guy is even old enough to get SS):

1) He ended up in life with too much debt so that his social security checks don't pay the bills, or
2) He just wants to work and be out around other people.

It's not like anyone other than Obama has threatened to cut off people currently receiving SS.  This DUmb bastard can't even get the facts straight.

So did the DUer card the guy to know he was in his 70's?  Some folks that smoke and drink in excess look to be in their 70's well before social security kicks in.  Especially if the guy was already on oxygen.
