Since Freeper here has Yahoo! messenger, I decided to emulate his example, as Freeper's always a good example to follow.
So I downloaded it; it's here, in this computer.
But I have yet opened an account (screen name and all that), and can't found out how to do that. Every time, I get the site that asks me if I want to download it. It's downloaded.
What next? What did I do wrong?
I had Yahoo! messenger a very long time ago, back in the Dark Ages, but gave it up because it was too distracting from other stuff I was trying to do. But this time around, I think if I limit it to conservativecave members only, it should be okay.
But damn it, it's in place, but I dunno how to get registered.

I think you have to open a Yahoo! account. If it involves setting up an email address as well, I use my Yahoo email for junk and mailing lists (I go in every day and clear it out).

Okay, so I have to have a whole Yahoo! account.
I can do that, although only reluctantly.
-
Well, damn it.
I signed up for a yahoo! account.
But I can't get this messenger thing to work.
-
Okay, I got it, and it's up and running, apparently okay.
I don't think it took Freeper this long to do this, when he put his in.
Okay, what next? How do I advertise myself?
-
New question.
Near the top of the screen is the yahoo! tool-bar.
I don't want it.
How do I get rid of?
Man, I'll bet Freeper had none of these problems.

You have to delete the toolbar from the windows control panel and uninstall it, I think.

Okay, I got rid of the yahoo! tool-bar.
It all looks natural again now.

I've never used any of the messaging services and have no intention of doing so.
And I also HATE that damned Yahoo tool bar.

Yeah, it can be a nuisance; that's why I quit using it circa 2004.
But this time around, I thought I'd try it again, limiting my exposure to members of conservativecave only.

I have a Yahoo account myself and use a program called Digsby to actually use it. I can't stand the stock Yahoo Messenger program. And since I am a geek and also have a Google Talk, MSN, AIM, Facebook... I can log into them all using Digsby.
If I were just to use one, I would use Google Talk, its very light weight and you already have it if you use Gmail.
Anyway, did you get it working? I am and IT geek by profession.

Yeah, it's working.
I baptized it by sending my first message to Freeper, who's not available right now, but I image he'll see it sooner or later.
This thing has "Digsby," but I have no idea what it means.

I've had Y!M for years, but have yet to install it onto my new computer. I rarely use it because nobody uses it to chat anymore. Everyone always chats to me on Facebook. But I prefer the Yahoo Messenger.

I have a gmail account that I rarely use, only opened it because I needed a different email to post as a mod here...but since I can't remember how to get into CC on my mod account ( :thatsright: ) I just post as I always do. :-)
Probably need to go in and do some deleting since I can't remember the last time I signed into gmail. ::)

I use YIM (via Empathy Messaging on ubunto). I switched to YIM after the MSN (Windows Live) application started to get out of control.
Used to have an ICQ account before that.
YIM integrates fairly well with at least the MSN network, I have about the same number of contacts on each network and only have minimal problems with MSN contacts.
