I seem to remember a lot of talk about how a part of the VRWC was to suspend the elections - I think that it is a little ironic that the first such suggestion comes from a dem gov...

WTF: Democratic Governor of NC, Bev Perdue, suggest suspending 2012 congressional elections.
Speaking to a Cary Rotary Club today, N.C. Gov. Bev Perdue suggested suspending Congressional elections for two years so that Congress can focus on economic recovery and not the next election.
"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that," Perdue said. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."
The comment -- which came during a discussion of the economy -- perked more than a few ears. It's unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious -- but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea. (Read her full remarks below.)
Later Tuesday afternoon, Perdue's office clarified the remarks: "Come on," said spokeswoman Chris Mackey in a statement. "Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of what’s best for the people they serve."
SNIP
I used to lurk here from time to time and I remember from before 2008 there were frequent threads predicting that Bush would suspend the coming election. Of course that didn't happen. Now we get one of our own making the same suggestion the coming elections be suspended. I don't care if it was a joke, that isn't something to joke about. She is going to see that sound bite on TV a lot in 2012.

Unfortunately, you are probably right.
For politicians without real ideas continually endeavor to transform meaningless minutia into meaningful matters.

5. Republican NC leader Stam: "David can obfuscate more than anybody I know."
The GOP left the mike on during one of their strategy sessions and talked about how to purposefully mislead the public.
It got less press in a week than this is getting in one evening.
Bev was clearly joking. Everyone knew and knows she was joking.
But the GOP here are desperate. They are trying to set our state back 100 years and they'll take anything she does out of context to further brainwash their constituents.
no, the NC GOP is trying to return to sanity...

Somewhat like screaming "RACIST" every time someone disagrees with your socialistic attempt to destroy the country?

Maybe, but stevenumbers would jump her in a split second.

How the hell do they play it off as joking when she says, "I really hope that someone can agree with me on that."?
Oh, that's right, she's a Dem. The MSM can't have a Dem in a negative light.
-
And we are told that the MSM is not liberal...
From the comments on the N&O article:
Was N&O pressured to say bev's statement was just a joke?

Any particular reason that the N&O changed the heading from "Perdue suggests suspending Congressional elections for two years - was she serious?" to "Perdue jokes about suspending Congressional elections for two years?"
In your article you mentioned that her tone was level and that she asked for support. Clearly, you felt that it was not hyperbole. Then why the change?
I am actually pretty suprised about the comments on the N&O article - most have a conservative tone. I would not have expected this from the Triangle region of NC...

Trial balloon for "suspend the presidential elections."
Remember these people are huge projectors and all they talked about was GWB not leaving office if barack won.
-
Bev was clearly joking. Everyone knew and knows she was joking.
Um yeah. Joking... Just like how john f'ing kerry was "joking" when he insulted our Military by making that comment (http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/john_kerry_get_an_education_or_get_stuck_in_iraq/) in 2006 about getting an education or getting stuck in Iraq.
These ****ing DUmocrats are a laugh a minute.
-
They know they are going to lose Congress so bad in 2012. This is the desperation showing. It may be a long time before the Dems have majority power again.

Unfortunately, I think that you are onto something. The military, I think, would be split between those who felt that their oath to the Constitution would override obedience to orders given from above, and attempt to stop the suspension; and those who would simply be "following orders." There's a third element in this, those that would sit on their hands and see which side was winning.
Also, DPUG is onto something--they know that they're going to lose big in 2012. The 2012 election is the Republicans' to lose right now.

You don't think this has anything to do with twice as many Democrat senators up for re-election this time around, do you?
Nah, couldn't be.

And 2014 . . .

This up on DRUDGE: New audio: NC governor struck serious tone on suspending congressional elections

Regressives would love nothing more than to suspend elections when they have some power left.

Along the very same lines, Peter Orszag of The New Republic ran this piece (of crap):
"Too Much of a Good Thing
Why we need less democracy."
So what to do? To solve the serious problems facing our country, we need to minimize the harm from legislative inertia by relying more on automatic policies and depoliticized commissions for certain policy decisions. In other words, radical as it sounds, we need to counter the gridlock of our political institutions by making them a bit less democratic.
emphasis added
Actually, Peter, my solution is much simpler than wrangling over who would select the "committees" and design the "automated governing policies". We're at an impasse, ideologically. Let's just call it a good run and go our separate ways.

The idea is going mainstream democrat. It might be a bumpy ride...
-
Might we run into an instance where Obama , with the collusion of the DemonRats in congress declares martial law, with the result of the USSC declaring the congress and the presidency dissolved? :tinfoil2:

I suspect it's always been something they always secretely hope happens, just so long as it's a (D) that siezes power.

When I see these types of trial balloons going up, I go buy lots of ammo. This time I think I'll get that wheel gun I have been looking at. Don't think the commies don't look at that. Huge bumps in gun and ammo sales says more than anything to the would be tyrants.

A few years back in Milwaukee county a bunch of county executives were under the threat of being recalled. One of the members (a lib) was in such a panic she wanted the Sheriff at the time to impose martial law to prevent the recalls.
I do not remember the WI press making a big deal out of that or the lefties but they (the left) were convinced Walker was going to call out the guard to suppress the protests in Madison earlier this year.

She is going to see that sound bite bite her on the ass a lot in 2012.
Funny how the Rats show their true colors when they know the ship has sunk.

Damn, I didn't know there were enough socialist professors in NC to elect someone that stupid.
