Title: OMG! I am about to scream!

The program is not available for recipients of food stamps, which is the regular Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Eligible food stamp clients are already receiving disaster aid under another program and do not need to apply in person.

Despite that, many of the people waiting in line Monday, including Taushanin Valle, were regular food stamp recipients. Valle, a waitress who recently moved to Manchester, said she was away from her Hartford apartment during the tropical storm, and had left her windows open. Carpets and clothing was damaged and the food in her refrigerator spoiled after her building lost power.

At 10 a.m. Valle said she had been on line for about two hours. Valle said she had heard that the program is not for food stamp clients, but she said a friend on food stamps had received $375. She shrugged her shoulders and said, "We'll see….I'm still going to give it a try."

Shantae Ortiz, 32, a food stamp recipient, got to the front of the line only to be told that she did not need to have stood in line. "It's only for people who don't receive food stamps," Ortiz, a single mother, began telling others.

"This is for the people who don't receive food stamps. If you already get them, you will see the relief on your benefits card," Ortiz said.

How is this even allowable?   :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:

After the bad storms down here in the spring, food stamps were available for people who were not food stamp recepients too.

They were only for people who had lost all their food (refrigerated and freezers) due to loss of power for several days, and did not have the funds to replace. The way I understood it, if they have insurance, they have to reimburse FEMA/food stamp providers.

Yeh, that is what the story says also, but these losers still think they deserve the free money even though they are on food stamps

I live near a state hand-out center and this morning the line was thousands deep. Our town didn't even get hit hard, but because somebody's givin' something away - CT is doomed, please just right us off.

So If you are getting free food already you just get extra because of a storm even if you weren't affected? WTF is wrong with that picture? Whose fault is this really? Its easy to get lazy when there is no motivation. Hunger is a great motivator!

Another thing I notice in that photo is they all look like they could miss a few meals!

An entire society conditioned to be helpless and dependent.

Exactly.  And when the one's claw their way out of that scenerio/life they are called Uncle Tom's by their own for success.  It's infuriating.  To hell with them. :argh:

So by this picture, is it safe to draw the conclusion that only black people were affected by the recent tropical storm?

Yes. Didn't you hear about it? It was a selective and racist storm.

The storm only accentuated an underlying problem.

The real problem is that an entire society has been crippled and (re)enslaved and that slavery is persistent. It was there before the storm and it will continue for generations on into the future.

The comments are good.

Boy did this article back-fire on the Courant! Based on precedent, we have to assume the author wrote this piece - and the Courant published it - hoping for a huge out-pouring of sympathy and support for all the folks shown in the picture who are standing in line waiting for government assistance. Sort of a "Katrina Moment", if you will.

Instead, the subject of this story has now become a national poster-child for Middle Class' anger over an "Entitlement Society" that's gone mad.

Reading the comments, the overwhelming majority agree that this is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS!  And what is more, there is no shame or humility expressed by these people or their proponents that they should feel embarassed by holding their hand out to demand that taxpayers pay for the greed, stupidity, and yes, illegal demands by these people.

There simply is NO DEFENSE for this...

In this case "A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS" as a multitude of "FREE LOADERS" are simply trying to game the system.

Alcoholics call this a moment of clarity.  I have not heard of this phenomenon occuring with the affliction of Liberalism, but we might be on to something here.

I bet about 20 of those people actually deserved it. The rest are just freeloaders.

The weezing white guy with the cane are the type of people these programs are designed for. What is the excuse for those seemingly able-bodied young women? If you can stand in line to get free handouts, you can stand at a conveyor belt sorting boxes for UPS.

Yep, and if you're able to post at the DUmp all day, you can certainly do a desk job.

Anyway, those are just a sample.

I learned long ago on the farm that if you holler suuueeee weeeeee the pigs will come to the trough expecting to be fed. :-)...and most of those appear to have been to the trough many times.

ETA: I see one maybe two white faces in the crowd and a couple of the "poor" talking on their cell phones. Wonder if they are some of the government free phones?

ETA: Went to the linked site.....it's even worse than I thought.

"Dearborn said the number of applicants has built up over the past few days. Last Wednesday the first day, the agency had 451 applicants statewide. Thursday the number of applicants rose to 1,292 applicants and by Friday, the tally was 1,949. Applications end Tuesday."

So that's why they're on the cell phones...."Shonikanah, getz yo butt down here now. Day gibbon way free shit...don't axe no questions, jest get on down here."

the battle between the makers and the takers is coming in the 2012 election.  Vote for your liberty! Let's get people elected that will put an end to this abuse.

Self reliance! It's time for the freeloaders to give it a try!

There's like one guy over there, being a liberal sop.  "You people are so mean!  Mean meanies!  I hope you don't have kids!  How can you be so mean-spirited!  We have to help the unfortunate!  You're so mean!!!!"

People are ****ing pissed off.  They've had it up to here.

Ridiculous.

I think it would be fun to post messages online about free food/money at X spot and have all of these moochers show up.  Then just let them stand and wait in line.  We could start a pool how long they will stay there waiting.

As long as it takes. They have nothing to do, and it's free.

Hey, it's their job to go from place to place seeking all the free stuff they can get.

It pisses me off at Christmas time to see people that could buy things for their kids digging through the "Toys for Tots" pile or the free clothing for the poor kids. They got gold and jewels on, arrive in an SUV with chrome 22's.... :argh:

DUmmies like to talk about the greed of the rich people...look at your entitlement class of voters DUmmies.

Yep.  I would be insulted if I were of that group.  That is all that the dems/libs expect of them. They don't expect they could be better.

It amazes me that the "poor" people in America can afford those huge SUVs that cost damn near $100 to fill up the tank.  If we were so broke one Christmas, I'd just get my daughter one small toy and an outfit.  If that's all we could afford, then so be it.  We have too many Jones's in America.  I'm pretty sure Jones-ing (Keeping up with the Jones's... not trying to start a new Nadin-ism) is how we got into the housing mess.

After Hurricane Andrew passed, Louisiana was giving out food stamps to everybody and their sister. If you stood in line, you got them whether you needed them or not.  The line was a few miles long.  This was after electricity was restored.

Some companies put out the word, if you worked for that company and got those food stamps, it would mean an automatic termination if they found out.

I went to the store and saw people I knew that didn't need food stamps buying cakes and cookies and steaks with those food stamps.

They would try to hide how they were paying.  They weren't too shame to stand in line for them though.

It was disgusting to see.

Remember people.  These are the same types that will be sucking hind tit when the left finally causes this county to go under. They won't stand in line for food stamps, they will be trying to take it by force.

There will be a lot of dead bodies in the streets.

That unfortuneatly is the problem. After what happened in NO when Katrina hit there were p-lenty of people that felt they had the right to steal, even cops in uniform.
