What if Hermain Cain wins the GOP nomination?
He just won the Florida straw poll, and a lot of people are starting to support him. Unlike everyone else on the GOP ticket, Cain is a likable guy. He doesn't do the negative stuff the others do, and he is pretty clear on what he wants.
So what if he wins the GOP nomination? My former roommate, who is black, supports Obama, but always says he hates when Obama talks to black audiences. He says that Obama presents himself as "you know you will support me, so just got ahead and do it."
How well will this work against Herman Cain? A black man that was raised by black parents and experienced life much more similar to the majority of the black population than Obama. Not being black, I can't try and pretend that I know how they would feel.
Additionally, how would Cain be presented in the black community? Would they try to market him as a "real" black man because he had 2 black parents and experienced a childhood like other black people?
Any thoughts? I think it would create a pretty interesting debate.

Or did the teabaggers we've gotten to know suddenly see the light and reject their racism?
The Tea Party has never been about racism.

6. What if the sun doesn't rise tomorrow?
Cain won't win the nomination.
- Straw polls mean nothing. They're really just a beauty contest that gets won by the candidate who buses in the most supporters. Just ask Michele Bachmann, the winner of the Iowa straw poll.
- Cain has never held elected office. Such people don't win GOP or Democratic presidential nominations, only third party. And they always lose in the general election.
- He has being a "Tom" going for him, but 'baggers will never rally around a black guy.

7. not holding office might be his biggest advantage
Most people in America, and especially those on the right, are tired of career politicians. If you've seen even a few minutes of the GOP debates, you know how important having private sector experience is to the voters.
I think being able to say "I've taken charge of a bankrupt company and turned it completely around, I'm ready to turn a bankrupt country around" will be a huge benefit to him.
Obama is constantly criticized by Republicans for not experiencing "real life". Obama went to fancy private schools, then works as a community organizer before becoming a public sector leech. Cain is the anti-Obama in this sense.

10. Then my colon would be finally free of those flying monkeys Updated at 11:52 AM
The point about Herman Cain is not that he's a black man. He's a rich man who ran a very successful business and doesn't understand jack shit about how government works. I judge him by the content of his lack of character.
Better to have a man who doesn't understand how govt works than a man who doesn't understand business trying to fix the economy.

11. Then we have a shot at winning the south
since many GOPers won't vote for him no matter what. The money would also be cut short.
No person of color is going to be presented as a "real" anything while spouting conservative talking points.
It would be an Obama landslide IMO.
Keep telling yourself that lie and when Herman Cain is POTUS you will be in total shock.

I lurve Herman Cain. I bet he would shake up gov't and get it moving right. Obama is to gov't like cheese is to the colon. He bogs everything down.
-
I do not care if the president is Black, White, Asian, or Latino, I just want a successful man or woman in charge of the country that knows Business, that can smell a shylock 3 miles away.
I would support and send my nickles and dimes to a Cain/ Trump ticket in a heart beat. The world has changed, we have many statesmen to travel the world on our dime and keep things under control over seas. We need people that understand money, how to make it and benefit our country, not some slick, fast talking person interested in their own EGO and status as President.
We need a President that has in the past chosen wisely his advisers, over come bad decisions and learned from their mistakes to go on pick them selves up and do things different next time to come out on top.
America is now a country that must put defence as top priority, then Economics, we cannot stand as a nation if we allow any threats to our homeland be it illegal aliens or those from without that wish us harm.
We NEED a President that knows the bare knuckle fights for money all the dirty tricks others may try to pull, and if necessary pull a few dirty tricks on them in turn.
We need a President that takes their job seriously to protect our country and insure where every nickle and dime goes to to improve our society. This President will not be popular with the Politicos but the people will love him/her and in no way will be become bankrupt like Europe.
One must live with a budget, so must our government. Taxation based on consumption, those that pay no tax today will find a 10-20% tax on everything they buy and that includes the tax shelters of the rich that register their autos, boats and planes and buildings as a tax write off as business expense.
No more federal income tax, states may or may not tax as they wish. We pay taxes on SS benefits today, unemployment, and much more. Cut out that tax and tax what people actually consume.
Darn, I am city taxed for $1,250 bucks a year over the homeowners tax as we are a donor town to the schools in other County, was this not why the Lottery was voted in, to support small town schools.----Wonder where all that money is going when the schools don't seem to be getting one penny of it??????
We need some smart business people, accountants and the states to get involved in where our money is going and why we are so in debt.
The inheritance tax only effects the little guy, the wealthy have enough tax shelters to end up not paying anything at all. We little guys if we in hearate as much as a dollar have to pay a tax on that.
Rant over for now until I find other other examples to bitch about.
-
Just look at how they treat Allen West.
I remember when those racists in MD voted in a white guy over a black guy for senate a few years ago. But it was OK with them because Steele was a Republican. We all remember what the dim party did to him.

You are correct in a way, DUmmy. We don't vote for "blacks". We vote for CANDIDATES who best represent our views. Never have I stepped into a voting booth and gone, "I wonder what color skin this guy has?" If a person shares my values, I vote for them, regardless of skin tone.
DUmmies, OTOH, think race/sexuality/insert group here triumphs all else.

A lot will be determined by the SC GOP primary, since I think it is still the first one. I'm guessing any black conservatives will vote for Cain along with some whites. Some whites means a lot of whites unless there is a more conservative man on the list.
Wouldn't that be a hoot...the state that still flys the Stars and Bars on the state house grounds goes hog wild for a black presidential GOP candidate. That would show the liberals and the republicans that people want conservative government, not socialism.....well....scratch the liberals, they never learn.

He's getting some positive play even in the MSM...
Even though he's known as the "pizza" candidate for his years as head of Godfather's Pizza, his background is much broader than that. After he graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in mathematics and a minor in chemistry in 1968, Cain landed a job as a ballistics analyst for the Department of the Navy, where he was responsible for the calculations that ensured battleship rockets hit their targets.
"It's not an easy thing to do," he said.
Cain later completed a master's degree in computer science and entered the business world where he led several companies--most recently Godfather's--and chaired the National Restaurant Association and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. His résumé--from mathematician and rocket scientist to restaurateur and now politician--isn't exactly a typical one for a presidential candidate. But Cain said that while his presidential run may look unlikely from the outside, it's actually part of his larger career trajectory of seeking out new ways to test himself.

I tend to agree with you, but it's because so many non-business people have run for the office of president that we're not accustomed to hearing pizza franchise-esque marketing tactics in politics. It sounds like a Little Caesar's commercial. On the flip side, I can't readily recall any other plans that candidates have put forth.

That's true! I heard some other candidate on Hannity (can't even remember who), who was so fired up and going on and on about what needs to be done. I wanted to scream into the radio, WELL THAN...WHAT!??? Everyone is so quick to say what's wrong or needs to be changed but no one has outlined a clear plan. 9-9-9 may be a little cheesy (no pizza pun intended) but hey, it's something.

The other thing is that I'm not sure I support a national consumption tax while the income tax is still drawing breath. Because the next democrat run Congress will take 9-9-9 and make it 30-30-30. At least right now, there's no consumption tax for them to dole out favors with or to raise.
Imagine the absolute mess that would be created by adding a national consumption tax. Politicians would be able to lower income taxes while raising consumption taxes and you'd hear them blasting "we lowered your taxes". Imagine the carve-outs that will appear in the consumption tax once it filters its way through the cesspool of Congress. No taxes for this special interest item or that, consumption tax breaks for welfare recipients and illegal aliens. There's no limit to the amount of shit that can be piled on top of taxpayers once Herman Cain isn't signing the bills into law.
-
The only downside I see to Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan is that there is no mechanism to prevent a future Congress/Dept.of Treasury from running any of those 9% figures back up to something hideous. At some point, if Cain gets a chance at center seat, a repeal of the 16th amendment all together will be a discussion that it will be necessary to have.
-
He's on with Megyn Kelly now. :)
-
I don't like the 999, because if that were in place, NYers and Californians would then be paying close to 20% sales tax. Too freaking much. I agree, he needs to drop this idea, it ends up being too damn much tax, especially for those who face huge property taxes, and state & local taxes.
-

To an extent I agree......I like Cain's enthusiasm and commitment, however, I don't think for a minute that he's electable. His comments and lack of experience in foreign policy will kill his candidacy in a real debate on issues.......I once heard him state (in a TV interview), when asked a foreign policy question that "I'll figure that out when I am elected" That ain't gonna cut it in the troubled world we live in. Realistically his level of experience in foreign affairs is exactly equal to Obama's. (zero).....we know where that's gotten us.
As a practical matter foreign affairs is the largest and most important part of a president's job.......leadership in that arena has ramifications throughout the remainder of the job description. Cain, (at least now) has nothing to offer in that vital area.
Further, his 9-9-9 program might sound good, but below the surface it's just naive to think that such a plan could be passed into law without a constitutional amendment to protect us from future administrations/congresses. It's just not practical politically.

Why not? Nancy Pelosi doesn't know what is in the bills she votes for until they pass, and Henry "Porky" Waxman can't even hold an intelligent conversation on C-SPAN about bills that he CO-SPONSORS. But I agree, he should have positions by this stage of the game.

If Mr. Cain wins the GOP nomination it'll throw black America into a tail spin. He's not the kind of brother who gives out free bling to get voters to the polls, so that might cost him.
Honestly, I hadn't paid a lot of attention to Cain until lately. I'm damn glad I'm beginning to learn more. For me his varied background and business experience is a huge plus. Having a business head he's smart enough to know when he's not smart enough and will seek out the brightest as advisers. I'm becoming more enthused about him.

President hell, it should be unacceptable for what they've done as members of Congress, especially Waxman, sponsoring a bill - putting his name on it - without being able to tell reporters or his fellow Congressmen what's in the bill. In first grade, you get 0's for not being able to answer any questions.

9-9-9 is only a predecessor to the Fair Tax. I like the plan.

I think they way the Fair Tax folks have been marketing the Fair Tax is abysmal. If you want a 30% sales tax, just @#%!ing say it. Don't do funny sales tax math and advertise it at 23%. That stinks. Nobody in the US calculates sales tax the way the Fair Tax folks do, and I'm sure they're misleading people who aren't very good at math.

I would like to see a line item comparison of Barry Sorrento vs Herman Cain.
But I am just too lazy to put it together at the moment. I suspect Barry would come out looking a lot like a spoon fed liberal pretender on the order of the Very French Kerry (who served in VietNam) or AlGore (who also served in VietNam albiet with a security detail provided by his daddy). Neither were noted scholars who would have probably also had to go to Occidental were it not for legacy connections.
In the book department I believe Cain leads 4 to 2. :whistling:
In the get out of yer bunny slippers and do someting category, Barry would at least have an overpriced Gazebo that he built while a community organizer. :rotf:

We desperately need someone to come in and take control of the economy and turn it around. I think Herman Cain can do that.
As far as foreign policy is concerned....it CAN be learned. And picking a VP who does have some foreign policy experience is easily done. Cain already knows how to negotiate as he's done it in business for years, all he needs to learn is background history on the players and the proper ways of protocol....most of which I bet he already knows yet is not willing to toot his own horn nor open up to reporters as to how he has learned.
He is pro-defense and military. Has worked for the military, and though he has not been in the military itself, he at least understands some of the complexities involved.
He would be the FIRST BLACK man elected to President of the United States. And I, a white woman living in the South, would happily vote for him. Me voting for him has nothing to do with the color of his skin, you stupid lurking DUmmies, it has to do with his capabilities to be the leader of our country.
Obama may have a whole lot of melanin in his skin to make him APPEAR to be a black man, but the man is just as much WHITE as he is black. So the fact that I didn't vote for him does not make me a racist, it just means I didn't think he was capable of the job of being President of the United States. His last 2.5 years in office has proven that he wasn't ever capable.
Intelligent people vote for a candidate based on their capabilities, their integrity, and their positions on issues important to the voter, not on their attractiveness or body shape or gender or sexual orientation or choice of religion. And they sure as hell don't base their decision on the color of the candidate's skin.

We desperately need someone to come in and take control of the economy and turn it around. I think Herman Cain can do that.
Deb, I love absolutely everything you wrote in your post with the exception of this one sentence. What we really need, at least in my opinion, is someone to help guide the undoing of 80 years' worth of "taking control of the economy." If you were to just unleash Americans--within some parameters, of course--we'd have the economy turned compeletly around in less than a year.
Nobody can build, drill, or find energy because of draconian EPA regulations. Nobody wants to loan money because of some stupid banking regulations. Nobody can hire because of moronic tax/healthcare policies. Loosen some of those up, and it's "Morning in America" all over again.
I wish one or two republican candidates would mention this.

Not to mention allowing business to fail vice bailing them out.

You are right, Splash, and I simplified it too much by my sentence.
Cain understands what is needed to be done to turn a dying business into a thriving one, as he has done it. Granted it was with a really good product, that most people buy on a fairly regular basis. But he understands the way, process, mechanics, whatever word you want to use, in order to bring about results.
America is a "good product" that has been lost by years of career politicians who got an English, History, Poli Sci undergrad degree and went on to law school. They have nothing but ideaLs and ideas on what a "perfect" world should be like. They have no concept of how a "real" world works or what it takes to make that world function properly.
This country needs someone with the capability to know HOW to make the changes and what it will take to implement those changes. I think Cain is the best one - at least so far - that is capable of doing that.
I heard Cain say on one of the news talk shows a couple of months ago - "We need to do 3 things - pay our debt, pay and provide for our military/national security/defense, and pay our social security/Medicare/Medicaid. Everything else comes AFTER those are paid first." (I paraphrased because I can't remember the question, but I did post it right after I heard him, but can't remember which thread)
To me, he has his priorities straight.
Now he just needs a running mate that compliments his strengths and shores up his weaknesses, AND a Congress made up of people of like minds. Since the Congress part won't happen, we're probaby screwed no matter who gets elected. It will just be a question of which presidential candidate will prevent us from going into the abyss sooner rather than later.

Because it's NOT a 30% tax. Perhaps you should read the book. No sense for me to explain it to you as you've already made up your mind, with absolutely NO facts to back it up.

I want that bumper sticker!
You know I haven't printed that out yet. Maybe I will give it a try later to see how it looks. Right now I need to clean some windows while the weather is so perfect.

Barry would at least have an overpriced Gazebo that he built while a community organizer.
Don't forget, we also have a photo of him hanging curtains.

I am beginning to really like Cain. Maybe pair him with Bachman? How do you think that would work out? Of course I can see the Obama camp's response: Put O'biden in a dress. I am guessing he could do an awesome Uncle Milty. :fuelfire:

Like my pink siggy says "any Republican" unless it's Ron Paul LOL. I don't give a hoot who else is on the top of the ticket, but I do think we need Rubio as the VP candidate.

Cain/Rubio would be awesome.

I could agree to that. Looks like he has as much experience as Obie had and heaven knows a rock has more brains than O'biden.
-
Then too, Obie won against Alan Keyes in 2004. And regardless of what one might think of Alan Keyes, he too has an impressive resume. Granted he entered the race late and skulduggery might have been involved. Suffice to say he was too black and too Republican.

He ran in VERY liberal Illinois in an era when Bush wasn't popular. This is nationwide and, sorry, Alan Keyes was WAY too focused on social issues for my liking. This next election will be on the economy. ...and this time, Obama has a record to "run" on. ....as does Cain.

You can't have Rubio yet, we want him in the senate for a couple of terms at least, before the rest of the country can have him. :-)

I love how they just state that the Tea Party and the GOP is racist like it's a simple fact. Despite. All. Evidence. To. The. Contrary!!!! :bird:
Well, you know, they are tolerant and open-minded, and all that....

Well my opinion is this. Herman Cain is better then Romney but Herman Cain is not a Politican. He isn't cut out to be President, he might be able to help balancing the budget but he doesn't have to be President to do that. I'm all for the idea that Poor men can become Presidents or Rich and own businesses no doubt about it. Herman Cain however isn't cut from the cloth of Presidents, he doesn't have the legal knowledge to fight Democrats. I like his stances and he definatly understands the Muslim threat. Time will tell how this plays out but im pretty sure the Republicans are gonna put up another RINO to get demolished by Obama. This is how you play two card Montey. just like they set Mclame up to lose they are gonna set another Repubic up to lose.

You know, there are these people the President hires called "advisors"
I truly think Cain would turn this country into a superpower again. All the while the libs and people that didn't believe in him will be whining.

I'm sick of politicians. I like Jersey's Gov. Christie because he's NOT a politician. I may disagree with him, but I respect him. McCain was a politician. Romney is a politican. Perry (who I prefer over Romney) is still a politican. Give me a real human being. Cain is my first choice in this race.
Can you explain what you mean by Cain isn't "cut from the cloth of Presidents"? He's a natural born citizen. He's over 35. He isn't a felon. Look at our history. Some of our great presidents weren't your typical politican. Time for the political class to retire. We need citizens to step up again.

I think that means only democratix party plantation negros are qualified. Obie is basically a reconstruction democratix president. He wears the clothes but the strings are pulled by the man behind the curtain. It is painfully apparent when the TPOUS fails and he flails away on his own.
