Any thoughts on vinyl or polypropylene replacement siding compared to cement siding, anyone?

I'm liking the cement because it's not an oil-based materiel.

Hail proof (not just resistant).

Fire retardant, especially compared to vinyl.

But, maybe the strongest push for me is because of a smaller carbon footprint, maybe??

Does anyone know anything about this stuff?

1. I would use cement board instead of vinyl

Manufacturing vinyl puts chlorine into the environment. Burning it releases toxins. Plasticizers like phthalates cause respiratory problems.

I would consider aluminum siding. It costs more, but it is ultimately recyclable. That's worth something!

Greenpeace organizes against vinyl.

2. Thanks! I didn't know about the chlorine & I will look into aluminum.

Now wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.

Cement in fact is oil-based.

It requires oil (gasoline or diesel) to transport cement.

I assume it requires oil (gasoline or diesel) to turn that thingamajig that churns the cement inside the truck.

So where is cement not oil-based?

Oh yeah...you got to cut/blast/crush/transport the rock at the quarry. Then their is the sand pit where you dig/wash/transport to concrete plant where it's mixed and then delivered....lot of oil :-)

DUmmie should go with aluminum siding....nothing would convert the DUmmie quicker than to see his house stripped bare of siding and knowing it was sold for pennies to buy dope/drugs.

No, he would demand more cops, legalized drugs, government run and subsidized drug re-hab programs, job programs for them as well, and higher taxes on the rich to pay for it all, so he won't have to.

That's why I have T1-11 siding on my house.  It's made of wood, so I get to kill trees.   :fuelfire:
