Title: Adjust your tastes. You WILL do it!

Agriculture Secretary: We Must “Adjust” Our Taste to Please the Government

When the amply-caboosed unofficial Diet Czar Michelle Obama barked ominously about restuarants’ duty to serve us less and worse-tasting food lest children get too chubby, corporate pansies characteristically scrambled to comply. Did they think that appeasement would keep the heavy fist of government from crashing down on their heads? If so, they’ve been proven wrong already:

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told members of the National Restaurant Association on Monday that Americans need to “adjust” their tastes so that they like the kind of food the government believes they should eat — and “we have to make sure that what we do is create the appropriate transition.”

“You know, as we deal with this issue of reducing sodium [better known as salt] and sugar, it sounds simple to do, but you all know better than I do, it’s not as simple as it sounds,” said Vilsack.

How do we know? The government tells us so (http://moonbattery.com/?p=2559)

Hey Tom, don't just wear the bear, stuff it up your ass.  I love salt, and using it a lot is what keeps my BP up INTO the normal range.  You and Moose-shell can stick your Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Essen thinking where the sun don't shine.

I agree DT, nobody should be telling us as adults to tell us what to eat. If the gubmint is so dang worried about our eating habits, maybe they should shutt off EBT cards to some folks!!!

Sea, I agree, if the government wants to crack down on food they should start with babyfood.

Salt, sugar, all kinds of additives that are there not for the baby but for the mother who taste tests it.

What ever happend to personal choice as an adult in what we wear, drink, eat, ?    If I don't mind getting fat that is my choice as long as it does not interfere with others rights to their own space, or demand accommodations to fit my size.

Some one sued a take out because the chairs in the eat in section were too small for their fat butt.  What next sue a travel tour group that is for Spelunkers because they cannot fit in the small caves????

There are standards for people of any size most anywere one goes even in their own homes.  Sue the landlord because you get so fat you cannot fit in the tub or shower stall ????

Skinny folks have their problems also.  A woman of 50+ years that weighs 90 pounds shopping for approbate clothing finds themselves trying to find clothing in their size that is not marketed for the 20 something, difficult.

I have had more good furniture destroyed as I had a skinny family and decorated around the home for us, not the 300 pound visitors that broke the chairs or slept on a futon and the darn thing collapsed in the middle of he night.

We have to adapt our behavior to the circumstances, if one does not smoke, don't go where others do.

If you wish to go to a rave, be prepared for pot smoke, cigarette smoke and perhaps being thrown in a mosh pit, drugs in the restrooms and total freaks knocking into you.

You have a 18 month old and take them into a Church for a wedding and the whole ceremony is deafend out by the child's cry, to a funeral same thing. Thousands of dollars are spent on both ceremoneys and any disruption is unexpected and unwelcome.

Take responsibility for your self and actions, know your limits, as to size, age, and health.  This is your responsibility not the governments.

For the government tells me so.
Little ones can come to me for they are weak and the Governmet strong.
Yes they do love me, yes they do love me,
The government tells me so.

When my oldest (now 26) was an infant we lived in Southern Italy.  Our Italian landlord's wife and daughters "nannied" him for his first two years.  One of the first solid foods they made for him looked & smelled delicious, it was a small orzo boiled in homemade vegetable stock.  One day I tasted it and gagged, it was so bland!  I wanted to add some salt or spices to it (I was a very naive parent) and his nannies about had a cow at the suggestion.  "I bambini non hanno bisogno di sale! Non essere uno sciocco!"  (trans:  babies don't need salt, fool!).   Lesson learned!

Of course I want to eat what he says I should!

How could anyone not respect such an esteemed and dignified statesman!

Up yours, all you government hacks, as I sit here and munch on salty almonds.

What's the story with that goofy photo?  Moonbattery put the same photo up, but with a hammer and sickle decal on Pooh's forehead.

This whole story is backfiring.  How stupid are they to not see handwriting on walls?

I have to be honest: I'm not sure about the story of the bear, it was many years ago and I do remember it being a major part of the Dummie Funnies.  The image, though, how could anyone forget that?

I think Vilsack wore that unfortunate super-hat at some event promoting literacy but I don't remember any of the details.

And I thougt I was the only one with this problem! Friends and doctors alike tell me how all that salt will raise my BP...no kidding? Maybe one day I will grow up and actually have to watch my salt intake, but so far, I just try to get somewhere around 100/60.

Salt will in fact raise your blood pressure, don't ingest it and how do you stop blood pressure from raising from stress,  the neighbor using a leaf blower at 6 AM. traffic congestion, calls from your mother with complaints about your wife.

Salt is the least thing responsible for blood pressure,  constant bombardment from noise , pressure at the job, pressure to preform as others expect one to.

Give me a break people have lived to be 100 years old eating salt, fats, and drinking and smoking and dancing the hootich coo.    These people lived with little stress, not so today.  The kids are stressed out, the parents stressed out, everyone around us is stressed to the max.

Just normal today living conditions, the constant noise, the problems that we cannot fix,the News of the Nation and normal problems that happen in family's. problems at work or at home.

Our diet has little to do with our health as long as we are stressed from living in to days world. So if one cannot releave their stress then I say eat lots of comfort food, hot rolls with melted butter, lots of salt pepper and heavy cream in gravys-------they call these comfort foods for a reason, a soy Berger with bean sprouts and tomatoes just does not have the same soul satisfying effect as chicken fried steak with white gravy.

It is not the diet that kills you it is the outside stress  combined with the diet.  Go away from the stress of life on this planet, live in a cave, a tent, buy an RV and travel the country, no radio or TV.    Eat what you can afford and don't worry, the food will not kill you as long as you don't eat the healthy vegetables and fruit that is killing people all over the country.     Can we ever get away from stress????
