A person is on MSNBC saying the American Dream is dead.

I was told by the mods I was free to re-post this from my locked thread. Seems to lose something in translation when you leave out the fact that "the person" was a wealthy white corporatist who happened to look like every cartoon of a fat old robber baron. Oops, can't say "fat" on DU. No one is offended by the gist of the post, just by the word "fat." Come on, DU. Really?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

Well, I'll bet the Systematic Chaos primitive and the subway cat weren't too pleased.

4. I am fat and I have no problem with your characterization of the cartoon. But there are lots of people here on DU who have a bias against fat people and they are downright mean & nasty when speaking of fat people. They also characterize every fat person as a lazy & slovenly pig-that I resent. Many fat people aren't like that at all!! I'm not offended by any part of the post.

6. I've been fat...my wife thinks I'm fat again

I lost 55 pounds several years back. Since then, I've gained 15 back, due to aging and not working out every day as I used to. Funny how my 195 is now considered "fat" by my wife. But I can't say "fat" on DU without people freaking out. What is wrong with us? Thanks for your post.

Whoa.

Pedro Picasso, who's franksolich's exact twin in reverse, outweighs franksolich by 21 pounds, even though franksolich is a couple of inches taller.

Too much affluence'll do that to one; make one fatter than one should be.

Pedro Picasso must've been elephantine at 250 pounds.  Damn.

7. So would the mod squad allow 'obese' as an adjective?

Texas Toast is headed for another locked thread if he keeps using language such as rotund, large & overweight.

It's because weight doesn't mean anything.  My 200 is probably slimmer than your 180.  As you've sat around collecting welfare, your muscles have atrophied and you've gained fat, all while "maintaining" your weight #.  Since fat is much less dense than muscle, you've no doubt gained some significant volume around the middle.

Actually, I was surprised, the first time I saw a photograph of my evil twin, a trust fund kiddie.

Pedro Picasso's the classic narcissist, allegedly one of the "beautiful people."

The pompous ass is very vain, to put it mildly.

One can't really determine height, but he looked to be about a couple of inches shorter than myself, say, 6'1" or 6' or thereabouts.  I thought maybe he looked a little bit stocky, but gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed I was just perceiving wrongly.

Apparently, and sadly, I wasn't.

His problem was he didn't use it as an adjective to describe one of the approved people like Rush Limbaugh.

Whoa.  A lot of "guests" viewing this thread almost immediately as it was posted here.

You know, now I'm greatly concerned about something.

If Pedro Picasso has 21 pounds on franksolich, that means that in a knock-out, drag-out brawl, franksolich is dead meat, even despite his superiority in altitude.

Twenty-one pounds can make a lot of difference; trust me, I know.

Been there, done that.

About the only advantage franksolich would have is his soccer legs and thighs, but that would mean fighting dirty, and franksolich refuses to fight dirty.

Coach, in a fight, I take the guidance of one (owner of the Oakland Raiders) Al Davis:

"Just win!"

Yes, but thanks to the discerning significant other, we know he's soft, and that 21 pounds is likely Dominos pizza and Cheetos stored around the midsection.

When discussing lardass DUmmies, one must now include the chinless 'Bama butterball, Li'l Ava.

She's easily in a class somewhere between UGP and the LVL.

I find it hard to believe Pedro has a wife. Is she comatose?

Apparently she has just enough awareness to know he's a lardass.

I believe she's in one of the allied medical professions--registered nurse, physical therapist, dental hygienist, something like that.

Since she's not on Skins's island, as with Pedro Picasso's sons, I keep her off this radar.

I think she must be in a much more lucrative medical profession.

They live well in the most expensive area of the country, and they sure as hell don't do it on Pedro's cartooning income.

A child in middle school could churn out blank speech bubbles, and ask no more than a few ITouch downloads in return.

I thought the ITouch was the Michael Jackson brand of the iPod. :-)

You forget, sir, Pedro Picasso's a trust fund kid.

I'm guessing, with some cause to find it credible, that his mother made a mint on Polaroid stock during the 1950s and 1960s, and of course good for her.  But my evil twin provides the best possible reason to tax inheritances 100%.

KittyWampus is going to go on the warpath.

It's bad enough that she placed an on line order from Layne Bryant and got inundated with catalogs from several fat people clothiers. She resents that the world knows she's fat.

My favorite DU fat topic is single seating on airlines. The stinky fat people get defensive about their right to encroach on their neighbors space.

Well what makes one "fat"?  is it actually fat under the skin?   :lmao:

I would rather be called fat than huge or obese.

I have always been of the thought process that if you didn't like something then change it.  If you don't like being noted as fat then lose some weight.   :whistling:

eta:  I CAN talk this way because I used to weigh 250lbs non pregnant.  I learned how not to stuff my face with Big Mac's and Coke.

I've never been sure myself, madam.

I'm altitudinally-oriented, not width-oriented.

In other words, I notice the height of an individual long before I notice the girth.

Sometimes I never get around to noticing the girth at all.

And then in perceiving people in real life, I discount some things.

If a woman's borne infants, for example, I substantially subtract from my perception of her weight, because bearing infants is hard, arduous work and sometimes it's not easy to recover from it.  So, for example, a woman might weigh 235 pounds, but if I've discerned that she's borne infants, my brain and my eyes see a 115 pound woman instead.

Or if I see a guy who weighs 400 pounds, but he's working away shoveling grain or something, my brain and my eyes see a 200 pound guy instead.

I dunno why I do this; I suspect it's because I'm trying to look at the soul of a person, rather than the body.

My descriptions of people in real life are usually in variance with descriptions of the same people by other people.  (Size only; other details such as hair, skin, eyes, male, female, approximate age, whatnot, there's agreement.  Size only.)
